I want to move a board from Dreamhost to NetFirms

The move needs to take all the posts and the members with it. Also i dont want any hacks to be moved. I would prefer to reinstall the hacks. The load on my server remains :

Server Load Averages 0.96 1.24 1.35 | 624 Users Online (92 members and 532 guests)

Could someone please help with a few answers like:

Is it possible?

Is it hard to do?

Whats the chances of screwing it up?

How to move it?

What if i want to keep my domain name as it is?

How to move the database?

Am i doing the right thing? [I am gettin lots of error msgs on Dreamhost - Mainly, 500 Server error/Site down]

And anything else that you may think that would be useful.

Many thanks in advance.

Is it possible? Yes, make a couple backups of your database and download them all

Is it hard to do? No

Whats the chances of screwing it up? Great if you've never done it before/aren't familiar with the process. Slim if you've got a semi-firm grasp on basic administration operations

How to move it? Backup DB from dreamhost multiple times to prevent getting a corrupt one. If you have attachments stored in file system you'll need to back those up as well and download. Then simply reupload vBulletin files onto new host, Upload new database, and have them restore it. Repload attachments if neccassary

What if i want to keep my domain name as it is? You'll need to simply change the name server information where ever you registered it.

How to move the database? if small, use PhpMyAdmin and just do a couple basic web dumps of it.

Am i doing the right thing? [I am gettin lots of error msgs on Dreamhost - Mainly, 500 Server error/Site down] Probably, if you can't fix the errors and dreamhost isn't much help to you.

Hmmmm... Thanks 4 ur advice...

Can someone tell me, which host is good for my forum, coz i am faicing few problems on the server, like i m getting warnings to remove all addons. Let me show you the mail from my server.

Hello,

I'm writing you about your database "db_forums". It is causing severe
server loads with the following query:

# User@Host: jaimesh546468897@*(&)()_(&*&%$%$@^&
# Query_time: 0 Lock_time: 0 Rows_sent: 14181 Rows_examined: 56658
SELECT thanks.*, post.userid as postuserid, user.username
FROM thanks as thanks
LEFT JOIN post as post ON (post.postid = thanks.postid)
LEFT JOIN user as user ON (user.userid = thanks.userid)
ORDER BY thanks.dateline DESC;

being ran many times a second, sometimes 20 or more of them running at
once. We can't allow one customer to interrupt service for all other
customers on a server, so I've had to disable the table for now. Please
disable whatever is running this query, or clear out lots of old data to
keep it from having to examine so many rows. If you have further
problems or questions on this issue, you can email me at
justin5@dreamhost.com.

Thanks!
Justin

Though we have resolved the issue, but still we dont want such troubles on other server. Our server load has been mentioned in the first post of this thread. So according to that. Can anyone please suggest me a better host. Also we dont wanna spend more $$$. :(

I agree with you now. I badly need a dedicated server now. Which according to you is the best one and reasonable too?

Can some one check this server for me. I mean is it worth buying it.

http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/pricing.htm

The 1st one. 20GB space and 1TB bandwidth. Is my site gonna rely this server for 1 year?

You should have learned your lesson about those insane amounts of storage and bandwidth from dreamhost...

Ya I have Ntfu.... After removing my hide hack mod, now they have force me to uninstall vbchat too.

I m tired of them now.... I do believe that it is a problem for them also, but now tired of shared servers, well no one has told me about the server that i have mentioned above.

Also i am looking forward to this server too:
Get Details of 1 & 1 VPS (http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/VpsRoot;jsessionid=9F51DAE5CEDEAF990DEF9E90EAEF15E D.TC60a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static)

Can any one suggest which one is better.

That tip alone should be a sticky somewhere. Always, always, always make more than one backup before a move.

1and1 is horrible nowadays. Check webhostingtalk.com and search for them. They were excellent a few years back, but are completely in the gutter now.

For VPS, I can't say enough good things about powervps.com. They've been my host for over a year now and their customer support is absolutely outstanding. I had some server issues last week, and the owner actually called me and chatted for half an hour, hashing out ways to go about resolving it. That kind of CS is unheard of these days. They're really fantastic.

The problem here is some of your hacks / mod installs seems like you have the thank you hack installed if so uninstall/disable it will kill any forum with a large amount of users unless you purchase a dedicated server.

Please list the hacks/mods/packages you have installed.

If you need a dedicated server you can purchase one here (https://billme.wolfservers.com/billing/order/orderwiz.php?aid=sir0091)

The pricelist can be found here (http://wolfservers.com/servers/files/pricelist.htm) for the servers.
VB forums here (http://wolfservers.com/portal/index.php)

Mostly for gameservers/dedicated gameservers but also servers for individuals that want to do their own web hosting or need more power that a VPS or shared hosting account can't offer.

You will get the same thing if you move to another shared host. Dreamhost is very friendly and open with their customers on what they can and can't do (flexible)
