Can anyone create a better garage than this? :P

I can't believe phpbb has a nice looking mod garage. Ahhh!!

theres one in the works as we speak, forum rules prevent me from making a thread related to the mod until its in a releasable state. but a mod that is very similar if not better than the phpbb garage mod is coming soon.

Yeah? Keep me informed!!! I had that PHPBB garage and loved it. Now the choices I have are somewhat disappointing. I guess I'm spoiled.

Soon, as in which decade?

Unfortunately I don't think any of the people who have threatened to make a good garage module were serious. It's a shame.

we've actually begun porting phpBBGarage to Vbulletin.

It's actually a little more than halfway complete, and we should have a working prototype completed in the next few days.

here's a teaser shot of the progress:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

I'd actually like to start a thread devoted to this modification and it's development, but I'm not sure which forum would be appropriate.

We can continue here for the time being. What can I do in regards to helping on this?

You are a star and this would fit my vectra forums great.

Wil there be any way to transfer from vbpicgallery to this?

The site I help admin has just moved over from phpBB to VB and we had this mod back on the old site. Losing it has been a bit of a gutter so if you could bring this over I know the users on the site would be chuffed.

Please keep us updated.

Any update on this? I know there are dozens of boards who are interested in this and I'm sure we could give support. Our members want this mod!

If you're taking requests, please add in the timeslip database mod as well.

I've gotten someone to create a custom garage system for VB3.7
I might release as a freeware... even though I paid the guy $1,000 to create it.

Will post screen shots of it in a bit.

Not sure what you want with this post.

If you want to share it: release it

Otherwise your post has no value for other members.

I really cannot comprehend this. A quick search shows a massive amount of interest in this mod yet it cannot be accomplished - even with people offering money.

What will it take to get someone to actually take on this project AND complete it?

Excuse the frustration, but it is the one thing I and my members really miss after converting to vB.

Is this actually an advertisement for something or is there a mod or product link I've missed?

I created one for djxcee, but I guess it's up to him if he releases it...

News to me either way.

Based upon Fusion Script or from scratch? If it was based upon FS or similar I would happily support the mod!

Yes, SirAdrian was the one that created the module (Thank you for doing so :) ).
I'll post back soon, still need to talk to my partner about it.

Probably because it's a large project, as you can see by the price tag on djxcee's one.
I've been working on one but haven't posted about it because my time to work on it is limited and I figured another one would have to come out before I finished.
I'm only at about 50% done so it'll be a bit for mine. Families suck up quite a bit of time lol.

I guess I don't see $1000 as being a large price tag. Even if you only charge $20 per subscriber, you don't think you could instantly get 50 sites to want this mod?

I can think of 50 sites in the mustang world alone...let alone LS1's, classics, imports of all types, trucks, etc.

From what I can see of your thumbnail it looks like you're making some great progress.

I just know from my perspective it's been a year of hearing 'I'm almost done' from multiple people. I even tried to hire people. I personally would have gladly paid $1000 to have it done if I retained the rights to distribute it. That's a no brainer in my book. If necessary add in some type of registration code which can only be used once to prevent piracy.

If your selling something, there's a difference between supporting 50 sites and 1 site, especially if it's for the same amount.
With php you can't really prevent piracy unless you encode it with something like Zend Encoder. Then you cut down the sites that can use it because they need to have the decoder running.

Snkypete
07-27-2008, 07:45 PM
If it works properly, support should be at a bare minimum. We never requested support from phpbbpgarage/Fusion. The support provided by other mods is no different.

Then people can purchase Zend Encoder - issue solved. Or people can hopefully just do the proper thing and pay for its use...and then if they want support, well....

You're making an issue where there isn't one. The issue is getting a competent coder to actually do this mod. There is money to be made from it.

I have been interested in starting on this, but I'm fearful that another one will release before I can get done with it; so I'm hesitant on putting all the work in.

Same with me Cole. But after seeing a few people say they were going to release a beta version in a few days and then months go by, I figured what the heck, it'd be an experience either way. I'm about 50% done with mine, but it's slow going with a day job, wife and kid. If you beat me to the punch I wouldn't lose any sleep over it :)

Snkypete, wasn't trying to make an issue out of anything. It's just your talking about two seperate things with the $1000/1 user vs $20/multiple users. The software I work with for my day job is the same way, 20k+ for one server license and each user has to have a user license and it pisses a good chunk of the developer community off that they do their licensing model that way. But I see their reasoning, less people wanting customizations, help, etc means less time/money for support and more time/money for sales/fluff coding.

Here's the beta version: http://www.e1320.com/forums/index.php

it's functional, but there are several bugs that still need to be worked out.

about halfway through the project, I ran out of steam (likely due to the nicer weather) so I had a developer I often outsource my excess work to, help me out.

So far I've got about $700 into it, not including my own time.

anyhow, check it out and offer any feedback.

Looks good! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us! The one thing I notice is that the tables are not autosizing based upon screen resolution and even when I go full screen (1680x1050) I'm still missing a little of the right table and even the box where it says 'welcome xxxxx'.

Only other things I see is uploaded pictures don't seem to be working and you can't search by horsepower....

Hope that helps.

Looks really nice. The rolling road page gives an error as guest, not sure as user.
You going to release it on here when it's done or is it going to be a pay add on type of thing?

the plan is/was to release it here with a slight twist.

I wanted to have the option for other forum owners & users to publish their vehicle info to one central repository. I still haven't worked out the feasibility of that.

Now that's a very cool idea. I guess I'm going to stop working on mine since your releasing yours here :)

btw, you think about tabbing the pages instead of using the buttons?

yes there are a number of small changes I wanted to do, but first I wanted to get things working as they were in phpbb

I'm glad that this mod is finally making progress and I know that the users of the board I admin would love to see this return after converting from phpBB to VB it's been missed.

I don't think however that the central database idea would suit our site, mostly as we are in the UK and a lot of the cars are customised but in ways that wouldn't interest say those in the States or Japan.

If it's available as a standalone product for VB, hopefully with some hook into VBadvanced, then even I can guarantee that we'd be using it, even if it costs...depending on the licence fee obviously.

Good work.

Definately looking good. I was working on my own version (ie, replicating phpBBgarage) a couple years ago, but just like others, family and work seemed to take priority. I've tried to get a couple coders involved as well, and have tried to keep up on all the threads pertaining to the mod. So yeah, its nice to see it finally "almost" being there. I know I would gladly pay a fee to be able to let my users have this mod back.

There are about a dozen of us who have the garage functioning and installed on our servers - here is my site :

So far support has been great from the developer!

My site:

http://www.g5club.net/forum/garage.php

Operational and working great. The support from the developer is great too. There has been a few bugs, I mention it to the developer and he has it fixed within a couple hours/posted for everyone to download a new version. Every version I download, comes with a few extra features too. Members love it and within a day, already had 20 vehicles created by Premium Members (paid group access only). I'll say great work!!!

Great modification!!! HIGHLY recommended for ANYONE who has any type of automotive/vehicle type forums/site.

We have been on this about 2 weeks

close to 200 cars in the garage and sounding like a parrot the developer is totally into this thing making changes on the fly. Really good work

Highly Recommend:D
