PM members before their account upgrade expires?

I have a couple of boards where members can upgrade their accounts. It seems that their accounts are being downgraded without any warning at all. It would be proper to send them a PM/Email prior to their account being downgraded to let them know that the features will be reverted soon. The biggest issue is that they have a full PM inbox and then all of a sudden they cannot receive more PMs because their account has been restored to the regular member level.

FYI -I am running 3.5.x for both of these boards.

Does anyone know of a hack/plugin that does this?
Is this a standard feature in a later version of vBulletin?

so when someone's subscription basically expires? I might be able to do some integration with that in my latest hack released. Good idea
