Lets not turn this thread into what Google finds acceptable and not ok. It gets real old in every "Google" thread having to read everyone go "ohhh this violates google TOS ohhhh".

If you want to know what you can and cant do with Google try contacting them.

It looks good on your forum because your forum listings already look a lot like the google ads anyway. Mine aren't such a good match and wouldn't look as nicely 'integrated.'

i think its an excellent idea and a great job with the coding, but its not worth risking having my account banned from google

Well, rather than heeding the advice of all the armchair lawyers -- here's Google's TOS regarding Ad Placement:

Ad Placement Up to three ad units may be displayed on each Web site page.
A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.
A single link unit may be placed on each Web site page, in addition to the ad units and search boxes specified above. Link units are considered to be 'Google ads' for purposes of these program policies.
A single referral button per product may be placed on a page up to a maximum of 4 buttons, in addition to the ad units, search boxes, and link units specified above. Referral buttons are considered to be ‘Google ads’ for purposes of these program policies.
No Google ad may be placed on any non-content-based pages.
No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email.
No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.
Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads, and the ad colors must be such that any ad elements, including text and URL, are visible.
Clicks on Google ads must not result in a new browser window being launched.

What if you running vbadvance and have content on the left or right hand block? surely this counts as content?. Also im stummped how to edit where to add these. As in

This is a comma delimited list of where you would like to limit the first slot to being.

the numbers are the forums to show after (basicly count your first category as one and count down from there)

Would it be posible to put the ads (pirticularly Google) into a content page, or post, on my site? Not just the forum home or dislay thing. If there was then that would be great.

There are so many of these great mods but alot of them don't comply with googles strict TOS which is very annoying for me as I like to do things by the book. So if there was a way that you could use this on actual content pages or posts within my forum then that would be great. For now I will install and use a different ad provider for the forum listing. Thanks. :)

Man, Google lists their TOS for all to see. There is no 'guessing'. Read them. Also, people seem to think Google is a big evil monster who will ban you overnight and devour your children.

The Google AdSense team is quite helpful and informative. You're free to set your site up however you like and then request a 'site check', where someone from Google will verify ad placement and let you know if you're in violation of the TOS or not. They will then give you a time frame (usually 30 days) to comply or risk removal from the AdSense program.

I've been using placement similar to this for almost 2 years, and I've had at least half a dozen 'site checks' performed. Each time I've been within Google's TOS. Stop assuming. Start reading.

I doubt it is. If you have to "look hard to notice them in the forum list" that can be considered as tricking users into clicking which isn't what google wants.

Ok this should settle Everything.
I contact google and requested a "site check" I have the forum listads installed and had google look at everything, and this is what they had to say.

Hi Quincy,

Thanks for taking the time to check in with us. I've looked at your site
and it appears that the implementation of your Google ads is compliant
with our policies.

We appreciate your proactive efforts to keep your account in good standing
and look forward to your continued participation in AdSense.

For additional questions, I'd encourage you to visit the AdSense Help
Center (http://www.google.com/adsense_help), our complete resource center
for all AdSense topics. Alternatively, feel free to post your question on
the forum just for AdSense publishers: the AdSense Help Group

spelletjes of forumdiscussies. Bovendien mogen uitgevers specifieke

@DefenceTalk
To answer your question...I just installed the ads about 12 hours ago and the results are AWESOME! I've earned much more revenue today than I normally would have. I absolutely LOVE this mod.

@eXtremeTim
This is a GREAT mod but I would like to see some changes in this mod. I would like there to be 2 seperate templates for the 2 ads or even make it customizable to have 3 since I think 3 ads is the limit you can have perpage. The reason for seperate templates is so you can track which ads and which location of ads are making you the most money. When you can track (using the channels) your ad revenue, you can maximize your earnings.

Also, sometimes the ads are showing up in btwn some forums that I didn't indicate them to be btwn...anyone else having that problem? And I've also noticed that sometimes the ads aren't showing up...I looked at the code and I nothing jumped out at me...but do you have it so that the ads are "hidden" at times?

Again, great mod! I highly recommend this, especially since this isn't violating adsense's TOS. I've earned quite a bit more money today than I normally would and I'm lovin' it :) Thanks!!!!!!!!

Sorry bro, don't see any ads on your site

Oh yes, my ads are not listed.
This hack is a violation of Google's TOS.
I took the "extra 5 minutes" and contacted them to make sure it is ok. I even sent them a screen shot to better illustrate the ad placement.

This is a violation, but I know this is not intended to be solely for Google Ads.

If you use this hack and Google, and they find out about it, you better be ready to kiss your adsense account good bye.

for example i use this hack with adbrite and it displays same ads on both the units.. is it possible to use different codes for different ad units.?

Just to clarify about google adsense (even though the guy stated it a few posts above me), but they just updated the TOS and they do not allow any images next to your ads to make it look like its a link on your website.
