Okay I am having problems with my godaddy shared hosting and called them up and asked them why is it running so slow after 15 minutes on the phone they had told me that it is running slow because of this forum software. They told me that the forum software is what is making it run slow.
I had asked them if a virtual dedicated server would make it fast and they told me that it may, but they are not sure. I then asked if I could test it to see if it would run fast on it, but they said no.
Please what do I do know. I think vbulletin should contact godaddy as they are saying the the forum software is why it is slow and that they also said that this php is very hackable(what does that have to do with speed?)
I don't know what to do now, any help is greatly appreciated

I really don't think it will be your vBulletin unless you have a medium to large sized forum as these generally don't run too well on shared hosting.
Personally I've been using shared hosting for over three years (changed providers in summer after a big problem with my original host but still to another shared hosting account with another provider) and have around 60,000 posts with a low average users online count.
However, I have heard a lot of bad reports about godaddy hosting, so it might be worth looking into another provider.
Out of curiosity, what are your current site stats (from the forumhome page) and average users online?
Also, if you are on linux hosting then on your admincp index page you will have 3 server load averages figures. They will look something like 3.39 4.18 4.27 If you could also post them it would be appreciated. If you cannot find them (they are next to the number of users online) then you are probably on windows hosting so they won't show up.

As Kerry-Anne said, the size of your forum is key here. If you have a big board on cheap hosting, it doesn't matter what forum software you run, it will be slow.
Other factors are how, exactly, your shared host is set up. Which PHP version, what webserver, etc, etc. There are a ton of factors that can lead to slow performance, and imo vBulletin being the cause is way, way down on the bottom of that list.
I think vbulletin should contact godaddy as they are saying the the forum software is why it is slow and that they also said that this php is very hackable
Hogwash. PHP is as secure or insecure as you make it. Nothing is completely hack-proof, but even with the most basic security policies in place, you're good to go against 90% of the routine script-kiddies out there. You just got a lazy tech on the phone that didn't want to help you and threw you a cop-out to get you off of the phone.

If I were you I'd look for another host, I've yet to see anything good about GoDaddy. There are plenty of hosts for just a few £($) a month.

I had the exact same problem with them, slow, unresponsive servers on godaddy and they gave me the same lame excuse. Eventually I got tired of them an moved hosts and I am glad to say my problems all went away and I am much happier with my current host.

I use GoDaddy for domain name purchases only, and host all my sites with SurpassHosting (I've been with them for a couple of years now and I'm well-pleased). I work with a couple of clients who use asmallorange, and their service seems excellent as well.

I had the exact problem with them..they would tell me the scripting for vbulletin was too server intensive and I should go with another software ect...then I decided to go with the virtual dedicated server. it is working a charm. I think they have too many on their servers personally.I am sorry you are going thru this...my members were getting so tired of it. I know how you feel. I hope you find a better solution. :)

I also use vBulletin on GoDaddy, today it ran slower than usual then it speeded up around a hour later, I suggest wait a bit, if it's more than a day, I would suggest finding a new host or remove vbShout if you have that cause it does slow down vBulletins' Database loading a bit.

I am sorry it took me so long to get back with you..It is really fast...I am not sure how fast but it only takes seconds to load a page of pictures. I am paying 68 per mth..which is alot but it is worth it for me. I have 1000gb of bandwidth I have 256 Ram, uhmmm lets see oh I have 50gb of disk space. if you only use 500gb bandwidth it will knock the price down to 48 per mth.
Or maybe you can move to another company...Good Luck :D

asmallorange used to be good but they over sell and eventually your site is slow as anything.I had server loads on there of over 45 and board was forever going down due to host.
I moved to a different host and things never improved much but eventually found a good hoster (scaraweb.com) been with em about 7 months now and glad to say had no probs with them at all.

