**Before Making An Add on **

Please visit the forum for SR Classifieds at vBClassified.com (http://www.vbclassified.com/). The forum is open to discuss issues as well as to provide a place for coders to share their work. By posting there, it will make it easiser for me to monitor the logic and try to ensure that hacks being posted are as safe as possible.

**About This Script **

What does this do?
This hack gives you a classified ad system. Multiple categories can be created and users can post ads in these categories. Other users can then rate them and give them feedback accordingly.

What features does this hack provide?

Main page with statistics, categories, recent activity, etc.
Ability to arrange ads in categories
Categories can have their own images
See how many total, closed, and open ads are in each category.
Ratings and category counts are automatically rebuilt
After the timeframe of the ad is up, the ad is closed
Add new classified ads with images, description, title, and more!
Users have their own page where feedback and such shows.
Paypal button is automatically generated if the user enters a paypal email address. Clicking this button will allow the user to buy whatever the other user is selling.
Add extra fields to ads
Ability to edit and delete ads
Control everything from the amount of results showing per page in searches, to the size of thumbnails.
GIF, JPG, and PNG images are supported.
Search through ads

6 Easy Steps
Step 1. Import the following product: product-sr_classifieds.xml
Step 2. Upload the files in the upload folder.
Step 3. CHMOD the sr_classifieds/uploaded folder and sr_classifieds/uploaded/thumbnails folder to 777

Step 5. Update newly added usergroup permissions and options

I will be posting instructions on how this script can be used on 3.5.x. forums later this evening. In short, this script was cleaned up and exported frp a 3.6.x. forum and to run this on a 3.5.x. forum need to create an execution order table in your pluggins table.

1) I bought the original full version from the con artist known as Gio that sold the rights to the script to you. Do you have anything in place for people that bought the old script but got nothing?

2) Does this remove all the bugs that Gio never did and does it remove old adverts once they are closed after so long or does the DB constantly grow with old and closed adverts?

What's the difference between the "lite/free" and "pay for" versions.

What are the problems mentioned above? Some bugs/cleanup or security issues?

I am working to identify the problems with the lite version. There were a few code fixes (template issues) that were made and a few people had problems with this hack when installed in 3.6.x. but I have not been able to reproduce the errors. I do not think there are any security issues.

As for comparing the two products, SR Classifieds is a lite version that allows Ad Types of BUY and SELL in one level of categories. With SR Classifieds there is no way to charge to list an item.

vBClassified is a much more diverse product and has a completely different operating database. It uses a concept of Ad Nature and an Admin can add as many Ad Types as they would like that use the basic nature codes. The current Nature codes include NO PRICE, FIXED PRICE, and INCREASING BIDS. vBClassified also allows multiple images with lightbox, private offers system, public comments, bid retraction logging, Commit to Buyer options, Deal Pending and Deal Done systems, and more. It also features an incremental bid system like ebay and sellers or site staff can delete bids. You can compare the two on my site at http://www.vbclassified.com and as you can see you can have both run on the same website as they do not use ANY of the same phrases, templates, or database tables/fields. vBClassified uses a system of credits that can be purchased with $Money or vBBux points and these credits can be set to various costs per category (including FREE). Credits are also optionally used to feature ads.

I am just starting to try to address the issues with SR CLASSIFIEDS lite. One issue I have noticed is that the whitespace is not preserved and I had to fix that in another of my projects but I need more time to trace the code to find the error.

If you join my site at vbclassified you can try the LITE version and see what it does and you can try the premium version as well. Both work quite well, it just depends on your needs.

I am a little confused about the version numbers.

Gio's was 1.02 and you said a a while back NOT to install it as you will be releasing a newer version when you got a chance to look at it.

Now you created this post here but the file is 1.03, however on your own site you say that this was gio's last version and again, don't install it as it needs alot of fixing.

I am confused.

Basically, is this a new version, or not?

If not, can you maybe give us a basic time frame (no hurry of course) as I have taken your advice and not installed it.

Sorry for the confusion. There is a bug in the message area code that I am trying to find and fix in that if you use the standard editor the whitespace is preserver but if you use the "advanced" editor the formatting is messed up. The code that does this is in the sr_classifieds.php file as I looked at the template files and I did not see the error there.

I will update the product file when I find a fix with directions on how to move up to the new release.

This script can be installed and it should work fine. If anybody has problems, just let me know and I'll fix them.

a paypal button,message box,users own page, And much much more! Any ideas?

OK, I figured out where to comment, but on any site when you click on a persons name you are sent to their profile. This is the same in vbClassified. Also the paypal button should be inside the add, not outside. I am not a coder nor am I trying to be one, but I am a firm believer in making site navigation as user friendly as possible. Can this be done?

