I was just wondering if I have to hire someone, what is an average ballpark figure of what they charge?

Another thing, I've seen websites have something where a user can select something in their profile (like gender), and then a picture will automatically generate beside their name when they post because of that choice. Is that easy to do?

all depends on how much work you need done and what type of mods you require for your forum.

That (gender image in postbit) is very easy to do. :)

actually, Kall forgot to mention that the hack for gender already exists in the releases here...

and there is no average salary for coding... it all depend on each coder who evaluate their job's values... and even some would do the job for free if they think it worth it...

Thanks for pointing that out.

I wasn't just wanting to use the gender one, I wanted to use other options as well. Would that be pretty easy to figure out coding once I got the gender one?

If you have never installed a mod of any kind before, then most likely it wont be two easy. I skrewed up many a things in my early days trying to install a mod or two. But now ive gotten it down to an art. I can do it for you pretty inexspensive, if you would like to go that route. Just pm me if your interested.

I was just looking at this website christianforums
It has a lot of these modded features in it. How much would that cost?

ok, i think you did not understand here... nobody will tell you how it cost if you are not able to list the exact things you want...

vBulletin.org is not a place where you pay to have some job done... most of the time, the tools exists, you just have to take the time to learn how to install them... this is the main part here...

if you are far from being able to install a addon or a product, you can make a Service Request (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=30), hire someone for the job... there is the place where you will be able to ask for a quote related to a specific list of features to install on your site...

yeah, you are right Paul... so at least he/she wil lbe aware that we have such section where people can provide quotes on jobs requested... so when he/she comes back with a license, tada.. :)

It all depends on what you want to have done. If it's already a pre done mod it will come cheap but if you wish to have a custom mod that only you have it comes much more expensive. Most of the time you have to work with the dev as not everything you could want would have the same price.

Thanks Nexialis, but they are probably quite capable of reading the forum list and seeing that for themself.

If you want something like Christian Forums done for you, expect to pay thousands. Personally, I think that forum is modded terribly. Atheism FTW! :p

Anyway, if you must have your board modded, be sure to select a person with advanced PHP, XHTML, CSS, AJAX, and vB knowledge.
Also, I must give you important advice:
Do not do this unless you have serious money to through around.
If you can't do most modding yourself, you'll constantly need to pay others to maintain, upgrade, secure etc your board.

I am wanting to buy and use VB. However I am nervous about what has been said about needing serious money to make modifications. Is it not built into the interface for most needed modifications?
Just what are the modifications that will cost so much to have done?
I am getting freaked out now.
I want a forum that works well and is fast and simple to use. I don't want to be a programmer.

a lot of hacks are already available for free... hundreds i can say... most small modifications are free and are quickly installed even if you know nothing of vBulletin or coding...

when you come with specific requests of large tools, sure you can have to pay, but it goes with the job you require...

Oh goodness, don't let this thread be the deciding factor in whether you purchase vB or not. They're talking about extras.

Most other forum software you have to modify to death to get the same functionality that vBulletin comes with right out of the box. What they're talking about here is just extra bells 'n' whistles modifications. ;)

I agree, vbulletin is really easy to use and gives you alot of options that are built in that you have to mod on other forums to get. However, the best thing about vbulletin boards are that vbulletin.org supplies so many "extras" that can just be plugged in due the product manager by uploading 1 file and voila, you are practically done.

Anyways to get back on topic, Ill be a sheep and say what everyone else is saying. It depends on what you want to get done and how big of a task it is. With those factors in mind, that's when you should guesstimate how much YOU are willing to pay to get such a modification.

Christian forums just changed the template. There a few mods here that can make certain things on there appear the way they do.

Mostly those are just template edits. For vbulletin you can look around and get some templates. You can also hire someone to do a template for you, depending again it could run a few hundred dollars and up.
