Testing plug ins

How can I test new plug ins or mods to make sure they do what I want them to do, without having them actually appearing in my live forum? Any suggestions?

Install and test it on your test forum

You are allowed to setup a test forum under the directory 'testvb'. But that folder has to be locked (ie. password protected).