I do still plan to rework SrClassifieds and I agree the paypal link is in the wrong place on Sr Classifieds but I don't have the time to recode this at this time as I am busy with other projects at the moment. I will try to work on it in the next couple weeks but I reposted this because in the old thread members here had install errors which seem to have been fixed now (at least I am not seeing any complaints).

As for the other issues, SR Classifieds and vBClassifieds work like most any vBulletin hack where if you click on the user's name you will see info about the user. This is not a bug, it's the way it should work?

As for the PayPal button in vBClassified, that is only inside the Ad and it is only available after you commit to the seller to buy the item. Once you commit, you can pay via paypal and once paid the seller can no longer edit their ad or reset you as a buyer. If you send money via the poney express, then the seller has a "MARK PAID" link that will allow them to indicate you paid for the item.

Champster:

SR CLASSIFIEDS is limited by a database structure and code with what it can do. You could modify it but it would be a lot of work. vBClassified on the other hand will allow you to post items without a price like job listings, personals, etc. The system is completely compatable but I have not coded the script to not give the "Commit to Buy" for these types of ads as I am actively coding the script and I don't want these conditionals in the final product users install!

Just the same, here is an example of a personals listing:

The ViewAd template could be hacked with conditionals so that if the Type of ad is a "Job Listing" that the Commit button would not be shown... I just can't do that with a production website that I use to export the product files from.

admincp/vBulletin Options/SR Classifieds in Your advertisement code box add disired info to be added, click save, open classifieds and you will see it, look at my site.

Everything is templated so can you post the graphic you would like displayed and give an idea where you want it to show and I can advise where to hack the templates...

As indicated above, the e-mail is a vBulletin function and in the lite version of the premium version you could edit the templates. Now, if a user sets vBulletin so they do not receive e-mails... BOTH of the classifieds scripts honor this! Everything in both scripts is permission based!

As for the time left, I have received this as a request for the premium version but I have not worked out how to do this yet due to the complexity of that script.

OK, I looked at the script and made a number of changes including:

This was updated in the ZIP package and released as version 1.0.4.

Please reupload all of the files again and revert any customized templates or you will not see the newest versions!

I just installed this right after you changed out the zip, everythign looks great, except when I go to delete an ad, nothing happens. In the status bar on my browser is says "javascript deletead();".

If I go into my page's source and look at the JS code I can find the link to delete it, I put it in my address bar hit enter and it deletes it. Any ideas?

I fixed it... somehow. Not sure. It wasn't on my site either, was on another site I help with.

I think there is an extra space somewhere I took out if I remember right.

I don't know. Its working now. I am using Firefox 2.0 on XP and also tried it on Safari on Mac OS X. Working on both now though. Sorry for the issue.

No, there are only two usergroup specific settings in SR Classifieds Lite. May I ask why would you assume that would have changed? vBClassified, which I saw you looking at, has 18 usergroup settings plus a lot more AdminCP settings.

I looked at the demo of this mod, and see that one item is showing -500h left in the ad. Do ads not disappear after they have expired?

I also see on the demo homepage that the ad stats show 2 active ads (correct) but if you look at the category boxes, it shows a total of 3 active ads (not correct, as one category showing an active ad does not actually have one). Is this just something with the demo, or is it a bug?

When a user deletes an ad, or it expires, is it removed from the DB or is it still there, just not shown to the end user?

Can usergroup permissions be set so only certain usergroups can (1) view ads (2) place ads?

No, it works... On my site I deleted everything when working on the 1.0.4. release and just forgot to turn the cron back on...

The same applies for the wrong category counts... I was doing development work on that site in the past so I am sure I just changed something in the database. The script has a option in the AdminCP to rebuild the counts.

Now, there is a BUG in that times should say closed when the ad is closed and I will fix that in an update soon... Also note the cron does run on the hour so it is possible to have negative times (just not that negative!)

Now, closed ads do remain in view and I will be releasing a cron file for this script soon that will remove the expired ads from the database (along with the uploaded images).

I am sorry to ask, but I am not so good at this stuff, I will copy my forumhome template down below, and hope you might be able to cut and pase the code I look for somewhere in between.

On the left site of my site, I have boxes, and I want to add more with relevant links and information about mods installed. this is my site http://novusordosaeculorum.com

I have updated the SR Classifieds Lite scipt to add a number of new features and to fix a couple minor bugs...

Fixed Cron, sr_classifieds.php, and templates so CLOSED always "0" (Script used 0 and 2 before)
Fixed code to Open and Close ads to update category counts
Fixed layout of category display
Made closed Ads show "CLOSED" in time column instead of negative numbers.
Fixed layout issues in View Ad template
Added NEW Cron that will delete listings, uploaded images, and upload table values after ad has been closed for 90-days
NOTE - Webmasters can edit 90-days in the new CRON FILE (Line is adequately commented!)

