View Full Version : Post Count Crack

I've been thinking about purchasing vbulletin. However, I am worried about one thing. I recall a vbulletin powered forum I was visiting a few months ago where someone had upped their post count into the millions (they had only been registered for a few days), but there was no extra posts by them. Literally their post count went up overnight. Has this bug been fixed? How was that exploited? I am positive that this person wasn't a mod or anything (they were later banned) so how were they able to do this? Any links to information or help are greatly appreciated!
That can be edited. No bug.vBulletin is totaly bug free.At least the latest version :)

Without admin or database access I would say that's impossible - I cannot see how such a thing could have been done (via a vbulletin exploit) - and indeed - if such an exploit really existed I'm quite sure we would have heard of it by now.

I am a mod on a board running 3.5.4
A user keeps registering, and somehow ups his post count into the millions. 1MM+ once, last time 4MM.
He is then banned.
He comes back periodically with another IP, gets and account...then starts posting.
I can have my admin check in here, or make an official contact. We are pretty surprised there isn't much mention of this...

I would be interested to see what other features are installed on the board...flashchat, impex, mkportal, etc....

Weird
So this is only happening to two installations?
I cant find any mention in other searches I've done, and no replies to our various enquiries.
Just one of those things I guess!

Not true.

There's lots of them but most of them get fixed rather quickly and are placed into a released version.

The post count rollover for banned users is a known bug now:
