Hey,

I seen a few people wanting a modification like this, this adds some fields in the Edit Forum Options, and allows you add a forum sponsor.

It's a pritty basic mod'.
I didn't want to spend alot of time on it, it does the functions people wanted. ;)

See the screenshots to get a better understanding. :)

Installation
Import product-sponsor.xml

Done.

Template Edit
Open Forum Display templates > FORUMDISPLAY

Find:
$navbar

Add after:

You have to manually add a sponsor to each forum that is sponsored. So you could have one forum sponsored by "sponsor A" and another forum sponsored by "sponsor B" I hope that answers your question :)

That feature hasn't being made.
You will have to edit the forums manually.

Go to your Admin Panel.

Click Styles and Templates > Style Manager.
On the theme you want to install the mod' in, select Edit Templates from the dropdown list.

Then click, Forum Display templates > FORUMDISPLAY :)

It's on the edit forum page. So just go into your admin cp, click Forums & Moderators, click Forum Manager, then select the forum you want to have a sponsor.

You edit a forum.

Go onto your Admin Panel.
Forums > Forum managager.
(Select forum) Edit forum from dropdown list. :)

There is 2 option pages.
Check both locations.


Admin Panel - Options > Forum Sponsor
Admin Panel - Forums and Moderators > Forum Manager > (The forum) Select "Edit Forum".

Wow this is a great mod.. Tried to install it on my vb 3.5.3 site and got a database error when trying to install the plugin so I just exited out hope it didnt add anything to my database... Any chance on making this work for all the 3.5.x users

Excellent and simple hack, much appreciated. Installed without any problem on 3.6.2

I would however love a small addition or two:

The ability to open the links in a new window
A stats collection to count how many times it was clicked (i know that is a bit more work)
The ability to set more than one image and therefore more than one link or the ability to random select from a few sponsors that you set up in the same way you do now.
A choice of text alignment for the image, title and description e.g. left,right centre


But this in itself is an excellent starting point.

I also agree with the request to be able to pu a sponsor over an individual thread, e.g. Maybe an article was donated and you wish to promote the person who provided the copy. This too would be an awesone addition

No the field does not accept this html in it. In fact anything I tried by means of code in the link field disables that from working. So this is not a solution

Additionally I, like many others have also used the TAG mod/hack. This is great for grouping items into use friendly areas. Unfortunatley your hack doesn't recognise this area as yet, e.g. the results page for a certain tag (see this as an example http://www.physiobob.com/forum/tags/index.php?tag=/sciatica/

It would be awesome if we could add a sponsor in some way to each tag that we create? Perhaps by offering a default one and also by overwriting that with a specific one.

Does anyone else think this would be an excellent addition? I'd make it myself if only I knew how :)

If you want to add the target="_blank" and title="Sponsor name" to the text link and alt="Sponsor name" to the linking image. Modify the template edit you did in the forumdisplay template. This bypasses the fields.

You see the target="_blank" added?

Anytime you see <a href="whatever"> you can add target="_blank" before the closing > to make a link open in a new window. In this case You click the image and it will open a new window with the url you entered for the sponsor's link in the admincp.

No your database was not damaged. It simply tried to create new fields in your database but failed because the field "executionoder" does not exist in vb3.5x.

So basically it stopped and didn't execute the sql query so nothing happened.

If it not there then you didn't import the product would be my guess or you made the edit in the wrong place or not at all. It's a pretty straightforward mod so those are the only 2 possiblilties.

The only problem I had was with a secondary style because it wasn't a selectable style. I just made it selectable and it worked then changed it back.

i also wish it worked on showthread above all threads in that forum. im not sure how much traffic my forum display gets. i think most my users go directly to each thread from vbadvanced "recent thread module" or "new posts" in the nav bar.

If you want to add the target="_blank" and title="Sponsor name" to the text link and alt="Sponsor name" to the linking image. Modify the template edit you did in the forumdisplay template. This bypasses the fields.

It's one ad displayed in one forum. If you would like the same ad in multiple forums, you'll have to edit each forum.

If I remove the if conditional it works great - but the problem is that the table displays on every page then regardless of if a sponsor is selected or not

so there must be some hook / code issue regarding the <if condition="$foruminfo['sponsorenabled'] == 1"> & vb 3.8.x