On the left site of my site, I have boxes, and I want to add more with relevant links and information about mods installed. this is my site http://novusordosaeculorum.com

Right now I hope to add a box with the title "classifieds" and in the box it shows 3 lines of text with info on the mod, a sell now and a buy now link and a random listing.

OK, I'm stumped. Are you not allowed to have people buy stuff in the lite version?
How do you buy an item if they do not enter a paypal address?
I wanted to set my classifieds site so that people could buy stuff with in game currency so using paypal (pay real life cash for in game items) would be against the EULA.

It's not a shopping cart, it's a classified system. As in Craigslist or eBay, you contact the person and arrange payment offline. The PayPal button is just a nice addition to facilitate the process. If they don't have PayPal, then they have to handle payment another way.

The feedback is kept in the user table so as the script is written there is no special query needed to show this. To make it so that the database would be searched for rights to use the classifieds would add an extra process that is not in the script (as you mentioned).

The lite version does not have IPN... IPN is built into the vBClassified script however... The process of interacting with the payment processor requires a lot of extra work such as creating a unique invoice, passing the values to paypal, and getting the result back from paypal. Then, there is the issue of dealing with uncleared payments (e-checks). The premium version does all of this but the lite one does not.

The PayPal code is in the ViewAd template so you can edit this to what you need. You would need to verify that the rest of the data sent to paypal matches the layout in the template as written but I would not expect that you would have problems.

Now, I assume your UK paypal addresses would work with the paypal.com domain, right?

Not in the lite version... This is small script and adds little overhead. vBClassified has subcats if you really need them.

No, the system would not delete the ad and I need to do a test to verify the impact of a user deletion. I will try to test soon and post an update if this causes errors.

Another issue I am having. I haven't uploaded any images for the categories (don't want any) so now it's just showing the dreaded red X where the image should be. It's just a blank src="" in the source code. Is there a way to fix the templates so if no image is specified, it doesn't display the src code at all?

Re-Set your image sizes in vb, I used to get those. But was told to edit image sizes..Look in past post, its there somewhere...Or go to vbclassifieds.com to get assistance from the owner of this. He will help you out, check through his forum to look for your situation.

Are you going to admincp via mod or admin....you need admin, also go to usergroups/Administrator Permissions...edit your permissions..see if that helps

Turns out you have to refresh the AdminCP to get the SR Classifieds to show up in there.

When you upload the product into the AdminCP, you can put a link to the mod and you put a link to a version checker.

That's what I'm referring to.

It's a way for you to know if the version of the mod you have installed is old, up to date, or if there's a newer one.

I posted this on your other site, but figured there might be a response to be had here as well...plus someone else might be running into the same issue and if a solution is posted here it would be helpful to others to see.

I'm aware that you need to spend your time helping paying customers. However, I wanted to put this out there.

The display order is botched on categories. If you have more than 9 categories, the order is not retained. For instance:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10

Shows up like this:

1 - 10 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9

As a current work around, I have to do the following:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 99

Image thumbnail sizes are not retained. If you go into the AdminCP --> SR Classifieds --> SR Classifieds Options --> Size of thumbnail for ads? This thumbnail will be listed in the categories, mainpage, etc.

I've tried changing these settings but they don't seem to be tied to the images I've used for the categories. Perhaps I'm looking somewhere wrong or expecting this to do something it's not supposed to do?

Page width doesn't stay within the constraints of the template you're using for the page.


If any of these items can be resolved on my end, please let me know.

EDIT: How can I change the Rating [sr_classifieds_rating] to read Trader Rating: instead of just Rating?

I've tried changing the phrase by adding an English translation but it doesn't change it in the posts, etc.

"Rating" is a bit too vague for our needs as the users are confusing it with the user reputation system built into vBulletin that we no longer use.

Am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was thinking today that it would kick butt if somehow there could be a daily or weekly post made to the forums saying new ads have been added and even what they are... my users forget to go to the classifieds, so if there could somehow be a post made to a specified forum I bet it would really increase the activity my ads get, and perhaps would help others. I checked the paid version but didn't see it as a feature there, either.

This is just a suggestion, something that I wouldn't mind. Is there anyway that the users that start an ad can put a link to their ad in their signature? Or some way of automatically putting a link in the postbit, or signature area?

try editing your

Sorry about that, i forgot i altered a lot of the layout when i used the code before.

You could have just reverted the template though.

Heres a fix to allow your forum home to work as you wanted without affecting your classified ads system

Create a new template. Call it sr_classifieds_forumhome

In that paste

At this time I'm using Photopost classifieds on my site. It has worked fine but they seem to have little interest in adding any new requested features.

One feature that I am looking for is a link in each ad to "email ad to friend". Does anybody know if this system has that.

