Can we get an option to exclude certain forums? I have some forums with links that are already rewritten before they are posted. I wonder if this will totally bork those.

Or did your latest update fix that?

Dismounted, just wanted to say thank you again for releasing this.

The 3 min of my time to plug it in has earned me a significant amount of cash over the past 20 days. The best part, is that its serving advertising, without serving advertising! The users post it anyway, and while 90% of the time, its just some random "jesus toast" on ebay, the 15 day cookie is working wonders :)

So, thank you again.

And, let me know if you plan on an amazon hack :D

Thank you for the PM! I do not know anything about PP Classifieds but I did post a lising on vBClassified and this worked perfectly! You can see it running here:

http://www.vbclassified.com/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=126

Note, any script that uses vBulletin's built in message processing scripts will likely work the same but as you can see in my demo listing a person can post a link to their listings and the link will be converted to a URL with the affiliate code included!

Guys,

I'm just becoming acquainted with the EBay affiliate program so please be gentle :) am I correct in that this mod uses a 15 day cookie (I'm reading about the affiliate program on EBay while writing this now) to "bump up" the standard 7 day referral limit they discuss in the FAQ? (http://affiliates.ebay.com/ns/Payout.htm)

Just want to make sure this doesn't violate any adsense-esque type of rule or law..

Hi,

thanks a lot. I just installed it and would like to use it for the german Ebay partner-program.

I changed line 43 of the xml to:
if (!$parsie['host'] OR !preg_match('/(.*)ebay\.[a-z0-9]+/i', $parsie['host']) OR preg_match('/partners\.webmasterplan\.com/i', $parsie['host']))

Not sure if I got that one right. This should contain the domain of the rewritten URLs to prevent double-rewriting right?

and line 57 to:
$newurl = 'http://partners.webmasterplan.com/click.asp?ref=372170&site=1382&type=text&tnb=23&diurl=' . rawurlencode(str_replace('&amp;', '&', $url));

Please note that the IDs in line 57 are hardcoded. The ID entered in the VB-settings will NOT be used, you will have to edit the xml-file manually and enter your ref and site IDs there.

Here is the line of code again, this time with markers instead of my IDs:
$newurl = 'http://partners.webmasterplan.com/click.asp?ref=###enter_your_ref_id_here###&site=###enter_your_site_id_here###&type=text&tnb=23&diurl=' . rawurlencode(str_replace('&amp;', '&', $url));

Works for me, maybe someone can use this.

all the best,
Sacha

Interesting.

• Will this re-write links to eBay.com to eBay.co.uk?
• My members write all different types of links to auctions - will this convert all of them?
• If someone from the US clicks the link to eBay.co.uk but eventually buys through .com, what happens then?
• Does this work on 3.6.8 yet?

1./ This will rewrite any eBay links (regardless of extension) through their affiliate program.
2./ Yes.
3./ This would be a question you should ask eBay.
4./ Some people say it's working, some people say it's not working. I haven't had a chance to install a 3.6.8 test board, so I cannot confirm.

I had CJ check functionality and this is what they had to say (my comments below):

All clicks/impressions/sales generated through your links (with your PID in link's code) will be registered and appear in your status.
This is not happening (and I know that both .co.uk and .com re-written links are being clicked).

To became affiliate with eBay US you have to apply to their program first, be accepted and then create new links for this advertiser (its separate program from eBay UK). At this moment you are already using ebay.com links but you havent got relationship with them threfore your links are invalid.
So, this mod is only valuable (when it works) if you link to one eBay domain (as the mod can't change links to different eBay PIDs). My site has both .com and .co.uk links.

Hope this doesn't come across as knocking you or the mod - that's not the case. I'd love this mod to not only work, but also work for both UK and US eBay domains. :)

I've subscribed to both and there are two things to note if your debating the two. Auctionads gives you a $25 getting started bonus, and the official eBay affiliate links load faster.

The interface in the Control Panel says:

"Enter your eBay Affiliate PID". Shouldn't this be the Commision Junction PID (for the particular website the forum is on) as shown on CJ?.

eBay has advertiser IDs ('AID' I think) not PIDs.

If I log into CJ and create an aff link, the AID number is different. However, when you use the Flexible Destination Tool (http://affiliates.ebay.com/ns/FlexTool.htm), the AID is as coded into this plugin. Clicks and revenue are counted properly on my end, hence it must be working just fine.

Had a guy put the URL for a search on his eBay username in a post - see here: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=93794. This basically listed all the items he has for sale.

Since this is not a link to an actual auction would I still get affiliate credit if someone was to go to eBay via this link on my forum and then buy one of the items he has listed?

Thanks. :) Not sure it'll help though because on my site, people post links to both UK and US domains (and others). If someone in the UK buys an item, the US AID isn't valid. If I change the US AID to a UK one, then the US ones don't register!...

