Can you tell I'm looking for a new host yet?

So far I've had 2 hosting companies give me less than I asked for with unreliable control panels and lots of down time, and all this in the past 2 weeks. So before I take an axe to somebody I figured I'd post a question here. Luckily the newest host I have gives me 30 day money back guarantee.

I've looked through many hosts posted on here and the .com forum and many do not seem good, either in price, or customer service, or server speed, it seems it's always something that's lacking. I have a vBulletin forum, a file exchange site that will link to it plus appx 60 domains of small sites I host that barely use any bandwidth (the 60 domains use little bandwidth) so a good shared server or VPS would be ideal until I need to upgrade to a dedicated server. Speed is obviously important and customer service plus upgrade options.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end and all these problems are slowing me down and taking up valuable time I need for developing these sites. At this point price is my last concern. My recent host was appx $50/month for a VPS linux server so anything near that or even entry level dedicated server would be fine as long as I get good service.

Thanks

D

Thanks for the link. I also contacted Rackspace about a dedicated server and so far they seem superior to most with the amount of support and redundancy, backups, 100% uptime, managed, etc. Costs a little more than other dedicated plans but seems to be worth it.

Rackspace is one of the most expensive...but for a reason, you can't really go wrong with them right now if you have the budget to pay that much. Cheaper yet really good solutions for dedicated would be softlayer or liquidweb.

The key thing to remember about RackSpace is that while they are "managed" hosting, they will not personally work on your server (depending on the package you purchase). In most cases, you can call and get support but they will guide you over the phone what you need to do and you will have to go in and do it on your own.

If you are uncomfortable with server level operations, they might not be the best host for you. Why don't you tell us a little more about your site i.e. what are your forum stats in terms of max number of users online, DB size, if your board is heavily modded.
