I'm finding it hard to keep up with all the little template changes and code changes I make on my site between vB version. I've tried saving the templates that have been modified locally but it hasn't been the easiest to go back and find my changes. I've started commenting everything I do, so hopefully this will make it easier on the next upgrade.
How do you keep up with what you have changed? Do you have a system that makes it a little less painfull when an upgrade rolls out? Thanks for your help!

Mark the modification as installed.
Then in the navbar click the drop down usercp button and view installed modifications

I do that, but I'm mainly wondering how others keep track of all the hacks and code modifications they do within vB files and templates.

Using Araxis Merge (http://www.araxis.com/) software is usefull when you want to compare the files. I got this idea from here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=38545 :)

I keep a simple change log of everything thing I do. Makes upgrades a breeze.

Template Changes
Comment template edits; also, leave a comment within TEMPLATE HISTORY
On your next upgrade, the template comparison tool will display a list of templates that needs manual updates.
From here you can compare NEW from OLD.Plugins
Product Manager - I suggest adding [APM] Advanced Product Management (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=121792). A great tool that displays everything required for a product to work.File Edits
Comment file edits.
Leave a note regarding file edits within the ADMINISTRATOR NOTES found in admincp / control panel (index).
TIP #1: Keep the number of modifications/addons on your forum to a minimum. :p
