I was thinking about making a sweepstakes for my forums in which we would give out a new video game every month... All you have to do is login within that month and click on the "Enter sweepstakes for June" button. (june , july, august, etc) and then your in...

There would also be a list of the last 10 winners on the home forum page. (a small column on the top right side)

I think this would be a great and popular mod if created. Because it is SURE to bring in alot more visitors to a site that is not as popular. and banner impressions would pay for the prizes.

If anyone knows of a simaler program or if one is currently being created, please let me know.

thanks

Sounds like a great idea. But I would suggest incorporating the need to POST in order to enter the sweepstakes. I don't need more lurkers, I need more content and discussions.

So you have to make some kind of post in order to have an entry go into the sweepstakes. You could even get fancier with it, like:

- only count posts in certain forums (avoid them posting garbage in "miscellaneous/off-topic forums")
- give an extra vote for every x number of posts up to a max for the day.
- etc...

Good suggestion. I didnt think that far into yet.

But yeah, im surprised this mod isnt out anywhere yet.

Initially I was googling for a company that offered sweepstakes for websites.. but now realize this would be much better if it was already incorporated in forum format as a plugin. Since the databases can be scanned for fradulant type registrations and stuff.

I guess it would be a plugin that would take awhile to make and think about. (rules and regulations for the sweepstakes aswell) But in the end, I really think it would work.
