Lately, a lot of the posts have been telling me I have no permissions to read messages.
Is there a new settings somewhere?

I just got a pm telling me to take a look at
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=128248
And it has been more than once. I have been here since 2001 and am licensed, have been downloading hacks etc...
And I also want to add, that for both vb.com and vb. org, sometimes I receive the PM notification days later after an answer was posted. For example, I still have not received a notification for your reply here.

If the post or thread has been deleted, as in the example, then it will result in a no permission message.
Notification emails can be delayed due to the amount going through the server.

OK, all along, I was blaming the no permissions message on what I believe that I read somewhere about a lot of the hacks having gone to zoints, but this specific message here was just sent to me by PM by someone I don't know, so I could not make sense why I could not read it, unless it is some spammer and you deleted the post.
And I did not even get the new PM notification. It so happened I was visiting.

If you, or anyone else, recieve any more PM's like this, please forward them to myself.

Instant simply means that vbulletin passes it to a mail server straight away, not queues it for the daily/weekly digests. How the mail passes through the internet is beyond it's control. :)

Must be that famous PM I send him with 15 others asking to vote for us in the BOTM poll!
It's maybe wrong for me to ask by pm to look and vote for us, but it's also wrong that we have 150K members here at vb.org and in what, 4 - 5 days only 20 people had seen the poll.
Since one of the coders and I work our asses of to bring our members the best thing they can get, because there is no other forum within our scene like us, we hoped that some coders would see the work that went into it and would appreciated the work we had done by voting for us.
But since I'm not allowed to do this, Im sorry as I already posted an apology in that thread that is now moved away from the public.
It's also sad that so many before you guys, that have posted in that thread made such a big pooha about it all, because where is the community spirit that was ones here at vb.org
I'm one of the oldest members around and I have seen it all here.
I was just so excited to see our forum listed in the BOTM poll, for that I asked for help, is that wrong, probably is, because now everybody is looking at me like I'm evil, i'm a spammer and on top of that my site is disqualified from the poll.
And do you know, I don't even care, it would have been cool to have that icon on my site, but we don't need it, we have already been awarded by the big guys, Microsoft as we couldn't get a better award for what we do with our site.
And please don't tell me that others it this current poll didn't aksed their buddies to vote, because we all know that happend.
So again, I'm sorry I asked by PM.
I hope you all have a great day, I will.

I don't think this has to do with internet. You guys have a problem with your server bottlenecking. The other day I was following a very important thread on vb.com. The developper answered very quickly. I know because I kept on refreshing the page. Notification came one week later?????
Same thing here at .org.
All my other mails arrive instantly, so it is not at my end.

I don't think this has to do with internet. The 'internet' includes any [mail] servers.
I get my e-mails from vb.org pretty quickly normally (within a few minutes) - but just like any system there can be delays. We don't control the mail system, the server is Jelsofts, so I don't know how busy it is, but I would imagine it's sending thousands per day.

OMG! That's why I get the emails telling me that vbulletin will enlarge my epenis and great deals on Jelsoft lube!
It's all even more funny to see that only 30 people voted of the 151,149 members.

What's even funnier is that you should post that when the poll still has over three weeks left to run.
As I'm sure you are also aware, the total number of members is meaningless, as only licensed members can vote, and the 151,000 includes everyone who ever registered, including those who have not visited since 2001.
However, despite your obvious biased sarcasm, it does highlight the point that the BOTM vote is fairly well hidden away and does need promoting a bit more, something we should look at.
Sorry it had a bit of sarcasm, but it made you aware of the problem, which I did see at the first day my site was nominated and with this buddy buddy thing going on here on vb.org I needed to ask people to vote, which isn't strange as I needed to do the work that should have been done by the vb.org team, such as you admit above.
If the sites that have nothing to do with vbulletin in such a poll you're doomed.
I hope you are still going to look into these problems as now only two weeks to go 10 more people voted within the last week ;)
