Hello...

I have been running the vB s/w for about 5 months now and only have about 130 or so members...

Well, lately I (and others) have noticed a LOT of lag. I contacted Go Daddy (the hosting company) and they are telling me nothing is wrong on their end.

It does run better in the early morning (faster posts, etc) so that would tell me it is a lag issue, but I was reading through several threads trying to find something on optimizing the tables via the AdminCP.

Is there a consensus that optimizing the tables might help out things?
Is there anything I need to do to run these safely? (I am not very SQL savvy)
I would do a backup and turn off the site before hand, but anything else?

Thanks!

oh yeah, forgot to ask. how long does it usually take to optimize the tables if it is a rather small forum?

I suggest looking for a better host than GoDaddy... It sounds like another example (not like we need anymore) as to why to not use them...

Do you have any recommendations? And is it hard to transfer the site over to another host? Like moving the DB, etc?

No, most reliable hosts will help you out with that if you have any problems.

I suggest www.jaguarpc.com as I have been on them for about a year and have not had a single problem in which we were unable to resolve in a timely manner. Very good, support, and the price isn't bad.

thank you da420...

But back the optimizing table thing....in the meantime, do you think that would help me at all?

No, optimising your tables will not help a lot in most cases.
