URL: http://www.traderslaboratory.com/

Description: Financial forum for traders and active investors. We focus on futures, stocks, option, and forex.

Reason: We have taken a different approach in starting a forum. Our initial goal was to make our site more than a forum and interactive as possible. We feature articles sections, charts, videos, and chat rooms. We also host live chat seminars on trading. We have recently partnered up with a financial news firm and interviews can be streamed via our site through our audio player.

This is my first forum and website ever. I managed to make it without any coding knowledge so still shocked how I came up this far. We have managed to reach the 1,000 member mark this month within 5 months of launch. We are a revenue sharing board with adsense and also through amazon for those who write book reviews.

Description: The Armory is a community of gamers who enjoy playing PC games in a friendly environment. Originally founded in March of 2002, the Armory has evolved from a simple Half-Life Firearms community site, to a large community of gamers who enjoy both a successful game server and user-friendly website.

Reason for Nomination: Our community provides it's members with a friendly environment to exchange their thoughts and opinions, some of which are informative and even sometimes humorous. We are 100% self-supported with absolutely no funding coming from outside advertisers.

Thanks Coders: I would like to personally thank the many coders who created these wonderful scripts that allow my site to have all the "bells and whistles". No matter how many users download your script(s), whether it be 5 or 500, I can assure you that each and every one of us (end-users) appreciate all your hard work.

Site Name: AMAC - American Muscle Auto Club

URL: www.amacny.com

Description: AMAC is a car club unlike any other. We provide many perks for our members because we realize that members make the site, not the Admins. All members of our club/site get 3GB of personal storage for any/all types of attachments. Additional for the club itself we focus more on the people rather then the cars. Not just anyone can get in because of this. We allow all our members to speak openly and freely, in fact, we encourage it. If you can't be yourself then what's the point, is how we feel. All are welcome, but realize that because we only censor the board if someone is being TRULY hateful and angry, you might find the posts/threads rather candid.

Reason for Nomination: Because of our unique stance on censorship, focus on community, and all the mods/hacks working in harmony with our users, I feel we're an ideal choice for BOTM. We offer options like a Mobile Style for PDA/PocketPC users, in-line integration of Google Videos/You Tube/StreetFire within our Media Center, and much, much more!

Our site is best viewed in either the latest FireFox, or IE7, at resolutions at or above 1024x768.

Site Name: MakeupTalk.com
URL: www.MakeupTalk.com (http://www.MakeupTalk.com)
Description: Created in August of 2003, Makeuptalk.com is for women(and some men) to chit-chat about their favorite subjects: makeup, skin care, hair care, bath/body care, health and fitness, sex, beauty coupons, jokes, hot deals, and more. MakeupTalk's active custom coded Product Review Center (http://www.makeuptalk.com/reviews/index.php) is busy with almost 12,300 beauty product reviews written. The interactive custom coded Swap Center (http://www.makeuptalk.com/swap/index.php) is alive with over 2,600 active traders trading products into swaps! It all runs on a vB backend! Thanks vB! When we started it, I knew I had to have vB as my back end as it's truly the shining star of boards.

MakeupTalk.com is intended for women of all ages to exchange their beauty ideas and knowledge with other women around the world. With MakeupTalk, we can help each other and try to find solutions for the never ending questions about beauty, health and all the millions of products that are on the market. If you have already found some cool makeup products, makeup techniques, skin care ideas and fitness methods, that you know have helped you, please share it with the rest of us. Let’s also talk about the stuff that hasn’t worked that well so that we can prevent the disaster you went through happening to other women. Ladies of all ages, let’s get together and have some fun with our computers and get a real discussion going! Just click on any of the MakeupTalk.com categories to get started.

Reason for Nomination: One of the main reasons I would like to nominate www.Makeuptalk.com (http://www.Makeuptalk.com) is the hard work of our board moderators/super moderators and Jr. admin. (I'm the admin). These volunteers work their little tails off! My Hat's off to them. Thanks Girls! :)

The site has blossomed in the past 2 years with over 753,000 posts, 43,000 threads and over 41,000 registered users! It sure has come alive in the past 2 years receiving over 2,500-4,000 posts/daily. We run approx 20-40 hacks that are available here on THE ORG. I want to take this time to personally thank many of the dedicated coders who release such excellent work to help boards like ours. Thank you very much!!!

Sorry if I rambled and sorry for the long read, but I really feel like it deserves a nomination.

Site Name: DOGHOUSE

URL: http://doghouse.forumdog.com

Description: A forum about forums, aimed at promotion, review and building of communities rather than the more advanced modding side of things.

Reason for Nomination: Well, I'm afraid we don't have much of a super-dedicated community yet to plug, but we're hoping for one!

The forum is very highly customised featuring mods, mods of mods and plenty of Doghouse-only customisations. Some small touches like the combination post/thread/status icons (my personal favourite mod there, I know it's sad I just think it works really well) and section-specific favicons and some bigger modifications like the very-often-requested and soon-to-be-released-as-a-plugin Dogg post/thread voting (http://doghouse.forumdog.com/announcement.php?f=43&a=4) which hides negatively rated posts and threads and was made especially for the site.

