I am looking to add blogs to my forum, and am having difficulty deciding what route to take (i.e. what software).

I would apreciate feedback from people that have tried different journal or blog software and any suggestions you may have.

Thanks,

John

I think you'll like vBlogetin, though it's a commercial script ($50 while it's in beta). You can find a link to it in my signature.

To bad your script wont work with 3.5.x

Thanks for the suggestion (as biased as it is :lick: ). The software looks pretty good, but I have to say that not having vBSEO URLs along the lines of www.yoursite.com/blog/blogtitle is a big negative for me.

I will keep in under consideration though.

Any other suggestions?

I've been working on static links, and it's going into beta 3 within a month or so. These will work with and without vBSEO.

bada_bing, we are considering trying to extend it to 3.5.x. If it's just a matter of fixing the obvious changes (plugin execution order and cron export) then it's a definite possibility.

Does this mean that it does not run on vB 3.6.4?

No, it works on 3.6.x - but not 3.5.x and obviously not 3.0.x.

Good to hear!

Do you have a demo site up that I can see? I'm specifically looking for examples of blogs using your software preferably with integrated photos.

Thanks,

John

I'm working on compiling a list of live sites running it - that'll be up in the Pre-Sales Forum at vBlogetin.com pretty soon. Other than that, the site itself is running the application (and also powering the news).

SirAdrian,
I'm interested. Your site looks very clean. Would you be able to tell me what components/customization/style you have ?

It looks like you have vbulletin/vbadvanced/vbSEO/vBlogetin...

I'm in the process of redesigning my site. Just got 3.6.4 for few days. Still running Joomla and I'm thinking of getting the combo as you have.
Thanks

Thanks. You are right - I am using vBulletin, vbAdvanced CMPS, vBSEO and vBlogetin.

I used to really hate CMPS until I started editing the code, now it's actually quite flexible (I have 1 module acting as 3, modules changing depending on style, etc).

Basically I modified the module shell template to not use any tables, and had to make minor modifications to all of the stock modules so they are also tableless (though some require tables so I have that as a condition). This isn't necessary though, if you just modify your .tborder, .tcat, .thead, .alt1, etc CSS classes you can make them white.

The news is powered by vBlogetin, using custom templates that I plan to release for the actual application later.

Another modification that really makes it lose the standard vBulletin look is splitting your navbar up. I have the welcome/userinfo stuff in the header, navigation left as-is, and breadcrumbs below that.

Great job with the design of the site. I'm working to get a similar look.

I've been running joomla 1.0.11 and phpbb 2.0.21 for the last 6 months and I'm tired of hacking into the code everytime i install a new mode. I have around 50 mod, plugins, modules..on that site...and it's about time I let the software do work for me :)
In fact, I have the old forum still up and running at www.quantnet.org/forum while the vbulletin is at www.quantnet.org/forums

So it looks like i'm waiting for you guys to get beta 3 out ?

How difficult is it to configure the style and all the programs to have your site look ?

I want to have the news coming from some announcement on vBulletins, most viewed blog, some Calendar events.

It's been an ongoing project. It's not very hard though - especially if you don't mind having tables to start with (make them transparent / white).
