If I switch from a regular hosting plan to a Virtual Private Server do I need to change anything with my VB sotware? I paid someone to originally install it, so don't really know much about the back end. Can I just tell my hosting company to switch it over? Currently my board is really slow and I'm hoping this will speed it up.

When I switched to VPS, my host made it really simple. I told them what I wanted, they asked me the username and password for FTP and cPanel for the old server and did all the work themselves. JaguarPC.com is my host, and I absolutely LOVE them for everything they have done for me.
But, if database names or anything has not changed, there is nothing you need to do, it should just work once you got the database and file structure xfered.

Switching to a VPS wont mean a increase in speed, you may even see the site run slower. You should check your current hosting company, and see if they can move your site to a different server of theirs for you. The shared host might be over loading their servers.
However if you feel you really need a VPS for whatever reason, you should try PowerVPS. Moving all your files and database is a breeze, its as simple as backing up the database, then moving it and the files over to your new VPS.
