You know these questions are gonna come up, so minely as well ask.

Why is this integration better than vBShout, Flasherize or Flashchat? How do they compare? How well does this treat server load?

Can this be applied on forum home?

This is for users that have got an irc server and want quick access on there forums :)

yah once he is connected to the server
he can send the irc commands like he is using normal irc client

for more details you can visit the creator of the applet page http://www.pjirc.com

naw, I meant like a profile setting. There is a phpBB MOD for pjirc that allows the user to set those type of commands in their profile, so when they connect they are set.

Thanks for the follow up!

well as i wrote it's a PJIRC integration for Vbulletin ..
instead of doing the configuration in the file you can just do it from the admincp ..

I did not do the java applet .

Well it's the same .. except for few minor differences .
the one i using was a custom made since a long time ago . a request by one of the members here asked me to release it ..
didn't even check if it's there just released what i had ..
well i'll leave it to the mods if they want to remove it they can ..

sounds good ^^ thanks.

I am fairly new to IRC still and have been thinking of installing IRC on my server, however im not sure if IRC holds any problems running it on the server.

Is it safe and secure? can everything be logged and tracked? Is it easy to install? Is it easy on the server, or can it overload it?

Thanks.

Of course, but you'll need to edit all of the files.

Hi there,
i have the following message when going to the IRC page:

You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Where do i change the permission for that. could not find it..

You have two options. Copy your theme folders into the vbjirc folder, or change the image path in the vbjirc files to point to your current image files.

How difficult would it be to set up group configuration so that one group goes to one channel, while another goes to a different channel?

Like, say, I want mods to go to #mods when they use vbjirc, and I want regular users to go to #regularusers or something like that.

Go to admincp and for each usergroup, there is a new option to make the vbjirc chat available to them. By default, no one has privs to access it, even admin. You only have to do this for each USERGROUP, not each individual user :)

all i get on the chat page is a large box with a small "X" box in the upper left corner.////

I got this error when I installed it per the instructions from the vbulletin-chat.com. That was before I discovered there was this addon. I am not sure what causes this, but it is possible it is a browser/software error on your end. Try to see if another user gets same result? Dunno.

How exactly does one set this up? (for someone with no IRC experience)
Where do we get the IRC channel, etc.

You install the mod, per the instructions in the package.

As far as getting IRC access, go to:
http://www.vbulletin-chat.com/forumdisplay.php?f=573

I think you can actually do all that from your site, as far as getting your own channel and nickname and all. But there's the full instructions at that link.

To setup an empty chat channel just type /join #whateverchannelnameyouwant
To create a nick: /nick #thenicknameyouwant
To register a nick : /msg nickserv register mypass myemail@address.com but the email address is OPTIONAL
To register a channel: /msg chanserv register #mychan mypass mydescription You can't register a channel without registering a nick.

The only problem I'm having now is that when accessing my own channel from my site, it does not recognize me as the admin. But when I do it from the vbulletin-chat.com it does.

Is that a problem with the addon?

I am unable to connect past this error.
N'mind, the presets were the problem, apparently the script doesn't like multiple word "real names" (odd)

The remaining issue seems to be the styles not shoring in the chat page. I have mirrored the forumhome template and replaced the $forumbits with the $vbjirc[main] and to my surprise the styles are still MIA.

Many people this that this MOD/Addon is an all in one chat module, when it fact it is nothing more than an iRC chatroom *client. In other words, you need an running iRC server and channel in order to use this.

In case you knew all this, I threw a ping at irc.server.net ;) and it came back invalid. AKA no good. So either you didn't fully configure your the plugin or... you do not have a working irc server address to point pjirc too.

Hope this helps.

PS. if you are looking for an all in one chatroom/ forum integration. I would suggest looking at the flashchat MOD. It will do everything in one package(easier to install too).

Yeah, I think you are right. I don't comprehend all that you've said, but it seems that perhaps my host does not have the software to support this. I will try flashchat Mod. Thank you for the advice and help. :)

pirate: For whatever reason, the install script defaults all groups to "cannot use chat," you've gotta manually enable it for every group.

Okay, so over on my forum we decided to start using this (been using PJIRC for a while, but it was always separate). Well, okay, so the guy who pays the bills decided, and left it to me to make it work.

It works fine with everything, given a couple of changes. To get your site style to appear around it (loading the CSS, and such) without copying all your template folders (jebus, what a terrible idea...), all you need to do is move the main php file, "vbjirc.php" into your forum root index.

Once you do that, it'll stop working. To make it work again, edit the "vbjirc_java" template for your root style (or all styles if you don't do that), and change this:

<applet code="IRCApplet.class" archive="irc.jar,pixx.jar" height="$vbjirc[height]" width="$vbjirc[width]">

To this:

<applet codeBase="vbjirc/" code="IRCApplet.class" archive="irc.jar,pixx.jar" height="$vbjirc[height]" width="$vbjirc[width]">

Just the "codeBase" attribute is added, nothing else. It'll magically work, and you'll have your styles without copying them.

