Using the spiders.xml file if you don't have access to the htaccess?

I have some spiders (not the searchers) that I'd like to block as they have no benefit to my board. I was wondering if you could use the spiders.xml file to block them as well as list them...

Thanks.

robots.txt is what you need to do this.

Look it up on google - you will find all that you need :)

Hope that helps

The problem with robots.txt is that some bots totally ignore the file. If they do not access it then they continue to probe your site unfettered.

What I'd like to do is block one particular bot that has no use as far as I can tell it belongs to no search engine whatsoever.

If they ignore a robots.txt file they are rouge robots and short of password protecting the top folder (blocking everyone including Google) there is no much you can do IMO.

Be VERY careful using any type of cloacking as Google states in no uncertain terms NOT to cloack.
