View Full Version : Customisable 'My Favourite' forums

Hi folks.
Here's a suggestion for a very funky hack for those people who have lots of forums. Our users want to customise their view of our forumlist so that they quickly see their favourite forums.
Users click on a forum to add it to 'their favourites list'.
All the favourite forums appear under a new 'category' (top level non-postable forum) in the forum list. If they add a forum and it's child forum then that parent-child relationship is maintained in the favourites.
The position of the favourites category is (optionally) customisable by the user to be either at the top or the bottom of the other forums.

What we end up with is giving our members the ability to select their favourite forums and build their own category containing them. For big forums where people have to scroll the page down a lot, it would really help members to quickly see their favourites.

I konw this can be achieved within tabbed browsers to an extent but it requires some work and is not portable.
What do you think? Potential HOTM candidate?

Might not be what you wanted, but I made a quick and light favorite forum hack.

There is no need to be senselessly hostile.

Sorry about that. Anyway Attilitus, when are you gonna fix up your hack and everything 'cause I'm really forward to it. :D

Very soon. It was just caused by me missing the last few (very vital) lines of code on one of my stock code snippets.

There were also a few compatibility issues that were fixed as well with PHP5, non-mysql databases, and VBSEO.

Oh awesome. I can't wait for it. Though I'm hoping to see the hack to look exactly like GameSpot's, then I'd be happy to make a donation for you. :D
