What this hack does?
This hack adds members to your online list from your already registered users.

How will I arrange the total users?
Admin Control Panel > Fake Users > Add Member > You can increase or decrease the number.

What should I do for the Guest Number?
Admin Control Panel > Fake Users > Visitors> You can increase or decrease the number.

I don't think this is a very good idea. What if everyone knows a member cannot be online (on vacation or something) I think members will notice it quickly, good for new boards maybe but even then...

Also, can you make it so that users with a certain email address will not come online when the hack is enabled? Reason for this, I enabled registrations from the same email address to create some extra user to inflate my member lists. I used the same email address for all of them.

Being able to control which users come online through the email address is a good way to prevent real members from coming online via the mod.
I installed and tried this and the mod did bring up some of my real members, which is bad for business. This will help to avoid any real members from spotting their user names on the board even if they are not online.

You can change this in the control panel.
Remove the active members option by changing it to zero.
Go to my forum and you will see that I only have members listed on the what's going on box.
Threads: 2,563, Posts: 4,028, Members: 692
That solves your problem.
Go to admincp --> vbulletin options --> forum home page options --> then look for "Active Members Time Cut-Off"
Set it to zero and enjoy!

It's very nice, I wish this hack could show usergroup colors though.
A few things I would also like to see is:

1. Add remove users from the list at random(improve realism).
2. Assign no. of fake users by range ( ex: 10 - 50 ).
3. Enter a time(range) for username redistribution (ex: 5 - 45 Mins) for shuffle. (see no.2)
4. Make compatible with usergroup colors.

imo this could greatly enhance the realism of this hack and make it a tremendous help to forum owners.

one small issue. If users click on a link of one of the currently active users, they'll transfered to the users memberinfo and there they can see the "real" last activity option.

Your hack should fake this also for the time being or?

Ok, I know this is not my modification, but this guy has not updated in a long time and I've managed to find a temporary fix to a big problem involving this modification.


As it stands, this modification when installed, shows all members in usegroup 2 (registered members) as being online in the "what's going area." Although this is a grand idea, a problem arises when actual members see their username online while they are not online. This could actually harm your forum, I think. So to alleviate this problem, you have to edit this modification a little bit.

I chose to edit this mod using notepad and this is what I did.

Open the .xml file using notepad and look for the following code:"user WHERE usergroupid = '6'

Mine says '6' because I tested this with the admins at my forum, but your .xml file will display usergroup 2.

It is obvious that this modification already functions on usergroup permissions, so what you have to edit is the usergroup id that you want to appear online. Usergroup id 2 is for actual members, so if I were you, I would create a whole new usergroup just for this modification alone and place the id in the appropriate location in the .xml file and then upload it to your admincp.

This should not be difficult as most of us already have fake users in our admincp, I know I do and I'm sure you do too.

Notice: this slight update from me only addresses that one problem. I'm currently looking at other means of updating the others issues surrounding this modification, even though it is not mine.

This modification is just too good to let it "sit here and rot."


There you have it, one problem, slightly fixed.

Ok,

First, make sure you upload the product "fake users" into your admincp. Once you get this one, it will update the templates automatically, usually upon installation.

Then, once you installed it, go into your admincp again, but this time go to the "option" and here where you will look for the product "fake users" among the list of other things in your vb.

In case you dont know, the options tab is where you can find your site's name, censorship options and all kinds of useful information.


It is here, where you fill edit how many users you want to appear online.

it works, but to a degree. it lists the members in the current active users box (whats going on box) but when you actually click on the link to view where they are, they are not listed.

If you want the online list to display users from multiple user groups

Find:

user WHERE usergroupid = '2'

Replace with:

user WHERE usergroupid = '2' OR usergroupid= 'xx'

Changing each xx to your usergroup id.

Keep adding OR usergroupid= 'xx' for every usergroup you want to add.

It works perfectly. The only problem is that the active members rotate, so... if someone really paid attention to it... they might figure it out. The vistor part works perfect.

Oh, and if you want a random number of users online and guests online, just modify the code to pick a random number of online and guests from the number you specify in the vbulletin options

To randomise the number of online members to show between zero and the number you input in the vbulletin options -> Fake Users

Go to AdminCP -> Plugin Manager -> Fake Users (forumhome_complete) -> Edit

For number of online members:

FIND


$xsayi1 = $vbulletin->options['xfakemn'];


REPLACE WITH


$xsayi1 = rand(0, $vbulletin->options['xfakemn']);


For number of online guests:

FIND

$numberguest = $numberguest + $vbulletin->options['xfakemv'];


REPLACE WITH

Remember to choose a range of numbers that will look realistic.
A random number of users between 30 and 40 is more realistic than two members online one minute and a full hundred the next ;)

Unfortuantely after installing I found 2 things. First the members I added don't show in the "who's online page" thus it's obvious they aren't in the forum. The second is that I have colored usergroups for all members and the added users come up with no colors..thus also a problem. I might install it if these issues can be fixed.

I meant where your php files are stored that are used for CMPS templates to display.

Actually, the file changed between v2.2.x and v3.0 so I've no idea how it should work in 3.0
Technically you should just be able to paste that code I wrote above somewhere in the middle of the file (you'd need to know a little bit about the brackets in code to make sure you're placing it in a good place).

I agree, this is necessary. If my members start seeing themselves logged in when they are not they would think they're account was hacked or something and it would create more problems than it would solve.

I agree, but the fake accounts don't show up in the ' Total members that have visited the forum today' legend, and when people click the Currently Active Users - the fake accounts don't show up. In other words, the jig is up.

Otherwise, great idea for a hack.

I have it working on vB 3.8.4 @ the Modern Warfare 3 (http://www.mw3-forum.com) forum, but the users online lists now shows two commas (, ,) as opposed to one. How do I reduce this back down to one?
