What is it?
-gWoWChar is a modification for vBulletin which allows you to display popup World of Warcraft character information in your forums posbit.

valueI use my released mods daily, if I find an issue with them or add features for myself I will release updates. If there are significant bugs or simple feature requests I will do my best to release fixes. Some of my mods rely on fetching data from 3rd party websites, due to the unreliable results, my mods will require users to troubleshoot for themselves if they find the addon is not working for them specifically. I am offering my personal mods that work ok for me for you to use, I am sorry I do not have time to troubleshoot many user specific issues. Thank you for your understanding.

*Edit: I am not sure what is causing this, the html that should be inserted into your postbit is nothing like what my templates look like.

Do you have some mod that changes the templates or anything?

Just uploaded v1.10, it now displays the links on the users profile and you can optionally change the display so it looks a little less cluttered.

I installed without any errors in the installation. However when I look at my forums all the threads and posts aren't showing. I created the profile fields and inserted the code for the postbits. I'm not sure what else to do, if I disable gWoWChar, all the threads will show.

the postbit is a little edited, i did manualy add the $wowchar_menu to the default style and was testing with that style. none of the threads were viewable in any style heres the link to the website www.moskrayt.org/forums

I'm having the same problem with just text being outputted. Nothing shows up on my user posts, just in the profiles.

I used a template I bought and then slightly modded.

Yeah, I realized that when some EU characters put in their profiles. I think I have it fixed for the next version. I always have trouble with character encoding :)

I'm a bit confused here, i uploaded the files, installed the XML product into Product manager, i can see my text field i created just fine. The question is, when you say "gwowchar config" to enter your field25 that you use for example, where the heck is that at? I enter the information and nothing shows up, im assuming it doesnt know which profile field to pull from.

Well you need to create a user profile field, and then see what number it is and then use that number in the config. field25 is just an example of the number format you are looking for, yours may be field15 or field679, you have to look at your profile field manager to find the id.

You need to set Automatically Insert to No in order for manual insert to work.

Hi BlackJack, first of all congrats for a wonderful hack, I installed it on my board (http://forum.computergames.ro/95-world-warcraft/270302-wow-character-profil.html) as well, but recently I've run into a little problem.

Everything is displayed as expected, but the links in postbit don't work, just the Profile ones. The menu is displayed correctly under the user reputation, but when you click on the char link nothing happens, it's like the URL field is empty. However, if you try to access the same Armory char link from the User Profile, it works as advertised.

I tried to reinstall the hack, but the end result is the same.

Any thoughts?

P.S: another weird thing is that if I set the Automatically Insert option to No and manually put the $wowchar_menu in the postbit, the menu is displayed, but if I switch the option to Yes, the menu doesn't show up anymore.

Looks like everything is ok, however something is modifying the links to insert the urchinTracker onclick. I am not sure if this is what is interfering with the clicking of the links, but seems like a likely culprit.

Regarding adding $wowchar_menu manually and clicking Yes, I am sure it might cause some issue as it wasn't intended to be used in that manner. It would probably try and add a second $wowchar_menu which probably messes with vBulletin's javascript or your urchinTracker insert thing.

However, everything looks fine for the most part on your install accept for the urchinTracker insert.

k I managed to install this... but when you click on the wow characters link, there are no images in the drop down, nor in the profile... so it doesnt show the images at all anywhere...

Make sure you upload the images to your styles misc directory. I can not assume what your directory would be named, so I have only included the default directory.

I got this installed but it's not showing on the posts display (postbit), only via Profile viewing.

I think I may have changed something in postbit and so it won't show (the option is selected).

Could you tell me what the code is to insert into postbit so I can do it manually where I want please?

Hopefully if you tell me that I will be able to learn more about deciphering xml files to do things like this on my own in future.

The code is only generated when the default posbit is displayed, trying to use it anywhere else will not work.

I have been busting my head with this... for a while today... No matter where I put it it wont show in Postbit. It works perfectly in Postbit legacy, but not in postbit.

I have made a test account for my site:

I seem to have a problem, I installed this uploaded the images made the feild, edited the options Manually put in the code to both postbit and postbit legacy and tried it on my Admin account...nothing...In fact if you go to the profile for me I have this showing up under my name

The user profile will display like that currently, I have not made updates to fix that for the changes that were made to latest versions of vBulletin. However, I do see that you got the postbit working.

I could be wrong in my assumption of what this hack would do, but I have the mod working on my profile but it seems only I can see it. Other members try to view it and the mouseover link at the bottom of my postbit doesnt appear for them.

Was this intended for the persons own personal use? If so I think thats kinda silly, I figured the point was to have easy access to your guilds character info with a simple click.

Ok, to clarify my problem some it might appear to be an issue with the users browser and or firewall settings.

At first I thought it might be a permissions error as it was only seeming to work for admins but then a few other members of the forums tried it in IE and it worked fine. Firefox seems to be the culprit however I use firefox and it works for me.

