View Full Version : New Posting Features - GTSmiliebox - Move Smilies Below Editor

Princeton

NEW 1.1.0 VERSION (product-gtsmiliebox.xml)

No edits are necessary. If upgrading from a previous version you can revert the "editor_toolbar_on" and "editor_smiliebox" template.

Custom modification brought to you by Joe Velez (aka Princeton vbulletin.org Admin).

Please support by donating, "Mark As Installed", and/or "Nominate for MOTM".

Sites with a lot of simlies and fixed-width layouts occasionally run into the "smilie-box-stretch-outside-box" problem.

View attachment image to see what I mean.

Instructions:

* Upload product-gtsmiliebox.xml via Plugins & Products Manager and you are done.

You can have smilies above textbox when use

<if condition="$smiliebox">
<tr>
<td class="controlbar">$smiliebox</td></td>
</tr>
</if>
<tr valign="top">
<td class="controlbar"><textarea name="message" id="{$editorid}_textarea" rows="10" cols="60" style="width:$stylevar[messagewidth]; height:{$editor_height}px" tabindex="1" dir="$stylevar[textdirection]">$newpost[message]</textarea></td>

I have the same problem but its only on the private messages part where it shows a large space on the right its strange if you put it in dreamweaver it shows it as a iframe but if you look at the source there is no iframe. Princeton did you edit something to make it not show the large box on the private messages page?

DementedMindz
02-01-2007, 01:14 PM
ok figured it out it was User Control Panel Message Area Width (pixels) in the STYLE MANAGER / Stylevars

DementedMindz
02-01-2007, 08:14 PM
ok I found a bug. If you go to Edit Options (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/profile.php?do=editoptions) in you usercp and your on Standard editor (Message Editor Interface). And then you go to private message someone and you click on Switch Editor Mode in a private message the box gets huge and if you click it again it does not go back to the original size. Its like it here too on vbulletin.org also.

Princeton
02-01-2007, 09:59 PM
this mod shouldn't have an affect on anything as this is merely a table/row edit

post a screenshot ...
browser? version?
OS?

DementedMindz
02-01-2007, 10:08 PM
you can test it out on this site right here just goto Edit Options in you usercp then chose Standard editor and once that is done go to compose a message in private messages or go to send one and click on Switch Editor Mode and it will do the same on this site right here too. it happens on ie and firefox.

Princeton
02-01-2007, 10:12 PM
nothing happens ... tested on IE 7 and Firefox

please post screenshots

I was under the impression that you left out the smilies change to Quick Edit. You have Rules Near Editor (applied to all editor box ) and GTSmilies (applied to all editor except Quick Reply)

I have seen drop down Smilies box on Quick Edit mod before but they are not as nearly nice as yours. Also, it requires you to click on drop down menu and choose one at at time. Not nearly as efficient.

I have even tried this myself by

FIND IN editor_toolbar_on:

<if condition="THIS_SCRIPT!='profile'">
<div class="smallfont" align="center"><strong>$vbphrase[posting_rules]</strong>:
<phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=bbcode" 2="$bbcodeon">$vbphrase[vb_code_is_x]</phrase>,
<phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=showsmilies" 2="$smilieson">$vbphrase[smilies_are_x]</phrase>,
<phrase 1="misc.php?$session[sessionurl]do=bbcode#imgcode" 2="$imgcodeon">$vbphrase[img_code_is_x]</phrase>,
<phrase 1="$htmlcodeon">$vbphrase[html_code_is_x]</phrase>
</div>
</if>
<input type="hidden" name="wysiwyg" id="{$editorid}_mode" value="$editortype" />

ADD BEFORE

<tr>
<td class="controlbar">$smiliebox</td></td>
</tr>

But obviously, it does not work...

Would you want me to post a SShot?

And also is it possible to place the POST ICONS on the right side?

GeekDrew
02-20-2007, 09:38 PM
What you did was decrease the default 3 columns to 2 columns. You want to *increase* that number to however many columns you want, and it will calculate the number of rows automatically.

Ok I read the whole thread, maybe someone was having the same problem...
The hack works flawless, but when you remove the smilies-box from the right the whole Editor stays in the same place, I mean... I want/need it centered... I went to Styles manager > Stylevars and it's a different solution... I don't want to change the size of the editor or adjust it to the box...
Now that the smilies-box is in the bottom, the space used for it before make my whole editor be aligned a little to the left...