I've installed this nice plugin, and after heavy modification have fixed most of the common errors and everything appears to be running perfectly, except for one small problem.

When a registered user attempts to use it and their name ends in a letter or a number the client works fine and they can connect to the irc server, but if their name ends in something other than a number or a letter, such as a [ _ or . they will get a nick join error. Since they never actually fully connect to the server, they cannot change their nick.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/03/53.jpg

As you can see, logged in as Hunter_, I have a _ at the end of my name, and recieve that error. If I use something such as mIRC, having special characters at the end of my name works, so it must be something with JIRC.

Does anyone know what causes this and a way to fix it?

Great mod. Installed and running perfectly in a couple minutes with no modifications needed except configuring the options, giving the usergroups permission, and adding the link to the navbar.

If you have no idea what IRC is or how it is used, you should probably look for a different chat system for vBulletin.

Also, it works on vB3.7 RC1, you just have to do the template changes manually.

Generally that error message is something to do with the IRC server, rather than the script... Are you connecting with the EXACT same IRC server in mIRC (Not just on the same network), and are you sure that mIRC isn't automatically rewriting your nickname for you?

Same here! I did have it running on 3.7 Beta 4, haven't tried with RC1. When it was running it did require some modification to look 'neat' mind you.

hmm, would like to know more about the server load this application gives... anyone knows?

None. The only extra load will be the downloading of the applet to the browser rather than any processing, as Java is run clientside.

Hi, I realised that my vbjirc doesnt really work correctly. It is accessible via my homepage at www.lifecope.com but when I go to the other pages and click on the vbjirc chat icon, it doesnt direct to the correct page. I tried fiddling with the options in the vbulletin options and whether i enabled or disabled "If you facing problems with the links in navbar and footer eable this?", it doesnt work correctly. I hope you get what I mean.

I can confirm that this is 100% working on vB 3.7.0 Gold.

http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/

Click the Chatroom link on the top navbar to see the integrated chat. We also have a bot on the channel sending various data that aggregates at the bottom of the forums to give a "Chatters Online" section. It's quite possibly the niftiest chat integration, and I'm thankful that I have a member willing to run a bot forever and ever.

There should be almost zero server load for you. The java app runs on the users computer and connects to an IRC server which you are most likely not hosting.

Hi - is the a way to change the vbjirc chat on the bar to Chat?

trigatch4
09-30-2008, 08:06 PM
To change the name listed in the Navbar you can go to:

Languages & Phrases
Phrase Manager
Search For Phrase: IRC

Choose to edit the phrase named "vbjirc_productname" and edit it to just read "Chat" or whatever you want in your navbar.

trigatch4

My style didn't appear properly at first so I set "Style Image Correction" to "Yes". That only PARTIALLY fixed the problem. My logo/image appears in the header now but the header background image isn't set...

Where can I fix this within templates or files?

Is there an option so the users can't change their nick names and channels?

trigatch4
10-04-2008, 04:06 PM
@Matrix... you can do that within the IRC chat with the IRC code

To change Nick:
/nick NewNick
Where NewNick is the new nickname desired and forwardslash IS included

To enter in channel:
/join #channelname
Where channelname is the name of the channel to join and forwardslash IS included

For your users that may not be familiar with IRC I would just write these directions in HTML above or below that Java Chat Box within your pjIRC template.

sounds good ^^ thanks.

I am fairly new to IRC still and have been thinking of installing IRC on my server, however im not sure if IRC holds any problems running it on the server.

Is it safe and secure? can everything be logged and tracked? Is it easy to install? Is it easy on the server, or can it overload it?

Thanks.I have the same questions. This can overload the server?

You can't, really. I'm trying to figure out how to substitute an illegal character for a legal character. Like if someone's name is The Big Dog, remove the space and place an underscore so that it's The_Big_Dog. Anyone know how to do this?

^-- Generally the only way you would do this reliably is with some sort of irc bot (eggdrop/emech) in the channel that you have people join. I'm sure you could do it with the built in vBulletin "What is the current user doing" field but I doubt this would work, as generally people open a new window and then continue browsing the forum.

I run a heavily modified version of this mod, and one thing that others might find handy for connecting to certain IRC networks is removing all of the special characters out of peoples nicks.

It's easily done, just edit the pbjirc.php file, and find the "//get username" line, just below that, replace the existing "$vbjirc['username'] = " with this:

$vbjirc['username'] = substr(ereg_replace("[^+A-Za-z0-9]", "", $vbulletin->userinfo['username']), 0, 15);

That will remove anything that's not alphanumeric (Including spaces), and truncate the length of the username to 15 characters. Change the last 15 to what ever you want (If not 15, generally 9).
