I haven't installed either this or the thanks hack on my board because its small and I don't think it would get much use.

But they both appear to be great hacks from the screenshots.

Now that you have both, in future versions, have you thought about combining them into one hack and make an option to use one or both. Since it seems they do very similar things.

If combined with a way to alter reputation, that would be a killer hack.

They work together now that if a user thanks or groans a post, they can't do the other to the post also. I just never did the rep thing yet in the groan hack. I'll try to get it in soon. You should click 'install' here so you'll get an email when I release the new version.

In the post groan options there is an option integrate both hacks so one user can't do back to the same post.

I got this requested on my site only the other day, but they wanted to call it the sucks button lol, so I said no to that idea, however now that you have called it the groan button, and maybe I'll only let certain usergroups use it, I think it is a fantastic idea.

Well done.

I think what he meant was, scrap this thread and the thanks thread, and combine them into one hack.

and as an option in the admincp, you have enable/disable thanks .... enable/disable groan etc. so that way, updating will be a lot easier.

If you would do this, it would be ideal for most people I feel.

I was thinking about this groan hack as a collaborative moderation tool

1. After x-groans post will be hidden (only "show" link will replace the post).
or
2. post will be deleted (pretty hard option)
or
3. user will get PM to auto-censore-delete his post, or he might just check his groaned-posts and do it voluntarily (I do not have big expectations here)

BUT look what a GREAT addition was made to this add-on here:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1117856&postcount=14
-----------------------------------

Abe1, any chance to turn this add-on to collaborative-moderation tool?
It will do huge work for any big forum .-)

Hello!

I've been toying with this and your thank you to make it fit my board a bit more. I don't want to get people mad at each other for a groan, however I think it's a nice tool if it could be done without the person knowing who groaned.

Anyway my question. Do you know how I would just put that there are X amount of groans for a post in the postbit instead of Name (date)? I didn't put it in the postbit as of right now so that they can't see who did it. LOL But it'd be nice for those posts you'd like to groan on without really getting involved. :)

Thanks!

Instead of keeping a separate groan count, can this be made to subtract from a users "thank you" count? Even the ability for people to have negative points.

Maybe a donation would help achieve this? ;)

first of all, this is a gr8 hack like the post thanks hack. few days ago i added this on my forum. hoped it'll reduce junk/off topic posts. but what ppls were doing is for example, If i give a groan to someone, that users finding one of my older post & give groan. lol kinda like fight. so i was forced to disable it.

So Abe1, if you add these 2 options:

1. Will need reason (like reputation) to give a groan
2. cant give groan if the post if X (X = admin set) days older.

then it'll be perfect & users wont be able to abuse it.

thanks

require reason can be ON/OFF from admincp. so its up to forum admins, if they want make it easy for the user end, but i think it should a must have option to stop abuse this hack.

as i understood groan hack dont decrease repputation. does it?
maybe it will be better that it will?
and one more moment?
is it possible to do - that when user push thanx or groan button reputation increased or decreased in accordance with user's power of reputation? not fixed points of reputation...

You should add a reputation modifier for a groan, just like a thank. A thank you should give reputation, while a groan should lower it. And I agree on requiring a reason.

Once you include the reputation part for this hack, I'll definately install both of them. I hope to scrap the other reputation stuff, and just use Thank/Groan as the foundation for the entire reputation on my forum. The original reputation system is just too complicated for users to bother with, but this is the ideal solution, so hopefully you'll have it ready in not too long. If all works out, be sure to expect a donation (can't promise anything too big though) coming your way :)

This Mod unusable :

1. If a User is on the Groan Blacklist he creates a Gron and a Thanks if Thanks-Hacks is installed. Even if the Compatibility is activated in the AdminCP.

2. The Thanks Hack has a Cacherefresh at AdminCP - the Groan Hack has not.

3. You allways have to refresh the Browser before a Groan is shown after clicking the Button.

4. Sometimes there are Database Errors - not everytime but sometimes if Bug 1.) is happening.

All these thinks happens since Months and it seems there will be no Update ?

