E-Mail or PM on Paid Subscription

When a member pays for a subscription in our forums, they should get a PM and/or e-mail confirmation right away. Anything else seems very unprofessional. Any tips on how I can do this? I tried the Send PM on Paid Subscription (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=140566&highlight=send+pm+on+subscription) hack, but it did not work (did not send a PM to new subscribers).
