Here it goes, a new kind of Points System that works in any kind of situations.

this product is now GOLD ... version 1.0.1 !

update: 04-04-07: fixed most of the bugs i think... retrieve points on thread/post deletion is ok now!
update: 04-06-07: upgrade to 1.0.2 'til bug fixed... this version add the AdminCP!, display the points in member profile.
update: 04-07-07: added nex_points_registration.zip... add features on members registration.
(give points on registration, give point when invited, give points to referrer!)

update 04-10-07: reformated the tasks in the Deals, so now they are safe on mega big sites... (tested on a 250 000 users forum today!)

Simplicity:
this system is a lot more simplier than all the other points systems, provide less features, but at least, it work from the start, and can be upgraded without being hassled by a long HowTo... ;) it is so simple that ANY coder can support it... even if the creator(me) dies, everybody can make a follow up of these works.

Advantages:
- no API... no need to learn a lot of codes to be able to write a new addon for it.
- no strange calculations... you can add, delete, multiply points without having to filter everything.
- a lot of hooks possible. so if you want to apply a filter to the default points given, per usergroup or per forum, you can... without having to re-write everything.
- no need to edit millions of templates...actually, with the Core Only, you have no file or template to edit...it use the vBulletin hooks system at its best!
- no millions of features for no uses... if you don't want to use this or that feature, just don't install it! everything is run by products related to the CORE... so if you don't want all these gadgets, you don't have to install them.

Features:

default features in the core package: give points when posting threads or replies, give points on reputation... that's all...

Admin can now edit users points in the User Management...

A lot of features in the future... each time something is requested, we can see if it is possible with the default installation of vBulletin, and if not, we can surely provide a file edit to make it work.


MESSAGE TO CODERS:: if you want to play with it and bring addons and new features, PLEASE do so.. this is the goal of this freely plugable system.

MESSAGE for vBbux Owners:: The vBbux Import is now back as a package in this thread. If you already imported your vBbux points, DON'T DO IT AGAIN!

READ THE HowTo.txt file to know what to do with this...

Blaine0002 now provide his iSHOP, stating it is working properly with this system. the only detail you need for this integration is this detail when you edit your iSHOP settings:

This is an excellent idea. A Base points system to create independent modules for. As long as the core system remains simple and secure, you would eliminate issues that plague other systems now (looking at you ebux/estore). If a module has an issue, you just remove the module, not the whole system. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

i'm coding a lot of addons for the system, one of them is a section where we set per-forum the points needed to read or reply to the threads...

the per-forum thingy is a bit bigger than the default because it requires to edit the forums too, not only the settings... btw it will be done in no long.. :)

1). vbookie integration - not sure which add-on this would fall under but it is a must for myself and I would imagine, others;

2). ibproarcade integration - again not sure which side this would fall under;

3). a points 'importer' function for vbux and the vbux bank system (this may be as simple as giving us a query to run?)

Now that I think about it, if (3) was available first, I could use this immediately.

about the vBux/vbPlaza IMPORT script, i have one challenge here... someone can provide me with the script ?!... i do not have it in store, and the guys forgot they had hundreds of clients, they dropped the file...

EDIT: THANKS FOR THE DONATION... someone provided me with the script, and i was able to write a code for the import... will have to test it for mega-big websites, but the script is actually working properly, and will do two things:

1- import your cash from vBbux in your in-hand for my product...
2- import your bank cash from vBbux in your in-bank for my product...

it is a work in progress actually, we're checking if Blaine0002 will provide a link to his iBank... it is supposed to work, i did not test it... but it is one of these things i will not create... coders are requested to provide their own works to bring this tool to be great, and Blaine0002 is the first.. :)

However, for me to ever install this, I would really love an import option so i could import the points from current members (ebux points system) over to this one.

If that was possible, then this would be the points system, I would like to get up and running, to show members they have not lost there points, and that the shop will be available shortly.

Error in the Reputation thing is now corrected.. there was a missing ";" ;) so you can import the product again!

Nexialys is almost done an 'importer' to bring the vbux points you have into this new system.

Once that is run, you could probably safely uninstall vbplaza :D

EDIT: vbBux import is successful... i'll be writing an import script by the morning so before noon i'll be able to provide a working import script that will not stress your forums... and you will be able to deactivate vbBux after that. (don't delete right away, maybe you will regret it!)

as i have the script in hand, i will try to provide as much hooks as possible replicating the behavior inside vbBux... so the places where the points were gained/lost, etc... i'm not duplicating the system, i'm locating where it was used before and will apply my API to it... (the API will come later today too! - remember, this is a BETA script)

OK I had changed the name of the points to make it more to our site and that is why they were not showing up. I changed it back to points and now it works. :)

no, it is because you installed it before i make the switch to show it or not, and the new setting was not taken into consideration, so that's why it was not showing.. you can try and rename your points again, it is supposed to work now...

some guys already faced that error between the versions...

