View Full Version : Eclipse Records - vbulletin backend

I built the entire site using vbulletin as the back-end. Created a control panel for managing all bands, and their content, news, audio music, videos, and photopost gallery for storing all images and downloads. I guess it's almost a total conversion, with the forums still being operational within. We bought the branding free option if anyone's wondering, lol.

Please let me know what you think, good/bad comments, etc... any bugs or suggestions for improvement?

Oh man, that looks really good. Very creative use of the vB backend, and the red and grays is overall a good look. I really like it, best of luck to you!

I like what you have done there :)

Although I see the background to

Contact Us (http://www.eclipserecords.com/forum/sendmessage.php) - Eclipse Records, inc. (http://www.eclipserecords.com/) - Archive (http://www.eclipserecords.com/forum/archive/index.php) - Privacy Statement (http://www.eclipserecords.com/about.php?do=privacy) - Top (http://www.eclipserecords.com/#top)

Looks out of place.

I also find the forum link hard to navigate and use quickily.

I would change your forum icons also:

http://www.eclipserecords.com/forum/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif
http://www.eclipserecords.com/forum/images/statusicon/forum_old.gif
http://www.eclipserecords.com/forum/images/statusicon/forum_old_lock.gif

To something better matching your style :)

Other than that. Looking good :)

good ideas Distance, Would you please elaborate a bit more on the forum link being hard to navigate and use quickly? How is it difficult to use? It's a dropdown menu created by vbulletin's usual means. Do you suggest to place all the links for the forum dropdown into the menubar? I placed them in the dropdown menu because of the amount of other links. Any advice you can offer or suggestions to make it easier to use would be appreciated. thank you :)

Very nice cutomizations... did you use vb advanced to make the extra pages?

I would make all your forums "viewable" by guests so that you can get spidered by google, etc and entice more members to sign up.

Also, ie7 gives me javascript errors at the bottom "syntax error, line 2, char 1"

Other than that, nice job!

No, all custom pages are coded from scratch, vbadvanced was not used. Every artist, tourdate, item, song and audio/video and all content is all administered within the adminCP and stored in the database. Images are administered through PPgallery and dynamically called based upon whatever is called. Whenever we want to create a new band or item, we just do so through the control panel and info is generated just link in a CMS. It's basically a custom built CMS for our specific business needs.

The javascript error is somethigni haven't been able to fix. It only shows up to visitors who are not logged in. If you log in the error disappears, and I also noticed that the error doesn't show up in Firefox at all (only on IE). I looked all over to figure this out but am totally stumped... Line 2 Char 1 is as follows...

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html dir="ltr" lang="en">

I don't see anything wrong with that?

Impressive use of the vBulletin engine indeed, give yourself a pat on the back. Expertly done. But I'd like to see a theme that matches up to the quality of the backend.

thanks for the kind words, theme meaning like a skin for the forums that matches the main site pages?

thanks, it took a while to do, but more so because it's my first time doing anything like this. I learned everything i needed to know by reading the HowTo articles (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=187) right here at vborg.

I haven't really considered it, what you're seeing is almost a solid year's work.

Thats because your a one man army! :)
Goto the kitchen, get 5 table spoons of butter, 3 friend fish sticks and 4 eggs. Whip them together and eat it then go into the time continuum and eventually you shall have a few clones to help you, if that fails... ask on of your friends whos good with php :D Perhaps you can make a professional team like Zoints, Vision scripts and other great companys :P

I like your releases mod as i feel i could adjust it abit to suit games instead of music for use on my gaming forums! ;)

You could happily charge a fair amount of money to resell that. And yes, I did mean the overall look. I don't think it does the system justice, it stil looks quite boxy and plain and forumesque.

I could, but then I would have to support it too... that's the killer, lol. I appreciate your comments on the style, hopefully i can get to revising it some day, I'm not 100% happy with the look of it either, but the functionality is what's most important to me right now.

Not so! But of course you'd get vastly fewer sales for an unsupported paid-for product.

Is that your professional homepage? I'm interested in seeing what else you do.

No, it's the website for the company I work for. I don't have a personal homepage. I just work for Eclipse.
