How do I add new smilies in the "Post new thread" or "Post reply" box?
Thanks.

I think you can just change the display number, so renumber the ones you want to display in your box as 1 onwards.

Unfortunately, that's not enough info for me. I need some very basic instructions. What do I need to add to the template and where does it go? Where can I get smilies? That sort of thing.

Go to AdminCP, scroll down to smilies, select upload smilie. Choose the smilie you desire, give it a title, enter the text code it will use ex: ._. , select a display order, then click on Upload.
It'll automatically show up in your reply box. If you don't see anything, go to your UserCP and select options, scroll down to Message Editor Interface, then select Enhanced Interface.
If you upload a lot of smilies and want to show all of them in the reply box, go to adminCP, then select vBulletin Options, scroll down to Message Posting Interface Options, then change the value of how many smilies you want.
Hope that's basic.

Does the smiley have to be in a particular file format? I was trying to turn a picture into a smiley so was trying to upload a jpeg file, but I keep getting a "* Invalid File Path Specified" error. Any ideas?
TIA!

When you get Invalid File Path Specified, that means the path you're saving your smilie to is invalid. Smilies are usually .gifs but there's really now requirement since it's simply accessing your ftp.
Double check your ftp to make sure the file path is correct. It technically should be images/smilies/
