Need a managed dedicated server that can hold a consistent 300 people on a forum with peaks of around 400 - 500 people on at once.

I run several vBulletin forums and believe I am running out of room on my current shared hosting plan. I currently have around 150 people on at once, but want room to grow.

I run four vBulletin sites, but intend to make a couple more big ones.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I posted over at webhostingtalk, but all the people that post there try and get you to sign up with their crappy host so they can make money off of you.

Any ideas on companys / price I might be looking at?

im not sure if they have ded servers or not but i would check at knownhost, they are imho the best hostign company out there. There support team is awesome. And when you file a ticket they respond within a hour almost everytime even on sunday mornings or sat nights.

Check out softlayer.com for dedicated servers on affordable prices.

I have a cluster of 12 dedicated servers with two unmetered 10Mbps pipes at www.iweb8.com - price/quality is the best on the market. It's been already 5 years with them...

For a board i manage we use the following:

Server: 2xOpteron246/4G/4x36gigRaid10, configuration optimised
vBulletin: 3.6.4
Concurrent online users: 500-1000, with peaks up to 2.000 with still good response
Around 600 forums ()

Hosted at http://www.joltdigital.com/

How much does that cost you a month? I assume that I could easily get by with something a little lower than what you have now though. And you said you have 600 forums? Dang, is that like a free forum host you're running on there or something?

I'll check out soft layer as well.

I will not eloborate on the price.

If you have less concurrent users, then you could get away with a smaller configuration, i only posted this config as a reference.

Nope, 1 board, just a lot of (sub)forums showing on the forumhome.

I contacted them and they said they aren't really taking in any new customers.

So I'm looking at softlayer and layeredtech now

I would strongly recommend Tranquil Hosting. Mark will even move your forum for you. Prices are competitive, but nobody can touch his customer service. http://www.tqhosting.com/

I've been using one of their servers for about 3 months now, and I am still quite impressed with the service. And the prices aren't bad for what they give.
