Hi, all. I am not a programmer, just know basic webdesign. I just spend time searching for VB-to-Weblog modifications. My idea seems different from all others. (Please correct if wrong?)
Usual idea. Operate a standard design of interactive weblog, something like Wordpress, using Vbulletin software as a base.
My idea. A new design of weblog, basically achieved by pasting a Vbulletin subforum index (or preferably just its 'titles' list) into the bottom of a standard webpage.
The 'comments' at the bottom of each weblog post are actually a Vbulletin subforum list of thread titles.
The 'Title' input field is renamed 'Summary.' It is enlarged so it allows enough space to get a message across, but less space than most weblog 'comments' allow.
The 'Message' input field is renamed 'Optional Elaboration.'
Thus, the 'comments' are kept much more brief than in most weblogs. But, anyone can click to view a full-size 'elaboration.' Then can 'comment on the comment.' Because as soon as he clicks, he has really just entered a typical Vbulletin thread.
I.e., there is a VB subforum dedicated to each weblog post. The ability to interact within that subforum replaces the usual 'comments' listed at the bottom of most weblogs.
How to do this?
Quick-and-dirty method: on a standard .HTML webpage, use an I-frame to paste a Vbulletin subforum index at the bottom.
Ideal method: on a standard .PHP web page, use a PHP include call to paste only the 'Titles List' from the relevant subforum index.
For complete details please see my Wordpress.com weblog:
Forum plus weblog equals best weblog software. (http://krystofo.wordpress.com/2007/05/20/integrating-a-forum-plus-a-blog-equals-my-ideal-blog/)
My questions:
--Is there such a PHP include call for my 'ideal method' above? Or will this require a hack?
(Have not activated my Vbulletin for 2 years,
and as I say not a programmer, so excuse my ignorance.
Still waiting for a bit of time to get started.)
--Is there any merit to my idea? Or is it all hokey? Any alternative ideas, tips, suggestions? Thank you.
