View Full Version : Major navbar Makeover

CSS59

I was never a fan on the navbar layout, especially for sites running a banner ad above or below it. The navbar + banner took up too much space on top of each page. This is my attempt to consolidate and give the forum a different feel:

WARNING: This removes all your navigation at the bottom of your navbar. You will need to relocate it to the header via this hack:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=98853 (not mine)

So let's try it. Go to:
Style Manager > Navigation / Breadcrumb Templates > navbar
Replace all existing content with this.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function log_out()
{
ht = document.getElementsByTagName("html");
ht[0].style.filter = "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(grays cale=1)";
if (confirm('$vbphrase[sure_you_want_to_log_out]'))
{
return true;
}
else
{
ht[0].style.filter = "";
return false;
}
}
//-->
</script>

Possible Bug: Can?t use the navbar to log in from a different directory on the forum (ie: /gallery)

This is my first release of anything here, so take it for what is worth. If you can help me improve this, please test it and help out

This should probably be a plugin but I don?t know how to make one.

The above is the showthread screenshot. Puts the thread title ("Moderators") on the same line of the breadcrumb

Looks familiar, but I use alpha transparent PNGs for more flare.

Eh close but not the same. Did you release that?
Mine also puts all the breadcrumbs on one line.

I didn't use it exactly as you had, but instead just integrated the new table portion into my existing navbar setup. It maintains the navbar links while still keeping the breadcrumb on the bottom and on a single line. Took alittle bit to make it work, but works great nonetheless. Thanks!!

^ That looks really good! Did you keep the table for the forum discription as well?

As far as I know. I had already moved the links to above the navbar, so all I did was pull the breadcrumb out of the navbar, then used your code (the NEW TABLE part) below it. Here is my code:

<!-- breadcrumb, login, pm info -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-bottom-width:0px">
<tr>
<td align="center" class="alt1">
<!-- Place Banner Here -->

<!-- End Banner -->
</td>
<if condition="$show['member']">

<td class="alt2" valign="top" nowrap="nowrap">
<div class="smallfont">
<strong><phrase 1="$bbuserinfo[username]">$vbphrase[welcome_x]</phrase></strong><br />
<phrase 1="$pmbox[lastvisitdate]" 2="$pmbox[lastvisittime]">$vbphrase[last_visited_x_at_y]</phrase>
<if condition="$show['pmstats']"><br /><phrase 1="$vbphrase[unread_x_nav_compiled]" 2="$vbphrase[total_x_nav_compiled]" 3="$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[private_messages_nav]</phrase></if>
<if condition="$show['pmwarning']"><br /><strong><phrase 1="$vbphrase[pmpercent_nav_compiled]">$vbphrase[your_pm_box_is_x_full]</phrase></strong></if>
</div>
</td>

<else />

<td class="alt2" nowrap="nowrap" style="padding:0px">

<!-- login form -->
<form action="login.php?do=login" method="post" onsubmit="md5hash(vb_login_password, vb_login_md5password, vb_login_md5password_utf, $show[nopasswordempty])">

When I get some time, I'm going to try to figure out the issue with the Gallery, or similar things when it goes into a different directory other than the main forum directory.
