View Full Version : Add-On Releases - vB News CMS
davidw

Very similar to vB News CMS for 3.5, but a some of the code was rewritten. This now works with BBCode - (This includes line breaks, URLs, smilies, etc.). I've removed several lines and taken out have removed the dual option for SQL 4.1 or higher as a lot of people are still on the lower MySQL
What does this do? It allows you to take your news from your news forums (up to 9 news forums) and display them in a category-style fashion with the ability to add new content, reply to the original story, send to a friend, and print.
This works only for vbulletin 3.6.0 or higher.
There is a 3.7.x version here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=166966)
Install/Upgrade Instructions
Located in the zipped readme.txt file.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the forumid?
The forumid is the id of the forum you have created. Each forum has its own unique number assigned to it. When you click on a forum link you can see a number that is assigned to it. This will show up in the URL of the page you are browsing. Another way of seeing the forumid is to go to your admin control panel => Forums & Moderators => Forum Manager => Click on [Expand All] and then move your mouse over (hover) any of the forums you've created. Your status bar (bottom of screen) should display your forumid (number at the end of the link/url).
Changes
V. 1.2a Added security for admins
V. 1.2 Added support for Who's Online
Things in consideration for future releases
1) Menu system that dynamically displays a menu based on forum choices.
Known Bugs/Issues:
1) - When you go to the page directly, the page acts as a normal page - however, if you click refresh on the page, the refresh stalls. I don't understand why this occurs.

Yes, it can be done with some renaming of files and some changes to your settings. It will only work in the same directory as your forums though.

Better include in the future releases a category (with images) system, no? ;)
Just like "Slashdot News MOD" for phpBB if you know it ;)

hehe - I got excited :P
I noticed. I'll have yet another tidy up of the code (left myself notes all over the place) and check it on 3.6.4 and if it works then it should be released at weekend, but no promises that it will definately as I've got exams this week and the flu, so coding isn't high up the list of things to do atm.

I've been sick myself - very sick, and been waiting on trying to get my merger done. I just decided to go ahead and finish up some stuff before I work on my major projects (vbnl, vbb, vbb+mp3) merger comes first though. Which could be as soon as today. Hopefully I'll feel better by tomorrow. I've not had the flu, but had nasal and chest issues.

well i installed this News CMS (looks awesome)
but i got one little Problem, the Page is on the left
i want it to get to middle (center)
what do i need to edit?
davidw
01-17-2007, 02:35 PM
By default it is set to center on the page unless something is forcing it to the left. The templates tell it to center. However you can alter the template to a width of 100% rather than a fixed width and this should fix the issue.
Btw, don't forget to click install.

This will be an issue with your style in general. Check your header and footer templates for anything that could affect it.

the problem seems to be Internet Explorer 7

Hey!
Trying to get this working on a page outside the forum folder, a non vb page. I have included the vbnews.php file into the page i want to show my news, but it somehow destroys the design of the page. It should be 3 colums with the news in the middle and the tables separated with a vertical dotted line.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue?

I have a question about this, could I rename the news.php to say index.php and move it out of the forums folder?
Say I have
\index.php (renamed news.php)
\board\ (forums folder)
Will that work?
davidw
05-21-2007, 11:00 AM
Most likely, but you will need to edit each instance of vbnews.php and vbnews to index.php and index (respectively) in the php page. I've not tried it, but don't see why not.

I've had no luck getting this to work, out side of the forum folder. I keep getting the following error(s)
Warning: main(/home/aquasoft/public_html/includes/init.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/aquasoft/public_html/board/global.php on line 20

Try this...
change this
// ######################### REQUIRE BACK-END ############################
GLOBAL $parser;
require_once('./includes/class_bbcode.php');
require_once('./global.php');
$parser =& new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());
to this
// ######################### REQUIRE BACK-END ############################
GLOBAL $parser;
require_once('./includes/includes/init.php');
require_once('./includes/class_bbcode.php');
require_once('./global.php');
$parser =& new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());
Of course, you may have to edit the links to make them point directly to where the files are located based on this file's location.

Well seems this addon fits my needs perfect for my site. We wanted to have a specified forum's posts be like news on a main page. Right now it works perfect at http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/news.php problem is we really wanted to move that news.php file to the root of the site so we could access it at http://www.aqua-soft.org/index.php Hope that helps.

is there a way to edit the name of the mod, when displaying it on your forums?
Example atm its:
NAME OF FORUMS
--- vB News CMS
is there a way to edit the vB News CMS bit?
davidw

You can edit the vbnews.php file and find around line 499 (near the bottom):
$navbits[$parent] = 'vB News CMS'; and change it there. Save then reimport.

The best way to do something like this is to take the two files (xml and php) and rename practically all the variables, phrases, etc., anything that is particular to this modification. Theoretically you could do this as many times as you want as long as your forums will allow without having issues.

Currently those features (rank, avatar, etc. aren't set but I may include those in a future version).