There is still no bank right? Just want to be sure because no points transfered for that. And also, how does this tie in with the plaza and gifts and so on? My members LOVED that part. Can it still be used, or should I uninstall it all and add ishop?

Good Question here:

vBulletin Options >> Nexia's Points System - Values Features

you want your points to be "$1.05"...

if you read your points, they are 105 coins (1 dollar and 5 coins) ...

so you will have to add "Coin Name", AND "Money Name"... AND add a "Coin Multiplier" of 100....

the display is not actually displaying the real value of the points, this is one of the things i have to fix before the GOLD release... but you can start working like this...

i know it is a lot different from the vBbux, and other points system, but there is a reason: "Real Life"...

this system is to be used for commercial uses also, not only points and shops... a lot of sponsors and eShops are interested to have real values to their points... so 100 cents mean 1 dollar ... 100 "points" mean one "big point"... other RPG works the same way... the logic is for the real life, not some kind of false evaluation given by some old cash systems.

Here is my basic assumption...People build points and then get prizes?

1 -How have others determined the payouts or when ppl get rewarded... Are cash payouts done?

2 -I have members who are very active in the forum and can easily rack up points... How do you avoid abuse?

Just wanna see some examples and logic behind it...

3 -As for customization... say i don't wanna reward points for posts... but I have my own custom vbpages that have forms that add/submit data using CLASS_DM's.... is it easy to capture?

- X points on VIEWS of authored threads (as in, the person who starts the thread gets points when the thread is viewed; a traffic credit, essentially)

- Display points in user's public profile (I suspect I can add this myself)

Less important:

- Display graphics/medals/stars/badges of some kind to indicate levels of point accumulation

- Allow use of decimals in awards/multipliers such as 0.02 points etc (one can obviously work around this by inflating their currencies, but decimals make for easier and more precise tweaking of the currency, especially as you add more credit/debit event variables)

Ok, thanks for the echoes ... and for the bug reports... (i like bug reports when they are solid!)

... i'll check the error about the "new thread" that is not given...
... after a load of requests, decimals will be allowed... :)

Extensions of features like the paypal integration are to be developped by external coders, not me... and they will be provided in the section "Addons"... because i will continue to release this script as a basic version... Paypal integration is already possible, the bug is that the Geek Mart have to be purchased on The Geek's website...
(remember the logic: if people buy points via paypal, that brings you profit... if you have profits, you are able to pay for a well coded software...)

In the next hours i will add some hooks to the system, in a Addon:
Addon #1: Paid Per View - Will pay members when they read threads.
Addon #2: Pay to Post - Will require the members to pay with points when creating/replying/viewing threads.

these addons can be expanded to any kind of feature, like the Calendar, Glossary, etc... these addons are a bit more complicated because they require to edit some permission per forum, and maybe per usergroups too...

actually, there is some rebuild to be done, because these features are to be seperate (if needed) in more precise sections, that'S why the script continue to be in BETA!!!

good to see it will be tested on a big board, i tested the import "vBbux" on a 12000 members, took 4 seconds for the process...

wait 'til the version is gold btw, in a day or two, so you will have less upgrades to do.

today i've rebuilt the decimal detail... it will continue to be a multiplier, not a decimal in dB, for a simple reason... 4 times less transformation of data, so a lot simplier to code addons...

the IMPORT FOR VBBUX will be interupt for the next 24 hours, so there is a new version coming... two i can say... 1 for the ones who already imported, and 1 for the newcombers...

about vBbux, you do not have to install it, if you do not have vBbux you have to skip that step... the goal is to replace the vBbux that is out-dated and buggy... that's why it was deleted lately.

if you need a points system, you will be able to install this one without a problem, and use it without having to update anything.. it works with any version above 3.5.0 ...

also, a lot of plugins and extensions will be created in the next days, just after the GOLD version is released .. .the GOLD is actually the core, debugged.. :)

i tested the latest version, the points when creating a thread is now working, and when you reply to a thread, you can have two different points: X points if you are the author, or X points if you are not.. :) (sometimes it is good to not have the same amount of points!)

the vBbux import is ok, it was not updated after all, it's the product itself that was... NPS will update itself to suite any need of decimal and points.. :) with more fun!

Nexialys, or anyone else, I think this is going to work for me but I'm not sure what else I need. Here is what I will be doing with it.

I am creating a forum for gamers to play tournaments and bet on online games, like Halo. Members will buy x amount of points for x amount of dollars. They can then use those points to enter tournaments and bet with each other. If they win the tournament they will get all the points that were used by members to enter the tournament. Then when ever they want they can cash out with their points for real money.

It would be nice if when they bought the points it went straight into their bank or if when they entered a tournament they just clicked a enter button that took their points away but I believe all of this could work if people can just pm points to other members.

I don't know what else I need besides Nexia's Point System. Oh and if anyone is interested in helping with this project and loves video games I am looking for a partner. It will be VGPros.com. Thanks in advance.

actually, if you buy the Geek Mart system, you will have a system that works to buy points with paypal... but i suppose someone may provide a free alternative to go directly into paypal... i'm not playing with that part.

for the tournaments thing, i don't know how to handle that... but i'm sure you will find a coder that will built something similar to that request in no long... wait 'til the Gold is out.. i'm fixing the release actually, with a baby and 2 runners in the office... so it will have to wait another 1 or 2 hours... lol

The message is simple: you use a Beta version of vBulletin... please update your vBulletin...

There is no specific hook where to apply this process to custom hacks because it's a simple query added to a setting related to the hack you want to integrate to... the best thing is to wait a day or two, when more addons are added... you will have the portrait on how to integrate this system to your prefered hack...

for the calendar, i'll have something tomorrow... when i fix the attachments.

and there is no way to track points per activities... this system is not a tracker, but someone can add a tracker inside the process because there is a hook in each process to enable such feature. once a stat-builder or a activity tracker created, i suppose you can make a lot of searches regarding activities... i may bring something about this soon, as i'm finishing a whole search thing actually, maybe i can mimic it to the tracker...

Gotcha.. so basically its an additional option that someone will have to create. I would be happy with either per forum or per usergroup since that is probably the most important characteristic is attachment viewing permissions by forum/usergroup for my site.

what I did was I use the administrator account to create a thread.. delete it. The points were deducted. Horray!

but I tried using administrator to create a post and delete the post. The points were still there..

so.. now i'm confuse is that.. if the administrator deletes someone else posts, will the points be remove from that someone else? It would be good though because it allow moderator to delete thread and post and at the same time, the thread/post points will be remove from the users.

Updated: using a normal user also did not remove the points when the user delete his own post.

Post deletion
1) When a single post (not the first thread) is deleted, the points were not deducted.
2) When a thread containing posts get deleted. The replies posters points get deducted correctly but the thread starter points were deducted more than it's original amount. (thread points and post points added together were removed from thread poster)

later this evening i will release a 1.0.2 version, with all these debugs and some new features...

for the @2, here is the process:

when a thread is deleted, first we retrieve the points of the thread author for the thread creation.
then we count the posts inside this thread without the firstpost (thread creation) grouped by userid.
if the posts are from the thread starter, we apply the proper points for it or the default depending on settings
then we retrieve the points on each user for each total of posts *(if userid 1 have 4 posts, we retrieve 4*points)....

as i dropped the calculation of the firstpostid, the count is based on posts for the thread.

for the bank, i have a complete and "like-in-real-life" solution on paper here, but i'm actually focussing on the first part of the project, bringing this version to a complete debugged and hassle-free release...

i'm actually working on the admin side, something i called "the Dealer"... Points Dealer for Admin:

1- enable search per criterias, after search, apply a deal.

2- enable usergroup selection and apply deal on selection.

3- enable reset and apply a deal regarding default values.

A deal is a way to modify their points in hand - like in a Casino!

Deal on default values may look like:

if you reset all members to zero, you can then:
.. apply default points on registration, or X points after reset
.. apply default points for existing threads/posts
.. both!

this is an example.

(btw, no other Points/Cash system have that kind of feature yet!)

ok, updated the core so the deletion of posts and threads is supposed to be ok.. i tested all the situations yesterday and it is supposed to be fixed accordingly. that process add a new query to the addon, but i can tell that it is an invisible query, so it is not overloading your system.

brillianttt!! the deduction of per post and per thread works!

buttttt (there's always a but! =P) if the thread consists of posts inside.. it's behaving abit strang.

Here's what happened:

User A (has 10 points already) created a thread (he got 10 + 1x 5 points = 15 points)

User B (has 0 points) created 2 posts in there (he got 2 x 2 points = 4 points)

say when the admin came along and he delete User A thread becos it's a spam..

So User A should have (15 - 5 = 10 points) = 10 points (but it's not happening. It's became 8 instead! (somehow the core is deducting 7 points (instead of 5) from the creator! Seems like it's treating his thread as (thread+post points) together!)

