Currently using vB v2.3.5 and I'm attempting to stop the many bots that create accounts.
I've entered many email domains such as "web.de" etc but for some reason it's still allowing them to create new accounts via that domain. I've also made sure that banning options is enabled.

Any ideas why it's still allowing them to use these emails?

(also, I haven't looked, but does anyone know of a mod that will allow to ban via birthdate? I've noticed the bots all have the same dob entered)

Thanks!

21 views and no one has any idea about this? I'm running out of options here so I'll take any ideas please...

To recap... vB is still allowing people to register with banned email addresses. The email banning option states:

Email addresses to ban
Email Ban Lists: You may ban certain email addresses from registering on your forums. To ban a specific email, type the full email address (as in, waldo@whereiswaldo.com). To ban all email addresses from certain domains, such as hotmail, simply type the domain name (as in hotmail.com)- that will prevent anyone using a hotmail address from registering. Put a space between each banned email.

and one of the emails I have entered is exactly: "cashette.com" (without quotes) and the bots are still able to register with and email such as "blah@cashette.com".
I've also tried entering the ban as "@cashette.com" but still no luck..

ANYONE have any ideas????

Honestly for vB 2.3.5, I have no idea. I've successfully banned that same domain (@cashette.com) using vs 3.6.4. You might want to try asking the guys over at vbulletin.com. Sorry.

eta: Absolutely, no idea if this will work for your board version, but you might want to use a hack like this one. I have it in place and it's Fantastic!

Dont think that one will work as I still have v2.x

Surely SOMEONE here has some idea as to why users can STILL create a forum account even when banned!

Anyone have any ideas??

I'll have a look on 2.3.10 and see if I can figure it out for you.

Right this works perfectly.

I've taken a screenshot of my ACP for you too for comparison. The style will probably be different, but the info on it is the important bit.

Make sure that yours is the same as mine and it will work fine. Any problems though just poke me.

Thanks for your reply peterska2, I looked over my ACP and the only thing different was that I had "Allow user to keep banned email" set to "No".
I went ahead and changed it to "Yes" and I should know within 48 hours if it helped :)

Thanks again!

Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll take another look at it. Also, if it doesn't work please post a list of mods installed on your site and I'll do a clean install to mirror it and see if I can figure it out from there.

Nope.. didn't work :surprised:

This is really starting to drive me nuts.
I haven't installed any mods to the forum so it should be pretty much default.
Here is a link to what my ban settings look like: http://wingnut.stygrn.com/ban.png

Thanks for your continued help :)

Hmmm, I'm puzzled myself now as that has always worked fine for me.

Could you possibly PM me an admin login and let me take a look in more detail?

I'd love to have the newest version of vB, but since everyone donates their time to our site as volunteers (including me), money unfortunately becomes an issue :cross-eyed:

Oh! So once you buy a licence, its only for that version!?

No you can get upgrades for one year. If you have a leased licence you then need to remove the software or renew your licence for another year to continue using it. With an owned licence you don't need to renew, but if you don't then you do not have any access to upgrades from whatever the current version was when your downloads access expired.

When you have custom things writtten into your site this is always a problem.

Done and thanks...

I've replied to your PM. Let me know how you get on now. If it still isn't working then I'll need to dig out the full manual and have a read up to refresh my memory some more.
