Hello,

How about a way to attach more than one file.

I use the attachments field for images only...so it would be cool to allow for a minimum of 4 images per post.

I would really like to see that as well.
An perhaps to have it on a pop up, so if the user wants to attach more than one file he or she would click on a pop up and attach as many files as you let them ;)

I couldnt agree more! I have users all the time that have to post 5 times to get 5 images up. Doesnt make much sence

Also if you edit a thread with an attachment you can change or delete it, but if you edit one without an attachment, you cant add one. Thats kinda weird too :(

am disappointed too at lack of multiple attachment management. this would really be handy for me.

I think everyone would agree the attachment feature is lacking quite a bit. I do believe jelsoft plans on making it better in the next version though. At least i hope:p

VirtueTech Installed a multi attachment hack a year ago. Also why dig up something that was posted a year ago?

Because I hear of people who have the multiple file attachment mod but nobody has posted. Everyone just posts "Wait until vB3." (I saw this on multiple posts dated back in 2001!)

While that is fine and dandy that vB3 will have multiple attachments but some of us may not want to upgrade to vB3 due to all the mods installed. Also some of us may not want to wait until June/July or later of next year for a stable version of vB3 in order to install it.

Why not just release it?

Even if there's a pay one out there, if someone could point me into the right direction I'd be more than willing to put up a few dollars toward such a great and much needed mod. :)

Last post before mine in which I quoted was dated... "08-12-02 05:20 PM"

That's only a little over 3 months ago. ;)

I am also trying to hunt this hack down.

I have seen this hack work on several boards but havent been
able to find the code in the hacks list.

If these great code hackers on vb org could add the code to the hacks list it would be great :)

It seems like ALOT of people want to use this feature so why not share it with all of us who is desperate for this hack?

I am gonna get this installed either by someone who see this site as a place for sharing codes for us who dont undestand how to hack, or i will pay for it and find a code hacker that has the skills.

Whenever i get my hands on the code i will post it here and
add it to the hacks list.

I will try first and ask on a board i know that already have it installed and ask how much he want for it and then post the code for you guys.

That would be pretty sweet if you posted it.

I did see one site where a guy was trying to sell it for $100. But that's a bit ridiculous. I might pay $20 but not $100.

Here's that site:

$100?! thats a rip off... you can buy another damn vbulletin board and still have money left over! tell you the truth making this hack isn't that hard .. hell, i could do it .. problem is i don't have a lot of time at the moment.

Chen made a attachment hack for private messages, he's probably the only one that could do it since it will require some 1337 skills ;)

.. i doubt it'll be implemented into vb3 anytime soon.

it pisses me off to no extent that this hack has been requested by so many people and vb team have NOT added it, go to vbulletin.com and search for attachments and you'll see so many requests for it it's unreal. i still can't get over that threaded mode BS ... 5 people request a stupid threaded mode feature and it gets added... yet something as useful as multiple attachment doesn't get added despite the hundreds of request for it. they are only intrested in adding stupid things like a quick reply box with a million javascripts.

.. don't get me started, i'd better stfu ;)

Why is having multiple attachments in a post such a necessity? That's exactly why it wasn't added by the vb team.

most people like to make one post with 2 - 3 pictures and not having to post 3 times in a row to achieve that .. that is why, as you can see it is necessary for MANY vbulletin admins.

i like when my member upload pictures, but i do not like when they have to make 5 posts with 5 pictures.........

Exactly. Some people have picture forums, art gallerys ect.. ect.. ect.. Why post 10 posts with 1 attachment each when you can do it all at once in one simple post. :)

lol.. I feel ya.. I like the way vB runs and how fast it is but I'm almost debating on why I ever switched from phpBB. phpBB was almost as good and had alot of features my users requested that vB doesn't and it was FREE! All I care about is making my members happy. :)

*sigh* still no sign of vB3 and this hack is still much needed and requested. Any help would be appreciative. Hell, I'd be willing to fork over a few $$.. Just not $100! :D

no offence but you can't be more wrong.. Multi-attachment hack's algorithm looks pretty easy: Add a new field to attachments table and save postid there. So you'll be able to add any number of attachment in 1 post. However it's not that easy to make this integration in vb. There are tens of sections in many parts of vb to be changed dramatically. All vb code has been designed so that there is only 1 attachment per post so when you implement your new algorithm you need to deal with all existing functions and change them too, let alone attachment related parts like attachment moderation etc..

Even if somebody with a huge vb knowledge takes time and code all these modifications, it would be really hard to insall the hack as it would require many alterations in the code and it would be buggy for months until many people in different server hostings would test it and correct the bugs.

This is why this hack has not been done yet (despite many requests) and this is why AFAIK there is only one version and it's commercial. IMO it's very fair that the author of the code is charging for the script because I know very well how time consuming the hack would be. But I know even the commercial version has some bugs (which is quite normal because of the nature of this hack) and therefore I wouldn't install any MA hack (free or commercial) to my board unless I myself worked on it for a long time or Jelsoft includes it to vb by default.. However I read a devs comment somewhere and they say they have no intentions of adding this feature to VB3. So don't expect it be added in later releases of vb3 either as it requires a structure change as I mentioned.. Sorry for you if you waiting for it..

I dont understand how it could be so hard to do multi item attachments, but I also am fairly new to vbulletin.

Is there a hack instead which allows users to put multiple images directly into a post without using an attachment?

The attachment system within vb is a little complex to understand.. but if you are use to vb then it is easy..

Hmm, I may possibly be b***hing about paying for a software that does not have the options that most FREE softwares do. Please excuse us for paying for a software that does not fully meet our expectations.

Since Freddie has integrated the feature into vb3, all you need is some patience for its release :)