Could anyone possibly verify, confirm this and maybe let me know what I need to have them change or change or our site etc?

Finger78, it hooks the Reputation display to show up on the posbit when using auto insert. I suppose, if you have display permissions set on reputation it could affect postbit menu. However, manual insertion should work fine. It should not be browser dependant, it uses the same popup menu system as all other vbulletin menus.

nykshawn, the posbit display portion of the mod should work just fine in 3.6.7, it is working ok for me.

Well, the mod actually worked for what it was primarily meant to be used for, the postbit. However, fixes have been made for the profile display now.

hi! i would LOVE to use this mod on our guild page. the only problem is that our host does not allow a high version of PHP so we have to use the vb 3.5.x series (spefically the 3.5.7) instead of 3.6.x. is there anyway possible that you could please tell me how to get this hack to work with 3.5.7? please oh please with a cherry on top ^_^

That is not a php version error, that is a vBulletin version error. This mod require vBulletin 3.6.7 and you are probably using 3.5 as `executionorder` was introduced in version 3.6.

You can try this addon (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=134603) which allows you to install 3.6 version addons on 3.5 version boards.

For anyone else that has trouble finding out where to place your images, the exact path for placing the images are found by the following:

Right-click on your header image and go to properties. The exact path to your header is usually something like:

yourdomain/forumname/images/misc/etc...

Wherever that header file is at, you need to create a folder called gwowchar and then place the images in there. As stated somewhere in one of the threads here, everyone's styles are different.

There wasn't any documentation on the main addon about this. What would be easier is having an vboption setting for the image path so that we can place the files anywhere we'd like. Otherwise, everything looks good.

You don't need ajax to accomplish that, though it could be used. The default vBulletin profile field manager has a regular expression field for pattern matching. I just don't know the regex offhand to put in there, I will look into this.

if you want to force people to input the correct format of text copy and paste the following line into the Regular Expression box

Not quite sure what you want, but the Armory has your guilds full roster. There are rosters available, but they require WoW addons to populate the data, wowroster.net. I am very slowly working on one that is based solely on the armory data.

I am not sure why it doesn't show up for some, but since it does exact pattern matching in your templates in order to be placed right it can easily not work right.

To insert it manually, disable auto insert in the gWoWChar settings and then edit your postbit or postbit_legacy template (whichever you are using) and place $wowchar_menu where you want the menu to show up, like near your avatar code or post count.

I was in the boat with the other people who know absolutely nothing about php code and when they went to put it into the postbit failed and had no idea on how to or where to.

Some extra information to help you - he literally means put the text $wowchar or whatever it was where you want it, and no other text. The code is that one word thing with the $ sign infront of it.

Also, I don't know if this is true in all cases, but for me I had to try putting it after multiple things and it only showed up sometimes. I believe that if you put it after something like "reputation" and you have reputation turned off, it turns this off also. Try putting it after something you know exists on your postbit already.

The drop menu should appear wherever you place $wowchar_menu. I am running several boards on 3.6.8 and it is working ok. I am unsure why this is happening for some people. Without some dissection and troubleshooting from the user, I am not sure what I can do to help.

I've got this installed, and the postbit portion is working; however, there seems to be a problem with the Armory links. When clicking on the drop-down menu of a character, I get the following message:

is it possible to change the hack a little bit. I want to use the hack for my guild
and currently have the following.

1. One Textfield where the mainchar name is stored
2. One Multiple Textfield where the Twinks are stored. Each name in a single line.

Because all the guild chars are on the same server and realm I want like to see something like this:

Change:
Location|Realm|Faction|Playername

to:
Fixed Location|Fixed Realm|Fixed Faction|field1+field2

Example:
EU|Frostwolf|Alliance|content singleline text field + content multiline text field.

I would just like to post that after installing this mod and starting to see my guild members get set up that I love it. It's nice and compact in the postbit, it functions nicely and seems to cause very little overhead. Definitely a must for any WoW-centric VB boards who don't prefer (like EJ) to just have one character laid out in the postbit.

I found that turning off the template indicators (it's a setting in the admincp somewhere) fixed that. vBulletin can out put where different templates start and end to help with debugging, and it interferes with this mod.

Ok here is what I found if I add it after the user rank line it works. I have to go to each style and edit it to add the $wowchar_menu after

For those having trouble with the postbit not showing up.

If you set the profile field to 'private', which seems logical since it's just data AND you don't have the usergroup permissions set to view private fields, the postbit will not show up. You can have rep enabled or not, doesn't seem to matter, but if the field is private and users don't have permission to view others private fields, it won't show.

Other than that it's a great mod and works fine. I added the regex from earlier and will see how well it works to ensure users are getting the right format.

I'd like to see a 'enable for all forums' option, rather than having to list every forum separately. I know this is the opposite of what what asked for by someone else earlier, but I see no reason to hide it in a specific forum.

Found the fix: If you have problems with accented chars translating to %7E on the url's, go edit settings of the language you're using and set the character encoding to UTF-8.