When adding or editting "extra fields" options, There is no way to make it applicable to all forums. The options available are presented in a drop down box with a list of the categories. However the description says this should be a text box.

is there a way to change this as I have a lot of categories and don't wish to have to enter new feild for each category.

I'm using this on my forum and so far it's working pretty well. However I'm having one small problem.

On a user's "feedback" page it lists their location. I want to add this to each "ad" page so that their location shows along with every ad, as I have international users who want to know where they're paying for shipping from without having to look the user up each time.

In the "feedback" template this is done like this:

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? I just can't figure it out. I thought user profile fields could be called just about anywhere and since it works on the "feedback" page I don't understand why it doesn't work on the "ad" page as well. :(

Hello, I am looking to use something like this to run an internal classified/auction in a forum that is attached to an online game. We DO NOT want players to exchange real money but we do want them to exchange in-game items. There are basically three classes of items that are tradeable.

It looks like a great mod, but I cannot seem to get the upload image to work, it takes a bit then it just goes to a blank screen. I have set the 2 files up as 777 as its asks, what else may be causing this. I like the search bar in the purchaced software as well. If I purchace does it overwrite and I dont loose my data that I set up.

Got it working, it originally installed before the /forum then installed after the forum/sr_classifieds. I forgot to delete the first one and thats where I changed those files to 777. Now changed it under the /forum and it works. Now only one question, If I buy does it change alot and does it just overwrite the software and the data and setup stay the same?

I also purchased the PhotoPost Classified on my site and they updated, but gave absolutely POOR instructions for upgrading within the same version, but different build. It hosed my complete website. The authors took forever to respond. When they did respond, they came back with a writeup like they never even read my issue or gave a sheet... I trash can'd that program and NEVER will I purchase unless I know the authors WILL support the program diligently... That said, I see MANY posts, requests and help, but see almost zero responses... I hope that is not a sign!

Install went fine
Everything is working except when making a new ad.
The new ads will work however if you try and add a picture to the add
it will give this error.

and not make the new ad. Both folders are chmod to 777 and if i check the FTP the files are actually on the ftp. Just cant get passed this error. Any ideas would he helpful.

I just had a communication with the new owner of this defunct script, and he is no longer offering support for this script. He currently has his hands pretty full with his vbclassifieds script and is trying to support his paying customers.

Unless you are somewhat handy with php, i would highly try to avoid this script. Or better yet, maybe move it into the modification graveyard. That way members don't download this thinking they are getting a great mod.

One last note about this mod, if you upload it onto your site and you are able to get it to work, nobody will truly know that you have the classifieds listed on your site. It DOES NOT put a new thread in your forums, so unless your members new and old, know that this mod is actually on your site, nobody will go to it.

You can put a link in your navbar, but unless people can see a new thread posted, they will move on to another site looking for stuff for sale.

The error is becase I use the same function name in both the free SR Classifieds script and the premium vBClassifieds script.

I have been considering makeing a lite version of the vbclassified product as the SR product is just so extremely different then the vBclassified product. No promises when, but I am looking at it as a possibility.

I would like to know if the search options that i can see in your demo are available in the light/free version.

In fact, I have a big car's forum and I need to have car options (airbag, automatic...) and also location. In this case, it is possible to edit/add options, and about location i have to manage cities/regions of Italy but I also want to add other countries, so want to know if its possible.

I also need to have constructors (alfa romeo,bmw...) and models for each constructor...

No, many of the features you see for the vBClassified script do not work with the SR Classified product. To include them would require an extreme amount of time and effort to for a product that I really have stopped development on as the vBClassified product is extreemely different.

Again, I am finishing some projects at the moment and I do plan to make a lite version of vBClassified in the near future. This SR Classified script is not the same product as vBClassified, they use very different database structures and logic in the way they work.

Ok installed and it works perfectly!! Juste some questions...
- where I can translate the ad type words "Buy" & "Sell" ?
- Where I can translate the words "Day, Days, Week, Weeks, Month, Months"
- where i can modify the date format? Actually its like this: %04/%03/%03 ??

I have created 3 categories, and now want to add an extrafield.
Its written: "Categories To Include This In
Please enter the ID's of the categories in which you'd like to have these options included in, seperated by a comma. Leave this blank for it to be in all forums. "
But I cant enter ID...there is a dropdown menu with my 3 categories!! So I can add this extrafield only to one of those categories! Do I have to erase everything and start again?

I'm making asking this in the wrong area so apologies in advance. Is there any way to use the itrader ratings in this mod, rather tha the inbuilt rating system?

All I'd like, on the for sale/wanted listing pages, is a quick link to the users itrader rating - be it just the simple feedback score, or a link into their member info profile (with all the indepth ratings)
