Excellent mod! It just so happens my staff and I were just talking about how much we wanted forum specific character limits and to my surprise, a new mod had just been released.
Thanks a lot! :)

Anyone have suggestions for the hack? Or is it "complete"? :p

Dismounted, I have a question. Could this be adapted to follow an assigned usergroup instead of a specified forum. Also to include images?
For example, I want my CM's to write articles within the forum. These articles always exceed the word and image count set in vb options. I want to place the articles in the category they most relate too, but dont want to up the variables in those forums for registered users. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Which would override though? :p

I think the usergroup would override the forum. That way all forums would have the ability to for X amount, but it would do a member usergroup check and restrict it from there.
I would settle for an all forums on and the usergroup running the restriction. I really need this on a per post basis.

Per post? That's crazy... :p

Per post? That's crazy... :p
Why? :)
For instance, one could combine Chiefs lock first post with your min/max and integrate articles within the forums alongside normal posts. The articles would be placed in the forum that fits best. In my case with an RC forum. If an article were to be written about motors, then that post could be made within that fora, with the first post locked (article format) and unlimited characters and img tags :)
Of course per post wouldnt be really per post. It would be applicable to the usergroup itself as that would over ride the character limitations. ie. sub usergroup for article writers etc.

Then it really wouldn't be per post ;). But rather, usergroup-based.

Yes, per post was definately a bad choice of words :)

Could this be adapted so that certain usergroups have no limits, like staff?

Anybody knows how to integrate this into GARS (http://www.thevbgeek.com/geekmart.php?do=displayproduct&id=3)?

It should work with GARS since it uses regular forums... however if you're planning on controlling the comments to a story, then you might run into problems since the restrictions would most likely apply to the entire forum(news story and commenters).

I would love to see a character remaining counter option for this great little mod!
This way users could easily adjust there comments or posts rather than trial and error after submission.

I will quote the post I made in your thread:
Nope - don't think I've heard the idea thrown around. It certainly sounds relevant to the modification though.