Hmmm, it's tricky. Can the mod not be made recognise the base URL (.co.uk / .com) and add the relevant AID accordingly? I'm sure you'll rise to god-like status if you could pull that one off! ;) :)

I approve of this plugin.

Great to see that you're earning (a lot :eek:) from my modification. You can't really hide the links when "mouseovering" as this is an effect of the browser, and I have no control over it.

I am getting the following error.

Warning: parse_url(http://c:\documents) [function.parse-url (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/function.parse-url)]: Unable to parse URL in /includes/init.php(329) : eval()'d code on line 107

When I disable the plug-in it goes away.

This is how it parses the invalid link:
http://C:\Documents (http://c/) and Settings\Nick\My Documents\My Pictures\2008 STI\53907-a-sub.jpg

Seems to be caused by URLS with spaces... and in this case a URL that was in fact a user trying to link to an image on his own HD.

I am running 3.6.8 PL2.

Thanks in advance.

Bummer...

So there is no way you can tell you hack to just ignore parsing the link when it contains a space? Would it be possible to do a straight up initial regex check to see if the link contains the word ebay anywhere before attempting to rewrite.

It already does that, if you look in the code, it checks for eBay URL via regex.

Is it possible for this Mod to be used for other stores, except Ebay, I'm installing it when I get back from work. However looks a great plugin, just curious as to whether it could or you plan to extend it to other online stores?

As most affiliate links seem to follow a similar pattern....

eg. http://{affilate_url}/{unique_id}?DURL={Original URL}

Hmmm... why would it attempt to convert a URL that does not have ebay in the title though? Could it be a combination of issues encountered within vB when it sees a URL with a space in it? Could the RegEx be failing entirety because of the space in the URL?

Hello,

I'm a newbie to VBulletin so I have a rather inane question. I've added the product via the XML file and clicked on

VBoptions -> Rewrite eBay LInks

I've entered in my ID. So far, so good.

Now...how do I set the search string and where it should display in the forum? I do not see any options for that.

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried? I have not had the time to play with 3.7 yet, but as mentioned in my other modification threads, once vBulletin hits 3.7 Gold, my modifications will get there eventually. I'm not doing anything before 3.7 Gold, as there are probably lots of quirks before it does get there.

So I'm a bit confussed how this function works. Lets say some one posts a pic with a link or a click here link to a URL from ebay, is it suppose to add your PID to the URL?

Got this from eBay...

How will it affect this mod?....

=========

We are excited to announce eBay?s new global affiliate platform: the eBay Partner Network.

The new platform will go live on April 1st, 2008 PST, at which point eBay will no longer be running its affiliate program through Commission Junction. Beginning April 1st, affiliates should register with eBay Partner Network and migrate their links from CJ to the new platform.

While CJ and ValueClick have been valuable partners to eBay throughout the years, we?ve decided to give our affiliate community a customized experience for eBay affiliates.

All the great tools and benefits of working with the eBay program will remain the same ? access to the Editor Kit and affiliate API, the flexible destination tool, the great payout structure. In addition, the eBay partner network will provide several new features:
? Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously
? New, targeted banners and rich media creatives
? New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities
? More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay?s programs

The eBay Partner Network and Commission Junction will run in parallel for one month through this process, so please plan to complete your migration by May 1st, 2008.

You can receive an additional 5% bonus for all traffic tracked through eBay Partner Network in April 2008 (bonus applicable to traffic sent to Half.com and US, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, India and Spain eBay sites). The sooner you migrate, the more you?ll earn! Just:
? Register with eBay Partner Network on April 1, 2008
? Confirm your registration, and obtain your new identifiers
? Update your links with your new identifiers.
? Reminder: Please plan to complete migration by May 1, 2008.

You will receive more information and step by step directions for the transition on April 1st. A special help desk to answer your questions about migration will also be available starting April 1st. You can find more details, including a list of programs that will be affected, at http://affiliates.ebay.com.

Thanks for being a valued partner. We?re excited for a successful transition, and the opportunity to grow your business through even more innovations, information and communication moving forward!

Sincerely,

eBay?s Affiliates Managers

I fixed this by changing line 111 in the product-rewrite_ebay_links.xml file from

<validationcode><![CDATA[return (strlen($data) == 9);]]></validationcode>

to

<validationcode><![CDATA[return (strlen($data) == 10);]]></validationcode>

This took care of the admin CP error, but it wouldn't display the &campid=XXXXXXXXXX bit in the rewritten links. I just hardcoded my campaign ID in the XML file. Ready to keep on rocking.

Actually, I found some discrepancy between dismounted's code and the one the link generator at EPN provides:

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=XXXXXXXXXX&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=

is the prefix that the generator spits out (eBay US Network),

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?toolid=10013&campid=XXXXXXXXXX&mpre=

is dismounted's code. I'll switch things around in the XML file, just to make sure. For now, I don't see any clicks or revenue tracked yet, this may be due to the reporting delay though.

