What does it do?
When a user uploads or updates a file via DownloadsII a thread is created or updated in the specificed forum.

DownloadsII Create New Thread Add-On, is not a stand-alone mod. It requires DownloadsII 5.0.4 or higher.

Features
Ability to global select the forum that receives the new thread and the userid of the thread creator.
Ability to decide what forum receives the new thread and the thread creator based on the category of the file
Option to have the thread created by the uploader or always assigned to the same user account
Option to never create threads by category
Usergroup permissions for being allowed to create a new thread
Link added between thread in Downloads file detail (optional).
Updated Downloads entry creates new post in thread alerting of an update.
Database link to Downloads file entry removed if thread is deleted.
If the Downloads new entry is placed in moderation, so is the thread.
Option to have new threads locked.

Installation
Upload the files in the upload folder into your forum directory.
From the admincp, import the product file product-dl2_thread.xml
From the admincp, set the options under "DownloadsII - Create Threads"
Be sure to set the usergroup permissions!
Done!

In the thread, it will display whatever is in the "Description" of the file addition. If you've used an [img] tag in the description, that will display in the thread.

The attached pic shows a thread that was created from a file upload that had an [img] tag in the "Description"

No, I don't think that's possible. The images are added after the file entry is done in DownloadsII. That means the thread has already been created before the images are uploaded.

I'll try to figure out someway to do that but right now it's not set that way. I may be able to have an update to the thread done whenever an image is added. The update post could contain the image.

By default it is! Just leave the Default UserID as -1.

Personally I think.. if you would use the import feature.. I would rather have it to create 1 thread with the "New Files Added to "Category Name Goes Here" and then list the files in the post.. Because if you would to import 50 files.. creating 50 separate threads would flood out the forum.. So maybe that could be an option "Group Files in Thread on mass import"

Sorry, I forgot to remove that after exporting the product file. The product file in the attached zip has the "executionorder" removed so the product will install fine with vb ver 3.5.x and up.

Yes, I can stop being an idiot!!! :D Sorry, I missed one of the "executionorder" statements that cause the install to blow-up for vb 3.5.x. Please download the newly attached producted file, unzip it, and install product-dl2_thread.xml

No, there isn't a delay. In admincp -> Downloads - Create Threads -> Settings did you set "Always Create New Thread?" to "Yes" and specify a default forumid?

LOL, All That And I Cant Even Use It, I Get A Fatal Error Becuz Of Psionic Visions Battle Hack, WHich Also Interferes With The Mod Application Hack, Anything Used To Make A Thread Wont Work, If I Didnt Have A Rap Website, I Would Uninstall It, But Thanks Anyways, I Still Use Download II And Have Upgraded...

Yes, the thread should get created as soon as the new file is added to DownloadsII. Can you PM me your site url with an admin login and password? I'll check it out for you.

Permissions issue! :-)

The usergroups setting for the Admin group had a no for allowing threads to be created. (see attached) I changed it to Yes.

That should solve the issue.

Just a question as am testing on test board first, that when it creates the thread in forum, it also links to the thread in the file info no worries, but the link is incorrect in that it's missing part of it.

EG: - http://mytestsite.com/showthread.phpxxxx is what it shows as link to new thread

whereas it should read


http://mytestsite.com/test/showthread.phpxxxx

Anyone have any ideas how I can rectify this problem please?

The only way to do that is to edit the download entry once you've configured this add-on. If you edit the entry, the add-on will look to see if a thread already exists and create one if it doesn't. But, no "mass" way to do it.

I guess the hard part is would you want it to be an all or nothing thing. If you want all downloads that don't have a thread to have a thread created, that would be fairly simple. Is that what you are looking for?

DownloadsII itself is fully compatible with all 3.5.x AND 3.6.x vBulletin releases. We just put it there because most people aren't looking any more at the 3.5.x mod forums as they are running the vB 3.6.x series. This is clearly stated in the first post (font size 3, bold and in a color :D).

Also, Since i have so many categories and child categories in downloads i am having big problem with `Always create new thread` which is set to no.

I have Whole category set to no, but when i upload files to its child categories it will make the thread. I have tried to disable creation of thread on the child and it does work.

Is it anyhow possible, if i select not to create new thread for certain category not to create new threads for any child category in it.

Yes, that is an issue. Currently, this only works if the files are added normally. Imported files will not create a thread.

Look for the code below in plugins "DownloadsII Create Thread on Edit" and "DownloadsII Create Thread on Add" (admincp -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager)

I have followed the steps you have mentioned. Have created a global forum for newly created threads. Have set the settings under admin control panel for downloadII create thread. And have assigned Administrator group permissions like adding files to download section. But still no thread is created automatically in the forum i have specified. One thing I noticed is that if I include an image with IMG tags during upload it appears in the forum thread.

If I upload a file that has no permissions to create a thread or was a pre-existing file and then I edit it for the FIRST TIME and include an image tag it shows up.

However, if I edit the file and don't include an image, then go back later and include an image on a subsequent edit the image does NOT show up.

