Notice: This mod is no longer being developed by the original author. As of today (1-1-2008) it will be continued by Laura (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=167421)!

This mod will enable you to convert a forum into a diary of weblog (blog) forum. A diary or blog can be started by any user who has permissions to post in the forum and only the author of the diary is able to post entries.

The autor of the diary is able to protect the diary with a password so that only users (also guests) who know the password are able to view the diary or blog.

This mod may contain some bugs as I did not yet test it extensively. Please let me know if you find any bugs and I will work on it. Feature requests are also verry welcome!

Customized Diary/Blog template wich shows the post date for diaries and entry title for blogs in a <h2> tag.
This mod makes use of the original vBulletin systems so it will perform on a big high traffic forum. Aprox. 30 hours have been invested in this mod so far. Ofcourse also a lot of study work to get to know the vBulletin systems like Postbit factory and datamanager.

No template edits are needed, all is managed via the plugin system, a onetime install and further configuration from the original vBulletin forum adminpanel.

Regarding your suggestions:

Diary Author can allow some registered users to read & comment on their diary.
The author is able to specifiy a password and then provide it to whoever he/she likes. The user doesn't even have to be registered on the forum to view the password protected diary.

Maybe it would be better to be able to specify a thumbnail per diary? As 1 user can have multiple diaries about specific subjects like pets etc.

I don't understand what you mean by this. And I would like to keep it "manual template modification" free. It might be possible to change the existing template data via a plugin but I am not sure if this will work or if it would be needed. Isn't just the title like "Diary of user xxx" enaufh?

Hi!

I've updated the mod. I've spend almost 5 hours on setting up a diary thumbnail manager based on the original vBulletin Avatar manager wich will cache the avatars for example and store them in the database or on your server based on your vBulletin settings.

I've tested with the default vBulletin Database Avatar storage setting and not yet the filestorage option aldough I did add support for it.

If you want to use the vBulletin Filestorage option you will need to create a directory named diarythumbs in your forum root and chmod it 775.

The Diary now also has a custom forum view as requested by Pehchaan.

I will also add comment support but do not yet know how to do it. If you have any suggestions let me know!

Just 10 seconds ago I uploaded a new version again wich now has support for "Blog" or "Diary" (both work the same but use difrent of the same templates and difrent phrases).

So you are now able to use this script to offer weblogs aswell!

You can try to do each query manualy from your vBulletin adminpanel -> Maintainance -> Execute SQL Query

You simply copy the code between the query_write("..."); and replace ".$vbulletin->config["Database"]["tableprefix"]." with your table prefix.

daft question can we allow members to view the blog or diary etc without them being able to post in reply to the postings within the particular diary or does the password set up mean you can view and post in reply all time.

The Mod has been updated! It now offers an entry page where registered users are able to post comments.

It may look simple, yet it took me 15 hours today to get the comment system setup since it's based on the original vBulletin Postbit factory. The effort is that it will be useable on big high traffic forums and that it's compatible with all servers.

Why not add a few lines of instructions, or use mine if these are correct:

1. Upload the content of /includes to your /includes directory on the server
2. Upload diaryimage.php to the root of your forum (for example /forum)
3. Login into your admin panel > Plugins & Products > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product] and import the file /import/product-vbulletindiary.xml
4. You are done

I suddenly get the errer "no Datamanager" when posting a new blog...but the message is posted..raar

Also...when I post several blog entries all is fine and looking good. But when I delete all blogs and leave 1,..then it looks like a regular forum post. So when I try to add another blog it is just a forum post. It doesn't give me the possibility to enter a password or use an image for the blog. I checked the forum and it somehow jumped back to Forum type (default, diary or blog): Default Forum

Oke, here a summary of the bugs that I encountered with the BLOG. Hoping that it might help you Jaap fixing these bugs one day if more people have these bugs :)
Error message "no datamanager" when posting a new blog with Weblog Thumnail
BUT the post appears in the blogforum. Posting a blog with or without password is no problem.
Forum type (default, diary or blog) switches back to Default Forumwhen deleting a blogpost.
When posting a 'quick reply' in a existing blogpost I get the error:

The only problem is with attachments? I thought the commenting system was bugged out...

