View Full Version : Mini Mods - AutoBump Threads Periodically For 12 Hours Without Replies.

A new version has been released for vBulletin 3.7. It still works with vB 3.6 and vB 3.5
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=181305This modification will simply bump all threads which have no replies after 12 hours.

Every 30 minutes a cron script will run and check for threads with no replies that were posted in the last 12 hours. It will then bump all of those threads by modifying the Last Post time to the current time. It will not modify the "thread creation time" so threads will only be "auto-bumped" once. No "bumping" will occur for any threads with 1 or more replies.

This helps ensure that topics that have gone without replies get a second chance before they are forever lost to the abyss of the 2nd page of the thread listing. :D

Requested by dutchbb here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=130560

If you wish to customize just modify the file autobump_cron.php and change the line:

$time=time()-43200;

Simply modify the number 43200 to whatever time period to want the "cutoff" for bumping old threads to be.

You can also change the times when the Cron runs by going into vBulletin Scheduled Tasks and changing the crontimes for autobump_cron.

Enjoy, and click install if you want. (Such a small mod... but still)

Great mod!

Wouldn't it be possible to build in something to exclude certain forums for bumping posts? :)

Right now this is literally 1-2 lines of code. :) I just coded it to fulfill a request (only took literally 5 minutes to make it and prepare the product for upload).

When I get a chance I will add some more options.

@ projectego: thanks, imo every board should have this!
@ Attilitus: Great work, thanks a lot :)

So if a post should be dead and no one posts it will be bumped every 12 hrs?

For the first 12 hours of a Thread's life a check will be performed every time the Cron is run (currently every 30 minutes) to see if it has any replies. If it has no replies it will be bumped, if it has a reply then nothing will be done.

After 12 hours (you can change this by modifying the autobump_cron.php file), if the thread still has no replies, the Cron script will stop bumping it and let it die.

Now that I'm using it, i think these are essential functions that need to be added:

- exclude (or better include) a list of forum ID's
- exclude closed and soft-deleted topics

Hopefully these can be added some time :)

Is is possible to use this in only one forum?
And when a thread has only one post, how can the last-post date be different then the make-post date?

Can you still do this Attilitus? Can't really use it without those options because mods complain about old topic reports being bumped.

That would be great if we can:

- turn off/on the mod
- Set the forums we want it active in
- have a field in the admincp, to edit the time to be bumped.

Couple suggestions. :D Thank you. Installed.

I was just wondering, when it starts "bumping" does the New Post icon come up or does it stay as No new reply?

It's been bumping 0 reply threads repeatedly on this site: www.explorerforum.com/forums