User B have (4 - 4 = 0 points) = 0 (this is brilliant)

but user A... damn... these calculations are supposed to work, i tested that exact situation this evening... ARGH it's not even calculations, it's a logical statement...

i don't know what was going out on your tests, but i just tested the exact situation you have here, and my results are correct... there is nothing wrong with the results... check:

thread creation: 3.50 points
post reply: 1.90 points

grunt: 4.00
nexia: 8.90

post a new thread:

grunt: 7.50 (4.0 + 3.5)
nexia post 2 replies: 12.70 (8.9 + 1.9 + 1.9)

deleted thread: return to proper counts

grunt : 4.00
nexia: 8.90

Nice, am working on a paypal and download store script that are going to be integrated with this script. it is not going to be a product cause i have no experience with that. Its is going to be a single php file. Some people might want it when it is finished. You are suppose to be able to by usergroups and download links ;) is some one already don this plx tell me.

I tested the deduction thingy and it's still not working =(

Removing of individual thread and posts worked perfectly..

but as I mentioned if the threads has post in there.. and admin delete the whole thread, the thread starter points get minus more than usual (she was deducted 0.5 (current) - (0.5 0.2) = You actually have -0.02 $ in hand!!!

I can see a huge problem is that if a user keep spamming the board (and encountered a spam flood error), the points will still be given to the poster even though the thread is not physically on the board!!

I can see this being exploit by people who keep hitting the reply button.. man oh mannn!

for the spamming thing, can't do more... the hook is installed after the post is posted, this can't be controled...if you have spam floods, points or not you will have problems, i think it is not related to the system here...

Here's a little hack/mod to get the points to be displayed in the profile.

First: Goto the plugins section in your ACP and click [Add New Plugin] at the bottom.

Secondly: Fill in the fields with the information below:
Product: Nexia's Points System
Hook Location: member_complete
Title: Shows Points in Members Profile
Execution Order: 1 (or just leave it as it is)
Plugin PHP Code:
$userinfo['nex_points_hand'] = vb_number_format($vbulletin->userinfo['nex_points_hand'], $vbulletin->options['nex_points_currency_decimal']) . $vbulletin->options['nex_points_currency_name_symbol'];
Plugin is Active: Yes

Then click the Save button

Thirdly: In the ACP goto Styles & Templates and goto Style Manager. Then do this for each theme:
Select a theme and then click the dropdown box beside it which says All Style Options and then click Edit Templates.

Now in the listfield to your right, find the Member Info Templates item and expand it by double clicking on it. Then when the page reloads double click on the MEMBERINFO item.

When the page loads again, you should now see a big chunk of code. In it find:

Or something similar depending on how much hacking your forum has

And then directly below that last </tr> add:

Now click the Save button.

This worked for me and I hope it will work for you :)

Nexialys thanks for the work you are doing I would just like to say that. One suggestion I'd like to make if it hasn't been made yet is putting the amount of points a user has in the admincp when you edit a users profile so it can be edited by admin/supermods if need be. Kinda how post count or rep points are in there you can change them or whatever. Again thanks for doing this, I can't wait to see where this add-on goes. ;)

this will be done by the afternoon, with the Points Dealer (admin apps)

.. the Points Dealer give the admin a flexibility to give points whenever wanted...:

what action to perform: add, strip, multiply, divide
quantity, or value: X

choice of action #1:

apply on: everybody, members with more than, member with less than
than what: X points


choice of action #2:

apply on usergroup X (one usergroup per action - due to serverload!)

Do i need to uninstall and download and install the zipped mod again at the top of this page (if its been updated) or is the reference to viewing points in user management something that is still being worked on?

He just updated it few mins ago to do that...download the new one and import the new product click overwrite when you do so...it will give you the option to edit manually in admincp. ;)

I just saw you said you installed it the other day....you might have to re-upload the xml in the includes folder, I'm not sure if he updated that since you installed it or not. So you might be better off uploading it also just to make sure.

Ive only installed Nex points and Nex points attachments which work great and i understand this ok. However, Ive not installed Nex Points VBbux yet. This looked a littel tricker for a nub like me.

Can anyone give me a very brief guide to what the VBbux zip file does once installed?! Thanks in advance.

OK I'll forget about VBbux. There seems to be a lot of negative posts regarding that mod on other threads.

For now though, your latest update shows "Cash in Hand" and "Cash in Bank" at the bottom of each users profile in Admincp.

My forum shows "Cash/points (in hand)" on each post and in UserCP. Is there any way of also showing "Cash in Bank" on each post and in User CP? I plan to manually delete some of "Cash in Hand" and move to "Cash in Bank" when I pay people. Thanks again. Keep up the good work. I really AM learning!

The cash in bank is for the Bank system that is coming up soon... you wil lbe able to manage such points later on... :)