I was clear? [lol]

To change the editor width, you will need to edit Style Manager / (your style) / StyleVars.

To change editor width:
http://vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/stylevar_formwidth (form width)

check the phrase "more" ...
other than that it could be caused by a search/replace via another modification

check the phrase "more" ...

Umm...the phrase more is there, but it has no reference to a link in it:

Varname $vbphrase[more]
Text More

Attatched is a screenshot while I was hovering over the more link, the pop up doesn't show but it's there saying "showing x amount of smilies out of x amount", so that's good. But the link you see below that shows up when you hover the more link. That url that's showing is the same as the url in the browser at that time.

I recently removed all mods and hacks to start fresh so the chances of that being the problem is extremely slim on this particular forum. I never noticed this (since I don't use the more link too often heh) until after upgrading to vB 3.6.7. Not saying that is the cause, but didn't notice having this problem until after the upgrade.

EDIT: This is an issue on my other forum too, also latest version of vB, but heavily modded.

the url should be the same page (the link is an open window javascript) ... this is a default vbulletin feature .. this modification just moves it

<i>I'm assuming the phrase "more" doesn't exist in your site.
</i>
go into ADMINCP / Languages & Phrases / Phrase Manager (click Add New Phrase) /

add the following (leave everything else alone)..

Varname : more
Text: More

How do I extend the text editor in the Private message area out?
I've done all of the fixes recommended at vb.com. Nothing helps this.

All of the other text areas are fine! New thread, New reply, quote, edit - everything is great. See screenie below.

But to compose a PM, reply or forward a PM - it looks like my screenie below.

ACK I found the problem. After applying this mod (and especially after the upgrade to 3.6.8), you have to go into StyleVars and increase the width (pixels) at User Control Panel Message Area Width

I downloaded my copy of vBulletin the night of the 29th, so I think I have the version after the message box fix. So my code looked a little different than the code listed in the search and replace.

The original code
<tr valign="top">
<td class="controlbar" width="100%" style="padding-right:8px"><textarea name="message" id="{$editorid}_textarea" rows="10" cols="60" style="width:100%; height:{$editor_height}px" tabindex="1" dir="$stylevar[textdirection]">$newpost[message]</textarea></td>
<!--width:$stylevar[messagewidth]-->
<if condition="$smiliebox"><td class="controlbar">$smiliebox</td></if>
</tr>

Replaced with
<tr valign="top">

I also had to go vBulletin options in the Admin CP -> Message Posting Interface Options and change the options for number of smilies per row before they would perfectly line up.
<td class="controlbar" width="100%" style="padding-right:8px"><textarea name="message" id="{$editorid}_textarea" rows="10" cols="60" style="width:100%; height:{$editor_height}px" tabindex="1" dir="$stylevar[textdirection]">$newpost[message]</textarea></td>
<!--width:$stylevar[messagewidth]-->
</tr>
<if condition="$smiliebox">
<tr><td class="controlbar" width="100%" style="padding-right:8px">$smiliebox</td></tr>
</if>

I also had to go to the Admin CP under vBulletin Options -> Message Posting Interface Options and update the numbers for smilies displays before they would appear in a row.

I have already adjusted my message posting width to compensate for the empty space left behind after moving the smilies to the bottom. However, the Blog's message posting width, for some reason, isn't affected.

This works great as long as all the smilies are the same size and one row. Using two rows, the smilies will throw the spacing off with the larger smilies.

Great mod. I upgraded from the manual template edit version, but now it appears to be causing other custom code within the editor_smiliebox template to be ignored. I have the following code placed at the end of this template:div class="smallfont" align="center">[<a href="$vboptions[photoplog_script_dir]/index.php$session[sessionurl_q]" onclick="openWindow('$vboptions[photoplog_script_dir]/selector.php?$session[sessionurl]e=$editorid', 585, 215, 'selector'); return false;">$vbphrase[photoplog_images]</a>]</div>If I disable your mod, the above code addition works correctly. It is for the PhotPlog Pro system, and adds a link to initiate the pop-up selection of images for embedding.

Hi Princeton

Is there a way that I can choose which Smilies appear below the editor box? Right now it just displays the number set in VBulletin Options randomly (I suspect).

Also, is there a way to centre the smileys? For instances, I have 2 lines worth, but in the second line it appears like this (* are smilies):

**************
****

Where the four * are, can I centre it better under the first line of smilies?

Last question, why is there an xml product for this mod when it seems to be entirely done by template modifications?

Thanks,

AO