One Suggestion :

It was nice if only Users with X Posts can use the Button. There are to much new Users that use the Button without any Realreasons.

Evrsoft counts them for me but you can never be sure it that line count includes comments, unexpanded includes, etc. But if it helps, line 296 is the line after the "//execute hook" line:

// finish prepping the post
$this->prep_post_end();

// execute hook
($hook =& vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('postbit_display_complet e')) ? eval($hook) : false;

// evaluate template
$postid =& $post['postid'];
eval('$postbit = "' . fetch_template($this->templatename) . '";');

eval('$retval = "' . fetch_template('postbit_wrapper') . '";');

Hope to solve it without installing the thank you

Abe1, very nice Mod.

I think it can replace the reputation button, since most reputation comments are useless and there is no a real need to keep them.

Could you please add the setting, so that reputation points that a user receives being thanked/groaned will be determined by reputation power of thanker/groaner? Now it is determining by fixed constant in admin control panel, but it will be nice if it will act just like the original reputation button works ("thanks" add an amount equal to reputation power of thanker, "groan" subtracts amount equal to 1/2 of reputation power of groaner).

Thus we can get rid of reputation button and stay with "thanks/groan".

Version 3.2 (05/21/07):

Fixed a template caching bug.
Fixed an error that would come up if you did not have Post Thanks installed. Even if you do, there was a big bug in checking if a user gave a groan or not.
No file edits. Just upload the product XML.

I just upgraded to 3.67

This also happens with the "thank you" hack

Should it be linking to www.site.com/post_groan.php?do=post_groan_add...etc....

I just thought about something that could be added to this hack (I dont actually use it in my forums, but I was browsing this thread and had this idea). If a post has X amount of groans, it could be automatically deleted or the main postbit thing be converted into a message saying "This post has been rated by the community as a bad post, if you still want to read it please click here" or something like that.

The admincp could have a few options so it can be selected how many groans would be needed to make the post disappear, which usergroups to be bypassed by this function and so on.

I've never seen this turn-arround for vbulletin and it would be handy. If it's already made, im sorry.

Keep up the good work Abe, I have installed most of your hacks-mods :) A quality coder indeed.

Installed this on vB 3.6.8 using Default templates and already had the Thank You Hack working fine. Seem to go fine, Groan button is on the postbit, but when I click the button, the screen simply refreshes and both the Thank You and Groan buttons disappear from that post window; however, they still appear on post windows above and below that specific post. If I refresh the page, they reappear in the original window, but nothing is happening? If I click the Thank You button in that same window, everything works as expected. I tried reverting my postbit template, but that didn't help either.
Any advice?

What are you talking about? This is the Groan thread, I didn't bump it anywhere. I simply asked for help again, and had the courtesy to put my previous post to insure whomever finally did reply knew what I was talking about.

As far as your recomendations, thank you, but been there and done that. Tried on several different computers with clean browser histories. This is a fresh vBulletin install from around January 2, 2008. Templates are up to date...and the Thank You hack works fine. It is the Groan hack with which I am having problems...it is currently disabled due to the problems stated in my original post.

This is concerning the following:

Open template: navbar

find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="search.php$session[sessionurl_q]" accesskey="4" rel="nofollow">$vbphrase[advanced_search]</a></td>
</tr>
--------------------------------------------------------------------

place AFTER:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
$template_hook[navbar_search_menu]

My style, unfortunately, has the nav buttons in the header template. This is causing the search feature to not work.

Any Suggestions?

No, I am running my forum on dedicated server, and the PHP Memory Limit is 16MB.

- I'd Also be nice that if an Admin or a Moderator Groans a Post, it'd be Automatically be Collapsed, no matter the number of Groans on that Post.

- Also would be Nice that a Message Appears on the Collapsed Posts that Says that "This Posts is Hidden (Collapsed) because Has Been Groaned Too Many Times (or by Too Many Users)"

By doing this, Bad (Groaned) Posts could not get the same Attention as Good Posts, and would be a Great Additional Functionality for this Excellent Mod.