I am also using godaddy and my site has been slow off & on for a long time now. :( It's really frustrating sometimes. Every time I call, they tell me it's a problem on my end. I HATE GODADDY.
I have a very small board - just a little over 60 members. It should not run as slow as it does. :(

Change them, they are very nasty... I have vb 3.6.8 (3 mods installed) and on peak moments i don't hit more then 100 users online anyway 10 days ago they cut me off
3 times (after a server move too better everyones services?!?) telling me that vb uses Malicious Codes and that my board was causing other clients damage and BS like that.
In my experience all that i can say is that their servers are super crowded, they have very bad tecnicians that are unable to resolve any type of problem so they tell their superiors that it's the clients fault and another thing -> godaddy has a marketing strategy = You must go dedicated or virtually dedicated (more cash)... well i did try a month of virtually dedicated hosting with them so now i can confirm that they are super crowded (it's their fault and not ours!!!) because within this month the server load was at 0.43 at peak moments anyway i would suggest you to find a virtually dedicated server (Not Godaddy) so stay away from them!!!
Remember that they give (unless you pay for it on the side) No support whatsoever (dedicated/virtual) and furthermore they install the oldest versions of myphp, mysql myadmin and so forth but the worst thing of all is that your my.cnf file is totally unconfigured = blank so you'll loose alot and alot of time configuring it, took them 20 days just to tell me the server specs so i could do so, be aware of them and look elsewhere.
PS. And please remember that it's always your fault and not theirs just yours and only yours!!! haha

Excuses excuses from hosts... Tell them they should optimize their darn servers to accept any and all clients if they are so called "Big Timers." You should ask them for a copy of your my.cnf file on the server to see how well it's optimized and their httpd.conf file:
(This is from a server that holds over 1200 websites, and has much more room for more :) )
Timeout 150
KeepAlive On
MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
KeepAliveTimeout 10
MinSpareServers 5
MaxSpareServers 10
StartServers 5
MaxClients 125
MaxRequestsPerChild 45However all of this is calculated by determining how much memory is needed.... For an example you determine your apache processes are using 4MB of memory each, and under peak load, you find that you are running 125 processes, then you will need at a bare min of 500MB of RAM in the server just to handle this amount of process. Because memory is also needed for the OS or any other applications and services running on the system, in addition to apache and so it's reality here you will need more than this amount.
Just thought I would give a bit of pointers to pass onto GoDaddy's SYSADMIN that they hired from where?
If you aren't able to see the processes directly as root or su, you may want to see if they have mod_status installed by using the server-status handler inside your site to see how much is being used and etc...
Now on keepalive settings this can be a critical role to apache there as well... This is why it's so "unresponsive" probably clogged up with tons of hanging processes. Anyhow hope any of this can help and if you want run a command from ssh to see how well your site performs as such:
ab -n 1000 -c 10 http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php see below as I just ran one:

Go with dreamhost. What I like now is they added a feature where you can added certain amounts of ram and processer dedication to your shared account (like vPS on the go). Anyways, I've never seen my site down and runs in top shape. Godaddy, netfirms, globat, and powweb (on my hit list) are worthless. Give them a shot.

Not offhand I don't tonight no time to figure it out for free that is, perhaps tomorrow sometime, but you do need to perhaps play around with my my.cnf and add a line or two, restart mysql by /etc/init.d/mysql restart or /etc/init.d/mysqld restart (depends on the OS) however type in SSH: uname -r and this will spit out your kernel version... I can imagine this hasn't been updated and compiled...
Then type in: sysctl -p
This will show me what you got configured to adjust your kernel parameters, because this is pretty essential to keep the kernel from going into panic mode! As the linux kernel stores many of it's dynamic parameters in the /proc file system, which resides on a virtual RAM disk in memory for maximum performance. Parameters are generally categorized by function within subdirectories of the /proc folder :)
Be very careful on this area, as it's not something fool with if you are new to this area, so I would suggest you read up on this, or if you have the money to hire an real sysadmin that knows kernels that has at least 10+ years that is! I don't care if they have under 10 because I wouldn't hire them if they did :) (Don't need none, hack my own kernels).
Also I suggest turning off processes that are NOT even needed by the system.
However I would make you a my.cnf but it takes time and time :) time is although money, so long story short. I would rather much post in the forums here to help you and then others so they can learn.
So you got questions feel free to ask here!

I use GoDaddy for domain name purchases only, and host all my sites with SurpassHosting (I've been with them for a couple of years now and I'm well-pleased). I work with a couple of clients who use asmallorange, and their service seems excellent as well.
I gotta agree with ya there on the domains.
I have about 13 domain names with godaddy. I started hosting with them and didn't even have a small sized forums it was about 50 registered users 100 posts, and maybe 5 online. SImply put GoDaddy's servers are overcrowded which is what causes the slow speeds.
As far as I can see I would suggest a staffmember closes this thread as it has turned into an advertisement/who is a good host deal and I think the creator of the thread has gotten what he/she needs
