<u>Advanced Notice </u>
A number of small updates (and some internal changes) are planned for Jan 31st - the site will be closed while these take place. The downtime should be less than an hour, and will be around 10pm uk time (which I believe is 5pm Eastern US Time).
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

What kind of work are you talking about here exactly? Probably some new features on the forum?

As Paul already mentioned small updates and internal changes - you will know specifics after we are done with the update and reopen the site. :)

On a wensday is fine :)
Whenever there are edits done to vB.org such as minor changes the board always has to be turned off?

I think this will be just a securtiy measure.
One hour without vb.org wouldn't be that hard than one hour without internet ;)

Well I spotted an "uninstall" link beneath thread titles in the mods area :DThat's always been there (but see below).
MOTM
Mods in the current motm vote will not be eligable for nomination for the next month - this is to prevent the same mods appearing month after month. Once the vote has finished, they can be nominated for the following month again - e.g. if Mod 'XX' is nominated in February, and appears in the March vote, it cannot be nominated during March (for Aprils vote). Once April is reached, it can be nominated again for Mays vote. You can nominate as many mods as you like during the month.
Modification thread listings
Where mods are listed as threads (like in searches, forum listings, list my installed hacks etc) the "Mark as Uninstalled" link has now been converted to use AJAX, so it won't redirect you into the thread anymore. Also, for any mods listed as "Updated" - you can click on the word "Updated" and it will update the database, meaning the mod is no longer listed as updated to you.
User Titles
The new points based system has being installed, with associated new titles. A members points take into account various factors involved with modifications (not just installs). A members points are not directly visible - in fact there are only three visible titles - Coder, Designer, and Coder/Designer. You only need one point to be a coder or designer (or 1 point of each for the joint title). Everyone will also have a "Release Level" based on their total points - the more points you have, the higher your release level - an indication of how much you have released (and how popular your work has become). Hovering over the user title will show what level people have reached.
Every coder/designer will also have an individual coder and designer release level, viewable by displaying the coder or designer list.
The rest of the changes were internal system and permission changes (so not visible), partly to tidy up old code and odd permission settings, and partly to add some things needed for later in the year.

Nice list Paul :)
(as for the uninstall thing - I only saw it about two mins before you closed down LOL and I've been surfing the site most of the day, hacking my other half's site to death - and it hadn't showed up before... strange)
I think the user titles things are not really good

Demoted! ;)
I like 'em. The previous ones were very misleading, and I also like how they are combined now! Good job guys.

I don't think that's of much use to them if you don't say why.
Thanks for the changes, great stuff. The new user title system is better without a shadow of a doubt, but the tooltip display is possibly a bit subtle.
viewable by displaying the coder or designer list.

Is this a mod that has already been released? If not, will there be a release of it? I like the whole promoting on points idea...I've been thinking about this for a long time and thought that the vbbux/vbplaza had something similar to that but you had to buy the new ranks...which I didn't like. I like the automatic promotion decided by points (which would work well with the rep and thanks mod IMO; that way people don't always rank up just by posting...they can post very little but help a lot of people with certain posts/tutorials).

It's all custom vb.org code, which I'm afraid will not be released.
Just to answer a couple of questions - peoples points, on which the levels are based, come from a quite complicated calculation that takes into account many factors, including number of releases, number of installs, motm, ratings and even vb version. Each level is twice as hard to reach as the previous level (i.e. you must double your points to rise a level).

The user title system was changed; in short, we now have 'Release Levels' that are based on multiple factors (even more than the previous system.)
If you hover over your user title, you will see you have a Release Level of 7.

I miss being known as a master coder. Something needs to be done with the level stuff. I Like the idea of having it either after the title in parenthese or under the title. But the alt text style display isnt very Useful.

Having it under the title will not work in the standard postbit, or other places (like PM postbit, articles, member profile).

Does that makes sense?.. If it works in an alt="" parameter, then it will work outside of the tag, too.

Not in all locations - it breaks the formatting in some of places (such as the main hack post, announcements, and staff posts).