I didn't try the comments, so I'm not sure.

But when trying to add a picture to be associated with the blog, I get the no DataManager problem. Otherwise, it worked fine.

Yes that is the major problem. This hack should never have been posted till the code was finished. The parts he added need to be removed till it's fixed.

I had 2 sites that this hack would have been well used.

Uninstalled.

Decided to go with a commercial product. vBlogetin.

Will keep looking for this to be finished in the future.

I have installed this and it seems to work okay except I thought there was a way it oculd be protected as in password and I've tested it with a test account I have and the only way it can be protected is if you go to the forum manager and do it yourself. Is there not an option for the AUTHOR of the journal to set this themselves so that they can set it to that ?? And, are you suppose to have permissions for usergroups ?? How are you suppose to specify the blogs with users, kwim ??

I will rebuild this from scratch. I developed a totally new datamanager for this mod, but in my later developments I learned that wasn't needed at all.

So I will try again and make it better. However, the blog option will go. It will be a pure Diary mod as that is what my users want.

Could you please provide me with an example of the best Diary layout?

I am not a diary writer myself at all, so I can't really imagine what would be nice to have and how it should look and function.

I suddenly get the errer "no Datamanager" when posting a new blog...but the message is posted..raar

Also...when I post several blog entries all is fine and looking good. But when I delete all blogs and leave 1,..then it looks like a regular forum post. So when I try to add another blog it is just a forum post. It doesn't give me the possibility to enter a password or use an image for the blog. I checked the forum and it somehow jumped back to Forum type (default, diary or blog): Default Forum

Oke, here a summary of the bugs that I encountered with the BLOG. Hoping that it might help you Jaap fixing these bugs one day if more people have these bugs :)
Error message "no datamanager" when posting a new blog with Weblog Thumnail
BUT the post appears in the blogforum. Posting a blog with or without password is no problem.
Forum type (default, diary or blog) switches back to Default Forumwhen deleting a blogpost.
When posting a 'quick reply' in a existing blogpost I get the error:

When I post an empty 'quick reply' in a blogpost then an empty popup popuppes. But when I post an empty 'reply' in a blogpost then the popup contains the reason why it popuppes.

When I hide a blogpost, I can not tell which one I hided as admin. This blogpost isn't marked or anything, nothing says to me which blogpost is hided or soft deleted.

Ok I figured out most of it! :D I have a few questions though!

I need to know if the stuff in the includes folder gets uploaded into the includes folder already on my site? (I did this just guessing lol)

I got everything working except that when I click on my blog to view it, I get a database error message "database has encountered a problem." and I cannot view my blog.

I see no difference between the blog feature and the diary except the name?

I do not see the features I wanted that I saw on another vbulletin site (this blog setup is the actually only reason why I bought a vbulletin). I want this drop down menu & features. This is how it looks:

The only issue that I have with this is that you cannot reply to a blog entry.

Maybe it's something in my site, or if it's a well known bug, I'm not too sure. If there's a fix, please reply within.

update: notes i found claim fulltext only works with MyISAM and not innoDB. i am using mysql 5 so i like the innoDB for speed and scalability. guess i will have to get a different product.

secondly, @ HIVEDesigner, the intro description clearly states that the "diary" can only have enties by the thread creater; there is no "comment" capability.

I've got the same problem with the replies now too... didn't have that before and i'm running 3.6.7

the comment box is really small/short and it doesn't allow you to click into it.

I installed this to test and when I post a message as either a Blog or a Diary entry, I get the following database error:

MySQL Error : Table 'community.diarycomments' doesn't exist

Community is the database name.

No install instructions were included with what I downloaded. I just put the PHP file where they seemed they should go and installed the XML.
