Hoping someone can help me. I've placed my question in this forum as this issue only seems to have arisen since I have moved hosts, however I am unable to work out why it occurs.

On my site (http://www.weareleeds.com) which is running vBulletin v3.5.3, if a user wishes to have a custom avatar, they can only do so by uploading one to the server (which they do in (./profile.php?do=editavatar)

This works perfectly well, however should they wish to link to an image hosted elsewhere, the page times out and does not complete the process and has even generated a few server errors.

As I said, this used to work when I hosted the website myself, but now that I am hosting elsewhre this issue has arisen. The hosts are very flexible and are willing to help but I need to try idenitify the cause of the issue.

If I have placed the question in the wrong forum then apologies and point me in the right direction. If anyone is able to offer any guidance, or indeed pin-point the problem, I would be very grateful for the assistance.

vBulletin doesn't allow external avatars. Even if they use the URL option to specify an avatar, it still copies the image to your server and serves it from there.

But, if it worked on your previous server, then your new server probably has a PHP option turned off that allows downloading a file from a URL. Ask your host to set this option: allow_url_fopen to 1.