For reporting Posts vBulletin already has the Option to Warn Moderatores and Admins, but to Hide Groaned Posts this Mod would be Great.

I Hope you can Add this Ideas to your Next Update.

My Best Regards.

:)

^^ In addition to the Previous Ideas, I'd like to share one more:

- When integrated with the Post Thank You Hack, another Yes/No Option can be added so that if a Moderator or a Administrator Clicks on the Thank You Button of the Post Hidden by other Users, the Post can be Displayed; in the case one Moderator Says Yes and other Moderator Says No, I think the Post Should Stay Hidden, but if an Administrator Click on the Thank You Button, the Post Should Always be Displayed no matter if a Moderator Click Groan to it.

- Would be Great that in an Option in the Hack at the Admin Control Panel, the User can Specify some Code to Introduce (Image, Table, etc) or to introduce the Default Message when a Post is Hidden because of too many Groans (greater than the Maximum Specified to Hide Posts).

If you can do that and the other ideas I shared with you in my previous Post, and this don't Add too much Weight (Too many Queries) to the Load of Pages, this can be a Great Success.

My Best Regards.

:)

Installed and though the actual groaning is working fine, I'm having a couple of issues ever since installing it:

-I no longer see the "remove my thanks" link in the Thanks hack box, though "delete own thanks" is set to yes. Removing my own groan works fine though.
-the "remove all" link for Thanks hack is present but doesn't work. The page reloads but the thanks doesn't get removed.
- the Groan stats aren't displayed in the profile, though the Thanks stats are

Can I have both the groan and thank you hacks installed? Or will this create compatibility issues between the two?

Please find in the upload a custom version of the groan hack for 3.6.8

We have not changed any code whatsoever in terms of functionality, only name changes and image changes.

We take no credit whatsoever for ABES hacks, and have only uploaded this to prove we use ABE's hacks, and to share a different version, a version with which we use on our sites.

Spank You instructions and credits intact.

Ozzy

ADD: we use this on 3.7.2 , with no issues whatsoeverSame here. We turned every forum member into a comedian by substituting thanks with laugh. We will happily revert back if this is a problem.

In the post groan options there is an option integrate both hacks so one user can't do back to the same post.

So both plugins can be installed though? Thank you and Groan hacks?

After Years using both (Thanks and Groan) i have now uninstalled both of them.

In fact for me and a lot of other Admins it makes no sence to use the Post Thanks Hack without the Groan Hack and Groan was not updated for a long Time now.

I have send some PMs about this to Abe1 and everytime i get the same Answer that he will updated the Groan Hack soon. But nothing happens ..... :(

Ban Usergroups
Any UsergroupID placed here will ban any user from that group from using this hack. They will still see if others clicked 'Groan' but not see the button.
Enter a list of usergroupID numbers, separated by a | (for example: 1|2|3).

I set that to 1,2,3,4,8
but not works:
all usergroups still shows GROAN Button.

any help,
urjent plz
i'm using 3.6.8

Can you perhaps include a max groans per day setting, with the same addition requested by me in the thanks thread, allowing usergroups to be exempt from this setting? Also, could you perhaps include the option to not show the groans in the postbit? I've removed them, but I don't see a drop in queries... not sure if I should, but if it could speed up the server a bit, then so much the better.

Is it possible to change the font color and size (and remove the bold) of "The Following User Says NO Thank You to For This Shitty Post:" part?

Do you think I can install and use this on 3.7.4? I recently added the Thanks mod and we love it. It'd be nice to have a counter-balance.

This may be a dumb question, but is there an easy way not to diplay the "thanks" and "groans", but only "thanked" and "groaned" stats. I know the templates can probably be edited, but my editing knowledge is very limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Beh :)

I got a problem with the butto, I installed long time ago the post thanks hack and other hacks, now I installed this but I got a button between the thanks and groan button.
How can I do to select the buttons order so the thanks and groan buttons stay together?
Tnx!