One other small bug, if someone else uploaded the file (prior to this mod) and then I edit the file causing a thread to be created, it creates the thread from me, not from the original uploader. It should check to see if this is a pre-existing file that is being edited IMHO, again minor bug and situational for those who have files before implementing this mod.

First of all, this is a great mod. Thank you to CyberRanger for all of the support he has given.

Second, I ran into the same problem many people are running into now and was able to resolve it. I was not getting the controls on the left side of the AdminCP. I just reinstalled the .xml file (clicked on overwrite) and then refreshed. It appeared and everything worked fine.

If I had to make a recommendation for the next update I would like to see the comments made under downloads.php to be added to the new thread as a reply.

We have 2 types of users.

Registered and Club Members

Registered users should be able to download free product and Club Members can download club and free product.

It seems that DownloadsII works only 1 way . Either allow or don't allow the group to download .Without permission to specific files or download category.

Does this feature exists?

i am not sure what happened ... hmmm .... well something had to happen! :-) Did you do a forum upgrade? Install any new plug-ins? Delete any users?

A few items to examine -


In your admincp, under Downloads - Create Threads -> Settings, is the Default UserID set as either "-1" or to a valid userid?
Does the user trying to add the file have permissions to create the thread in the designated forum?
If the category is set to go to a specific forum, is the category using a valid userid?


If you are still having problems, you can also PM me your site information along with an admin (vb) username and password. I'll check it out for you.

I think i found a problem,... recently i changed usergruop id , but i forgot to change it in the plug in,....

btw, i have another question:
In the Edit category, do i have to do edit for only a category or i have to edit all the subs as well.

if i select not to create thread to the `category` do i have to change it to no to subs or its gonna work anyway?

Ok ive been running with this addon for the last few weeks and .... Fantastic! Great idea, but... I'm going to have to remove it :(

Why would i do such a thing?

Well it does exactly what it says it does and creates a new thread in a specified forum for a post mad on downloadsii but that basically is all it does. Its missing the little extras that i would like to have seen like for example..

When a download gets deleted so, should the forum post.
When a download gets edited so, should the forum post.
When a download gets moved to a different category, so should the forum post.

As my forum is centered around downloads it making twice as much work so im thinking that i would be better off without it and living without the forum posts.

Unless.... There is an update coming soon including the above.

But like i say, fantastic addon just a bit basic.

Hi, i have just added this mod to my website but for some reason its not working.. i have added all the forums and assigned them to downloadsII but when i add a new file to DownloadsII it doesnt add a new thread in my forum.

I am running DownloadsII 5.0.8 & VB 3.7.4

I followed the installation info and set the permissions etc but it still doesnt seem to work.

From what I can tell this does not work as threads are not being created in the forum I have designated. I have triple checked forum permissions, usergroup permissions, and the hacks settings to ensure I have all the proper settings.

forums, anywhere.. this basicly means there is something wrong. but i think
somewhere you can enable / disabled this to be shown but then it would
show all over your forum not just in a specifik forum/thrads

Well Thanks Geek for that... If a mod is declared "SUPPORTED" by the author then a simple question should get a simple answer. If you notice, the author has not been on line for a month. Some of us own/run VBulletin boards which are in effect a business so it is important to get these answers rapidly as technical issues arise.

I've had a request from our users to have the "New File Added" tag be automatically removed after a set period of time. I realize that this modification is no longer really supported by the original developer.

Perhaps someone else might be able to tell us how to make this possible?

Im using cybs advanced forums...
with this mod theres no need for an attachment image so
and you can have a no attachment image shown next to it....
not sure if you can show the attachment column without that mod...
but with advanced forums, you can choose which image is shown for each and no1 would ever know its supposed to be an "attachment" image...

i have several download folders and they have subfolders like forums and subforums

when i add a moderator to a motherforum they automaticly become moderators of the subforums

with the DownloadsII Create New Thread Add-On i would like it if this was the same
now we have to edit each folder main or sub
is there a way to do this ? or is this not possible with the mod ?

You can do a search and replace in your posts table (as there will be other old links to, not only from this DownloadsII add-on): http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?315107-changing-internal-links-to-a-new-domain (backup your database first!)

And the best thing is to setup redirects on your old domain name. Don't put it offline, that's bad for your SEO.

If you run it correctly, it really should work.
What did phpMyAdmin say afterwards? It should say something like "x rows updated/affected". If the number is zero, then there's something wrong :)

The only thing to note is that there's a parsed posts cache ("Cached Posts Lifespan" in the "Server Settings and Optimization Options"). You could set it temporarily to 0 to check if the post table is really updated.

Have the following problem after the switch to VB 4

I had the Adoon DownloadsII Create thread earlier in vb 3 and since there is no more I wanted to uninstall it as I have uninstalled all other.

Under the Manage Add-on directory I put the corresponding add-on to remove and I keep getting the following error:

Ich hatte das Adoon DownloadsII Create Thread fr?her im Vb 3 und da es ja nicht mehr geht wollte ich es deinstallieren wie ich auch alle anderen deinstalliert habe.