I was following eBay's Developer documentation with the URL format, but it seems they are not right (typical eBay...:p). I've now switched a few things over and updated the v1.2 package. Please re-download and import the v1.2 XML. I apologize for the incorrect formats.

The added income from switching early was a bonus... but I had a feeling eBay would not have their act together and it would flop and die. I'm probably going to move in the next day or two, hopefully the eBay problems will be fixed by then.

Oh, Dismounted, on the Mod Admin page in vB Options it still says:

Can someone answer me this?:

I think I currently only get revenue for clicks through to eBay.com from my forum. With this new system, would I get revenue from all regions i.e. ebay.co.uk, ebay.fr, ebay.ca etc :confused:

Does it depend on the location of the 'clicker'?

Ebay Partner Network talks about such localization (UK, FR, CA etc) but I haven't seen any results from these places only from the USA. I'd like to figure this part out, we have a LOT of International members. But I've not seen any info on how to make that work with this mod.

My revenue is equal to or higher than before. I did add some new Ebay banners etc at the same time I changed my links.

It does take 3 to 5 days at least for commissions to start ramping up. But I had sales on day one and was at normal CJ levels by day 4.

Many users at the EPN website are complaining of no sales. I can only assume they botched the conversion coding on their pages.

Ok, a few days have passed and the code is confirmed as working.

However, as previously stated all URLs resolve to eBay US (even if it's a .co.uk or .de link. Therefore, only clicks (and subsequent purchases) by those in the US are registering and generating commission on the eBay partner Program.

Is there any way at all that the code can be modified to resolve to the clicker's default eBay location and thus generate commission?

This isn't a whinge; this is a superb mod but it could be so much better if the above was possible. :)

Hi,

However, as previously stated all URLs resolve to eBay US (even if it's a .co.uk or .de link. Therefore, only clicks (and subsequent purchases) by those in the US are registering and generating commission on the eBay partner Program.

I don`t have a solution for a dynamic - location aware - rewrite but here`s my changed code for the german program (warning, this has my affiliate ID hardcoded, please replace it with the config-var!):
function rewrite_ebay($text = '')
{
if (!$text)
{
return $text;
}

global $vbulletin;

$search = $replace = array();
$anchor = preg_quote('<a href="');

if (preg_match_all('/' . $anchor . '([^"]+)/i', $text, $links))
{
if (!$links)
{
return $text;
}

$links = array_unique($links[1]);
$parsed = array_map('parse_url', array_map('strtolower', $links));

foreach ($parsed AS $key => $parsie)
{
if (!$parsie['host'] OR !preg_match('/(.*)ebay\.[a-z0-9]+/i', $parsie['host']) OR preg_match('/partners\.webmasterplan\.com/i', $parsie['host']))
{
unset($links[$key]);
continue;
}
}

if (!$links)
{
return $text;
}

foreach ($links AS $url)
{
$newurl = 'http://partners.webmasterplan.com/click.asp?ref=372170&site=1382&type=text&tnb=23&diurl=' . rawurlencode(str_replace('&amp;', '&', $url));
$search[] = '<a href="' . $url;
$replace[] = '<a href="' . $newurl;
}
}

if ($search)
{
$text = str_replace($search, $replace, $text);
}

return $text;
}

Ciao,
Sacha

^ Ok, I'm assuming a multi-national code isn't possible. Even a paid job?

Possible? :)

Nope. :(

From eBay:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your question on what you could do so that clicks by users from other countries would register clicks and revenue.

I would like to inform you that program-specific links only track actions for the corresponding site (i.e., eBay US links track actions on eBay.com).

If affiliates have visitors from different countries, consider using our Geotargeted links or creatives, which will automatically track for relevant programs.

I hope this information answers your question. Thank you for using eBay.

Kind regards,

eBay Partner Network Support
Geotargetted links won't work in my case because people just cut and paste the URL from ebay (and it's usually either US or UK links they post).

I accept though that geo-targetted URL conversions may be impossible but it must be possible to recognise what people have typed (or cut n' pasted) on the forum, no?

A couple of days ago eBay came out in their blog saying that the URL's in their links needed to be encoded. Previously their own affiliate link creator was not doing this. (it appears to be fixed and is encoding now)

Does this mod do this currently? I'm just wondering if we're basing everything on how eBay was previously telling us to do it, which has now changed.

My sales and commissions went down about 75% when I switched to the new eBay system, so for now I've switch back to CJ, at least until the end of the month.

Here's a quote from eBay and a link to the blog:
http://www.ebaypartnernetworkblog.com/category/english/

2. Make sure you ‘url encode’ the eBay destination url (after mpre= ) and if you are using the customid and you have any special characters within it, this will need to be url encoded too.
