What does this do??

It essentially replaces the boring javascript alert with a fly-in DHTML version. This has gone down extremely well on my boards, so I thought I would share it.

Don't work here either :(

Can anyone confirm:-

Goto admincp -> styles -> style manager.

Expand the private message templates section..

There should be a template called: pm_webforumz_popup_script.

Next, goto plugin manager.

There should be two plugins:-
Webforumz :: Better PM Notification Cache Template
Webforumz :: Better PM Notification Parse Template

I am pretty sure all this should be there.

I'm not sure it would'nt work however..... it's a simple hack.

For those that cannot get this working...

Replace the contents of pm_popup_script template with the contents of pm_webforumz_popup_script.

All accounted for. But I'm not following you on how to do the following, where do I find pm_webforumz_popup_script?

Replace the contents of pm_popup_script template with the contents of pm_webforumz_popup_script.

Thanks

I imported as a product as opposed to a plugin

I cant understand why it doesnt work for some people....
it's just a direct replacement for the existing template.

The code is tested pretty well on lots of sites.

Could those having issues please report your browser versions and operating systems?

Something wrong with the installer, I suppose. After importing the product, there is nothing in style templates like pm_webforumz_popup_script. However, there ARE plugins created by this mod :
Webforumz :: Better PM Notification Cache Template
Webforumz :: Better PM Notification Parse Templates

I use vB 3.6.4

Uninstalled, but will reinstall after this is fixed.

A note for people who have pages on their forums other than on ROOT.
If you have a non page outside your forum root dir it wont lead you to the UserCP/Inbox page. If you want this product to work, just re-import the edited product I attached.

I also added phrases, as the original didnt use any.

This should be version 1.1 i suppose.

Cya!

I have the same issue. I don't think there a way to have the DHTML popup show over a flash document. Though, I tried to edit the Y offset so it will popup a little lower, but nothing changed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Update: I managed to find where to edit the Y offset. Look for this line in pm_webforumz_popup_script located in your pm templatesif (parseInt(crossobj.top)<100+scroll_top) and replace the number to a higher one. I used 300.

Also, there was a problem with the appearance (image attached), it was showing in FF and IE.
What I did to correct this is find <div id="dropin" style="position:absolute;visibility:hidden;left:250px;top :100px;width:460px;height:197px;background-color:#F5F5F5">
and replace 197px with 150px. That's what worked for me.

Nope. Still doesn't work in FF2. I got the opp. to test it in Safari though and it works fine, so I don't see why it won't work in Firefox.. *sigh*

Oh, and while I was testing on my friend's Mac, I tried Firefox on his computer as well and nothing happened.

Good addition, only issue I have is my flash header at top of forums --

If this add-on "pops up" while my flash header is on screen, part of it appears "behind" my flash header.

Is it possible to have this fly in from different places ending up in a configurable location?

That would be great.

Thanks much

I know why it wasn't working now..
I did not have this enabled in my options:
if you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up

Does anyone know how to make this the default?

:( i really wanted the pop up notification..i use FF and 3.6.8 pl2 maybe thats why

rob30UK

Ok....

I dont support my hacks generally but let me just say that users HAVE TO turn on the option in their usercp to receive a pop up notification of private messages.

This hack is installed as is, with ZERO modifications on my site and is also functioning fine on the 3.7 beta which I have installed on another site.

This also stopped working for me as well and I do have "Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up" enabled. I was able to duplicate the problem in both Firefox 2 and IE7 (java script enabled). I even re-uploaded, overwriting the xml and to no avail.

I know why it wasn't working now..
I did not have this enabled in my options:

Does anyone know how to make this the default?

you can make it by default from vboptions Registration

and to make it default for the users already registered

just go in admincp - Maintenance - execute sql query - Automatic Query - Choose - Yes Pop up notification bla bla bla

it will enable it for anyone who turned it that are currently registered

I didn't use the product tho i only used the template and replace my current one less plugins

One last thing

It doesnt show properly in Internet explorer the text is to the left because of this

<div align="$stylevar[left]"></code>

Should be
[code]<div align="$stylevar[center]">

Works fine In 3.6.4 Under Firefox 3 beta 4 and Internet explorer 7
Thanks! Great Modd
