Google Adsense

Im looking in to ways to make some money to keep me site going. But I really dont know were to start. I heard that google adsense was a good source of money. If so, how do I get it? And does it work for forums that are small right now(hopefully will grow)?

from what i have heard you don't make a lot with Google Adsense and they only pay out when you have $50 or something..
