View Full Version : above and beyond. the ultimate garage hack.

i used to run phpbb before i made the switch over to vB. ill admit its a HUGE improvement i love vB.
i run a car based website for japanese/import cars. when i was running phpbb there was a garage hack that was UNBELIEVEABLE it had everything from top car to what insurance company you used here is the link http://forums.phpbbgarage.com/garage.php
it also had a 1/4 mile table that would sort in order of fastest and you were able to post pics of your actual timeslip. if someone was very bored and wanted to create the 'ultimate garage hack' this would be the one. if anyone feels up to it i would LOVE to see this hack done. and i know with it being on vB it would run faster and perform better.
thanks in advance.
i talked to the creator of this hack and he said its coded in gpl. if anyone is interested into switching it over to vB he has no problem. i could get the needed files if anyone wants to take a stab at it.

he has an update to the new hack it can be found here. he is willing to give up the phpbb code to someone who is willing to convert it to vB. if i had any idea i would do it.
im guessing there is no takers on this?

I know of a few people subscribed to that thread waiting for its completion and willing to support it. We recently switched from IPB to vB and our community really wants a garage again but I don't like what is available - waiting for this, but hoping it is sooner rather than later (not pressuring, I know the deal).

I'm anything but a php guy - I actually came over from IPB. phpbbgarage is probably the only thing 'superior' that phpbb has going for it, it is very well done.
But in your defense, there are a lot of people who ask for a garage without doing a search first :)

phpgarage is actually just a port of the Fusion Scripts Garage module (http://www.fusionscripts.com/products/ports/). Do a search for Fusion Scripts on here, and you will find that I mentioned this quite awhile ago. I had actually talked to one of the vB programmers (can't remember his name off the bat, but he is the one who does all the vBGallery mods), and he was looking into porting it for vB. He actually had even been in contact with the Fusion Script developers and got their permission to port it over. This was probably a year or so ago, so I'm not sure if he ever made any progress.
On a side note, and I know I've mentioned this before... the mod is already out there, but the sites that have it don't seem to want to share.

You should just be able to DL the package from the phpbbgarage website (www.phpbbgarage.com). The original module by Fusion Scripts was done for Invision Power Board (IPB), so not sure which would be the easier one to port.

As I stated above, it is a vB port of the Fusion Scripts garage module, just as the phpbbgarage is. The problem is, is that the admins of dodgetalk and fordforums are not willing to share the code with others (as I have emailed both and not recieved replies).

With all of this interest it is beyond me why someone will not do it - I've even attempted to hire several individuals to take on the project. I would still mention that the product is basically out there already (Fusion Scripts mod) and Zacariah (sp?) has permission from them to port it over to vBulletin. As was done with the phpBB version, it can then be modified from there. I could be wrong, but I would think it would be easier to start off with a base setup and convert it to function with vB than to start from scratch. But I am all for it and am willing to help out wherever I can.

Yeah, the sad part is people are still trying to get the timeslip database up and running. They have even gotten someone to "upgrade" it to vB3.7 for like $200 or something. Pretty sad, actually, as the timeslip database is so basic compared to the garage module. Maybe one of these years, I'll get a chance to start working on my port of it....

The timeslip db should actually be incorporated into whatever garage is made, it shouldn't be that difficult to add another section to someone who is skilled.

Operational and working great. The support from the developer is great too. There has been a few bugs, I mention it to the developer and he has it fixed within a couple hours/posted for everyone to download a new version. Every version I download, comes with a few extra features too. Members love it and within a day, already had 20 vehicles created by Premium Members (paid group access only), I didn't even need to say anything about it either! I'll say great work!!! Now I have an announcement on the home page. Members love it since we had it with phpBB but lost it after going to vBulletin. Love vBulletin but it was lacking that garage feature which we now have and love!!! :)
Great modification!!! HIGHLY recommended for ANYONE who has any type of automotive/vehicle type forums/site.

yes we've got it going at www.qldsupraclub.com/forum/garage.php as well (must be a member to use) and it's coming along nicely
it's still early days for the product (as the developer admits) but his enthusiasm and keenness to fix problems and investigate the options that people want is excellent..
it's not a 1:1 copy of phpGarage/Fusion Scripts, but it's a damn good product .. well worth checking out..

This is one great product, I am using it for bikes and could not have asked for a better product to make some slight changes to names of off you go, this product would adapt to any type of garage you wanted, drag cars, racing cars, racing bikes etc...
As this product is in it's infant stages, you will find the gargage doesn't appear that way, and the support that is offered by the coder is 110%.
Take a look for yourself, http://www.bikesandscooters.com.au/forum/garage.php , I will be making some dark button soon, but layout etc is very good.