The theme(s, there are a few colours) are equally highly customised in a super-quick, super-clean style and almost entirely redone in places to fully optimise the vBulletin UI and usabilty in key locations. The postbit I personally like the most, it has been totally redesigned into a unique and again super-clean "comment" style appearance.

Long story short, it may not be an all-singing, all-dancing graphical explosion. But lots of effort was put into extensive improvements where it counts and I think the result is worth a nod. Ta for reading, hope someone appreciates it!

Site Name: GameGeekSpeak
URL: http://gamegeekspeak.com/

Description: Gamers community board offering podcasts, discussions, news, interviews and contests. The community support allows for hosted guilds which get forums, calendars and teamspeak all at no costs and ad free. Finally, the community donations are used to fund contests, game servers for sponsored clans and reimburse staff their monthly MMO fees as a reward for their contributions.

Reason for Nomination: After the past 3 years running sites on DotNetNuke and CommunityServer, I can tell you just how much better vBulletin is for someone new to vBulletin, this community and LAMP.

This site is up as of today for 3 weeks, is heading towards 3000 posts and is running all of the bells and whistles that make for a great, fun vBulletin community. The ease at which you can use the resources of vBulletin and the vBulletin community today to get not just up and running, but running huge is amazing. Integration out of the box and via mods and hacks is amazing.

Podcasts: I let my goal of podcasts go for over a year because the prior forums I worked with had no support, then when it came out, it was just horrible.
Photo Gallery: Can you imagine my joy at being able to actually move pictures, rename them and delete them?
Stats: You mean I don't need to manually run SQL reports, the forums have it already?
RSS feeds to populate forums: What, you mean I dont need to mnaully copy past in news items.

CommunityServer has no Community in it. Just broken features, lack of support, no mods, hacks and barely visible add-ons. Yet core features of the product just do not work. Get hit by SPAM? Check of the box hide this users posts. Then find out that a key feature in the base UI does nothing. And when you post about it, the CS community is not shocked or suprised.

So, GameGeekSpeak is running, and after working with different forums and software products for years, I cannot express how much I wish I had gone to vBulletin from the beginning. Thank you all for everything.

But what makes it the BOTM is how easy it ease to get all this going, and it all works and is rock solid. The bonus to this as a BOTM is my personal experience and frustrations with vBulletins competitors and a final remark, "Go vBulletin and have zero regrets."

Site Name: Elternfragen.net

URL: http://www.Elternfragen.net

Description: A German Forum for parents and becoming parents run by a medical student to ask (medical) questions, talk about their kids, their problems with health, nutrition, raising children, memorable moments and much more.

Reason for Nomination: A very friendly community spirit is the first thing a visitor sees when reading any kind of thread in this relatively new community. Members who have questions are getting competent answers fast and most of them stay because of the community feeling that is driving this forum. The well designed graphics and color scheme makes it easy to spend a lot of time on the forum and the header and icons show you in a glance what this community is all about.
But there is more, a lot of modifications/features have been added to enhance the users experience and make them enjoy their time spend on the forum.
Overall till now we only received very positive feedback and if you speak German, if you have kids or want to have kids, we recommend you have a look.

I second this nomination because it has a great colour scheme and design, and the community is great to interact with. Overall it is a solid forum for German parents.

Reason for Nomination: A lot of work has been put into this site and these forums, by several people. They have worked painlessly to make the site fast, easy to navigate, and full of important and quality content. They have also tried very hard to make the forums a friendly, enjoyable, relevant, and easy to use community experience. So far, their strategy is working. This site is full of good information, has a lively and entertaining group of members, is growing fast, and truly deserves a simple nomination.

Site Name: Hyjoo

URL: www.hyjoo.com (http://www.hyjoo.com/)

Description: Off-topic french board. Discussions concern movies, music, games... To sum up : everything which is related to leasure entertainment.

Reason for Nomination: Our community has been growing more and more these last six months. A huge work has been done in order to answear to members' needs, making Hyjoo a heavily modified board, with a lot of "homemade" hacks. A few examples :

- We created our own article system with a special "indexation feature" (see here (http://www.hyjoo.com/fiches-anime-et-manga.html) for an example with our Anime & Manga Index) !

- We created a fully integrated IRC system (with unrealircd server, and a java script which links it to the vB database). Only Hyjoo members are able to login to this private IRC server (test it here (http://irc.hyjoo.com) if you want) !

- We now have our directory, generated from the DMOZ one, and integrated in our board.

I know most of your guys are not English, but it's been something like 2 years I am a vBulletin addict, and I couldn't wait to make Hyjoo a candidate for the BOTM ! :)

OK, there are just under 24 to go before nominations are closed for BOTM February.

If you haven't already done so, have a look at the sites that have been nominated and second the ones that you like. You can second up to three sites providing all seconds are located within the same post.

Good luck everyone.
