Jelsoft and the vBulletin community encourages you to create new features and hacks for vBulletin. However there are a few rules that should be followed. By following these rules customizing vBulletin will be easy for everyone.

vBulletin Lite hacks cannot be distributed.
Place all Hack Requests in the "Requests" forum. This will make it easy for hack writers to see what you want.
Before requesting a new hack or add-on be sure to search the forums to see if it has been done already.
Make sure to specify whether you want a Hack for 1.1.X or 2.0 when making your request. The code is not interchangeable.
When Releasing Hacks put them in the appropriate forum.
Post all Template changes in the vBulletin templates forum. This will make your enhancements easier to find and keep the forums clean.
Complete files from vB must not be posted. You may only post instructions for the user to change the file themselves.

Hacks are not template changes. Hacks are not questions on how to use a feature. Hacks are PHP code changes, nothing more and nothing less. If it can be done from the control panel it is not a hack.

Simple, easy and straight forward. This will keep everything easy to find and allow us to continue creating the best forums in the world.

one comment regarding searching before you ask. This forum has got to reindex search with min 3 characters and not 4 because some searches aren't gonna make it through :(

YES! please re-index with 3 characters, it is so annoying when i can't search for 4 letter words!

Does this mean I won't be able to post the upgrade script I've been working on, to transfer Lite posts to the full working version? ... I know there are a lot of people who are going to want this baby when it's done.

Matt, yes unfortunately that does mean that you cannot release your script. However, we do have our own importer in the works, so there is no need to worry there.

When we release v2.0 final, there should be a selection of import scripts available on request from the members area.

Well, I've got one that works. It's not as elegant as the one I'm sure you guys will come up with, but it does the job.

As this exchange shows, they are referring to hacks for the LITE version, which is specifically disallowed.

Oops, sorry, I have simply not registered the "Lite"

Hello Mods,

After embarrassing myself by posting vB source code I went back to this post to read the rules again. The rule about posting or attaching vB's source code is missing. Just thought I'd point that out. ;)

Also this is actually covered by the license agreement in that you are not allowed to redistribute vBulletin code.

Since vB.org is closed off to outsiders, that is to say, non vB customers are not able to download attachments. Couldn't original vB files be posted here? Why I'm asking is because foreign translations of the Admin/mod CPs could be posted here. I have already sent an Email to James about this, I just wanted to know your guys' point of view.

Hey Freddie,

Was John's decision made after the start of vB.org?

Yep it was. If you look back, you'll see that in the first couple of days after vB.org launched he posted saying no.
