This modification will remove the arrows (menu_open.gif) next to dropdown links like Search, Quick Links, Forum Tools, etc.
These are common links on the forumdisplay and thread pages. It's also in the navbar template.
Of course, you can use a small blank image and save it as menu_open.gif, but there are times when this simply isn't an option.

Removing an arrow from the navbar template
As an example I'm going to edit the navbar template, located under 'Navigation / Breadcrumb Templates'.
Find the following code:

<script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("navbar_search"); </script>
Replace it with the following:
Changes are highlighted.

<script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("navbar_search", true); </script>
As you may have noticed you simple add ', true' after the first variable. Repeat this for all links you'd like changed.

Search for dropdown menus
If you want to change specific dropdown menus but you're not sure in what template they are, or you're not sure if you've actually changed all dropdown menus in a template, then you can search for them.

In your admin CP go to 'Styles & Templates', then 'Search in Templates'.
At the top, select your style from the menu, paste "); </script> in the textfield and click 'Find'.

Search and replace all dropdown menus in one time
If you want all dropdown menus changed in one time, you should go to your admin CP, open 'Styles & Templates', then click on 'Search in Templates'.
Now go to the the second table, with the heading "Find and Replace in Templates (be careful!)".
First select your style from the menu. Paste "); </script> in the first textfield and ", true); </script> in the second.

Removing all arrows with CSS
ForumDog (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=152044) was so kind to PM me with a way to remove all arrows at once, with CSS.
In your admin CP go to 'Styles & Templates', 'Style Manager' and next to the style you want this applied to, select 'Main CSS' from the dropdown menu.

At the bottom of this page, add the following CSS code:
.vbmenu_control img {
display:none;
}

This will hide all images in the table cells with the CSS class vbmenu_control.

This is ideal for forums with a crowded navbar. I found the arrows take up much more space than they look. However, have a look here: http://azhforum.co.uk/index.php

The arrow is removed from Search but not from Quick Links or the Gallery. I searched the navbar template for "navbar_search" and added , true after it, but it only appeared once.

Any suggestions?

Hi, the first one is an example of the search link. You have to search for the javascript function, not 'navbar_search'.
There is a second dropdown link in the navbar by default and it's called 'usercptools'.

I've updated my first post with information on how to find these dropdown menus and how to remove all arrows in one time, using Find and Replace.
