View Full Version : vBulletin.org update: January 7th, 2007

As the New Year officially begins, many users are probably curious if any new changes will occur at vBulletin.org. The staff has spent a lot of time reading your suggestions and composing a To-Do list for the community.
Our main focus is to continue as the official modification resource for vBulletin by implementing new features which will make it easier for both the users who download modifications and the developers who code the modifications or design styles. We are here to support the entire member-base of the community.
We plan to roll out with these features throughout 2007 in stages.
Our first roll out will be this Sunday, January 7th. The site will be temporarily closed as we push out the first new features.
Many users have submitted their opinions on what color they wish the new vBulletin.org style should be, at the following poll:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=134067
We have carefully reviewed the poll and the new style will be revealed on Sunday along with some additional features.
This will be a great way to start the new year, and we thank all the members for their support and patience. It is going to be an exciting year for vBulletin.org! :)

Yes, only 1 style will be available. (More about this when the new changes are implemented.)
The new style is just a small part of the new features being implemented.
You will find numerous changes throughout the site.
Our Goals:
To create a system in which we can upgrade/extend easily. (Not just for us, but future vb.org volunteers.)
To create a more user-friendly environment.

Having experience of major forum upgrades and changes, I would have to say "when the job is done".
It's not normally possible to give accurate estimates as you never know what might happen.

With all due respect to Princeton, the new style sucks. At first I thought that the site was hacked, but unfortunately, turns out that it's the style (and I am not saying that it would be better if the site were hacked, I'm saying that it would be better if the style was hacker's). The color scheme is not balanced and there are control elements that make everything look stacked up.
I sincerely hope that this is not the final version of the style and that you guys are going to work on improving it. Or, could there be an option of switching to the previous style?

Already tried all four colors, both fluid and non-fluid. I am happy for you if you like it, but I do not. The design now looks no different - overall - than that of any 3rd party unofficial amateur hacking site...

This thing looks awful. I would really put "vBulletin.org" in the header rather than "vBulletinMods" that is dumb. Atleast the skin that Alex made had custom buttons, good work I guess but I am not really impressed with it at all. You should have hired 4 of the best custom skin designers to do a collab.

I agree. At least that would help everyone identify which site they are on. Cause right, by design, I cannot tell. :(

Afterall being a modding site you would think that would extend with the images being custom aswell as the style. It's default gone bad. very bad. Abonrmally bad my worse nightmare being surrounded by default images. Look that default "new thread" button is moving ever so closer better switch to fluid.

Wow... talk about overwhelming, I'll be half an hour finding everything that's changed. Not too bad I say, it reminds me a lot of vBulletin.com. I especially like the "Red Rum" style... lol, who came up with that title?
If I had to suggest something, it'd be that some custom buttons are made -- no offense to the stock buttons. ;)
Also, I think our User Titles could use a little work... they look really bland.
PS: Is there some thread that explains all the new features? Like what is this "Donation Options" field in our UserCP?

I have to agree, im not that impressed. I wanted to browse around and see how everything looked, but its not all that great.
No custom buttons, Not a big deal but then what took so long to roll it out? Most the variations are simple CSS color changes that a 12 year old could have made. Good idea gone horribly wrong. I really dont see that many additions or changes that were talked about unless i'm missing them some where?
On a positive note though, glad to see changes finally happening and the community being listened to!

Nope. All our styles have been modified a lot to work with our specific modifications and would not work on standard boards.

Nope. All our styles have been modified a lot to work with our specific modifications and would not work on standard boards.
That wouldn't matter at all, Marco. I don't need it in a ready, fully installable form anyway. I'd reassemble the whole design to adapt what you had here into another base style structure in a custom.. hybrid thing. So, basically, a quick download of the graphics (or some of the graphics) to use as a guide/reference while making my own set and to apply that color scheme to my own "default-turned-custom" templates is what I'd end up doing with it.
I just can't do even that much without first getting permission from you guys.
