Using Public Groups

Hey Guys,
I am just wondering how you guys are using Public Groups. I haven't really grasped the concept yet and why my members might want it?

It is mainly for permissions reasons why they separate it? Or is there some purpose I am over looking?

I use it solely for permissions reasons. I would imagine that this is the main reason why it is there so that you can have a way of showing a fixed amount of forums to users and then for some specialist or additional forums then you can give the users the option to opt-in to them. I know it is used on some sites that cater for different gaming clans.

It could also be used in reverse where you have them set to remove permissions to forums if people did not want to see them. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do it that way, but it would be possible.
