View Full Version : Review Hack

I have been looking around for a good script which allows users to submit reviews of products, services, and stores. Nothing looks very good and most are not very customizable. I saw a nice hack for ubb which has alot of very good features. For example, every product is given a bunch of different catigories to rate it .... 0 - 10. I then takes an average of everyones reviews and prints out a nice graph. Of course, only members would be able to submit a review, but anyone can view then.

Heres an example: http://www.audiomarket.com/survey/test/ReviewBoard.cgi

If no one wants to work on this..... maybe you could point me in the right direction and I will give it a shot.

Thanks,

I supose that no one is interested in this hack, so I will work on it myself as soon as vb2 is finally released. Could some one share a little insight as to how I should go about this?

Thanks.

That one looks pretty good.... wish it was in PHP. Here is the best one that I have found and it has been integrated into vb. I don't think that the owner has ever released it though.

I had the pleasure to speak with a representative of this site...since I was interested in the code. He wanted me to post this here for any other VB users interested in their code:

At this time it is not within our best interest to release or sell the code for this script. This is for several reasons. One being that it is coded for our system, but the other more important one, in our view, is that it is a key element on our site, which allows us to offer a unique service.

Sorry and I hope you find something or are able to have something coded which will meet your needs.

Its looks kinda nice, but it is very basic. I would want to be able to have lots of different categories to rate a product on.

For example if some one wants to rate a VCR. I would want the make, model number, and brief description to be included first. The there should be a few different categories to rate it on such as build quality, consmetics, remote control, etc. Then there should be a place for otehr comments. The ratings from all the categories should be averaged to give an over all rating.

Each product category should have its own set of ratings categories. Obviously you would rate a VCR differently than a piece of furnature. I am not at the point where I could come up with this kind of code yet, but I am working on it. Hopefully someone else with better knowledge of PHP/MySQL could come up with something a little sooner, cuz god knows when I will ever be good enough!!!

Check out our new Censura script, available at http://www.incursio.com.

It integrates nicely with existing vBulletin communities. It supports multiple (configurable) rating categories per "item" category, as well as things like unlimited nesting of item categories, etc.

Cheers.

Yeah, I have been following your progress. It sounds pretty good, but for $150 I want to see it in use on a few sites before I make a decision. The screen shots look good, but I want to see an actual example. This is just a hobby for me and I don't make any money from it ... although I spend plenty of it.... so I don't know if I would be willing to pay that much for it at this point.

Are there any sites currently using it?

<a href="http://forums.realwebhost.net/forumdisplay.php?forumid=104" target="_blank">Check Out</a> we might be able to adapt this, just go there and fill out a new review and then preview it, see what you think

Since we just launched it - no :) However, the first few sites will be bringing up soon. We'll have a site showcase on the incursio site that you can visit soon.

Cheers.

the only thing I found close to Amazon was..

http://www.randommouse.com/magpie/

I truely think if I had the time.. I could make a script or site up like amazon.com

but it would take me a couple of months or more to make it look like I would want .. let along what every one else would want lol

Brad, i'm looking for something simple, like:

Thumbnail | Category | Title | Publisher | Description | Amazon Price | fatbrain.com price | other sites prices | Rating | Reviews

e.g

Thumbnail | Programming | PHP | Ruth | blah blah | $35 | $39 | ... | **** | add/read reviews

it can be customized to change the column options and add more, the prices are linked and updated manually to the site for commission when someone clicks on it (or automatically if there is a way for it)

it would be nice also to add it to vBportal ;)

by the way, is this something simple? :o
